The membrane fouling is an important problem for FO applied to the radioactive wastewater treatment. The FO fouling characteristics for simulated radioactive wastewater treatment was investigated. On-line cleaning by deionized (DI) water and external cleaning by ultrasound and HCl were applied for the fouled membrane. The effectiveness and foulant removing amount by each-step cleaning were evaluated. The membrane fouling was divided into three stages. Co(II), Sr(II), Cs(I), Na(I) were all found deposited on both active and support layers of the membrane surface, resulting in membrane surface became rougher and more hydrophobic, which increased membrane resistance. On-line cleaning by DI water recovered the water flux to 69%. HCl removed more foulants than ultrasound.

This paper describes a localization method based on Monte Carlo Localization approach for a mobile robot. The method uses range data which are measured from ultrasound transmitting beacons whose locations are given a priori. The ultrasound receiver on-board a robot detects the range from the beacons. The method requires several beacons, theoretically over three. The method proposes a sensor model for the range sensing based on statistical analysis of the sensor output. The experiment uses commercialized beacons and detector which are used for trilateration localization. The performance of the proposed method is verified through real implementation. Especially, it is shown that the performance of the localization degrades as the sensor update rate decreases compared with the MCL algorithm update rate. Though the method requires exact location of the beacons, it doesn't require geometrical map information of the environment. Also, it is applicable to estimation of the location of both the beacons and robot simultaneously.
The complications of deep neck infection have become much less common in the antibiotic era. The vascular complications of deep neck infection can have devasting consequences. Most commonly, the internal carotid artery is involved, although the common carotid and external carotid artery can also be affected.0 the cases of patients with a protracted course, recurrent bleeding, cranial neuropathies, or trismus, the presence of vascular complications must be considered. Appropriate imaging should be carried out to allow the localization of the infection and ascertain the status of the vessels in the neck The vascular structures can be imaged with duplex doppler or color doppler flow ultrasound to see the flow between the mass and vessels. Also angiography plays a key role in the diagnosis and management of vascular complication of deep neck infection. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of these patients is necessary to prevent significant hemmorrhagic complications. We experienced a case of pseudoaneurysm of the common carotid artery secondary to deep neck infection treated successfully with surgical excision in 45-year-old-male.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the accuracy and clinical outcome of ultrasound-guided glenohumeral joint steroid injection on adhesive capsulitis. Materials and Methods: Patients who were diagnosed as adhesive capsulitis by MRI and physical examination and did not improve their symptom with physical therapy and NSAIDS treatment more than 6 months were included in the study. Patients who showed any other shoulder pathology or history if trauma were excluded from the study. 33 patients including 15 males and 18 females were enrolled in the study, the average age being 55.1 (age 42~72). Cocktail of steroid, lidocaine, saline and contrast medium injected inside shoulder glenohumeral joint using novel approach (which we called acromioclavicular approach) under ultrasound guidance. Clinical outcome was measured through passive range of motion and VAS scoring system. Results: Based on radiographic findings, cases were classified according to the leakage of contrast medium; perfect confinement of contrast-medium inside the capsule, partial leakage of the medium and contrast-medium found at outside the joint. Total 25 cases (76%) out of 33 cases showed perfect confinement of contrast-medium inside the glenohumeral joint. Partial leakage was observed in 6 cases (18%), and contrast medium was observed outside of the glenohumeral joint in 2 cases (6%). Perfect-confinement group showed $111^{\circ}$($80{\sim}140^{\circ}$) of forward flexion and $48^{\circ}$($0{\sim}90^{\circ}$) of external rotation before injection, and improved to $134^{\circ}$($90{\sim}150^{\circ}$) of forward flexion and $70^{\circ}$($30{\sim}90^{\circ}$) of external rotation after injection (p<0.01). Partial leakage showed $120^{\circ}$($90{\sim}150^{\circ}$) of forward flexion and $70^{\circ}$($10{\sim}90^{\circ}$) of external rotation before injection, and improved to $139^{\circ}$($135{\sim}140^{\circ}$) of forward flexion and $78^{\circ}$($50{\sim}90^{\circ}$) of external rotation after injection (p<0.01). VAS score improved from 7.1 (score 3~9) to 2.6 (score 0~5) (p<0.01) in perfect confinement group, from 7.5 (score 7~9) to 3.3 (score 2~4) (p<0.01) in partial leakage group. Two group showed no significant difference. Conclusion: Accuracy of Acromioclavicular approach was 94% which is better than any other methods published so far. Partial leakage of the injection material did not show inferior result compared to perfect injection.
Pregnant ICR mice were treated with 137Cs gamma-ray / ultrasound on day 8 of gestation. In combined treatments, pregnant mice were treated with both 1.5 Gy of radiation and $1.0W/cm^2$ ultrasound at time intervals of -1, 0, 1, 3 and 6 hours. The mortalities and external malformations were investigated on day 18 of gestation. The threshold dose of mortality induced by radiation on day 8 of gestation was between 0.5 and 1.0 Gy, and that which was induced by ultrasound was between 1.0 and $1.5W/cm^2$. The mortalities in the late-stage of gestation induced by combined treatment with radiation and ultrasound increased synergistically. The threshold dose of exencephaly and anophthalmia induced by radiation were between 0.5 and 1.0 Gy and between 1.0 and 1.5 Gy, respectively. Those of exencephaly and anophthalmia induced by ultrasound were between 1.0 and $1.5W/cm^2$ and more than $1.5W/cm^2$, respectively. In combined treatments, the incidence of exencephaly and anophthalmia were found to increase synergistically. In the mice treated with both agents at a time interval of one hour, the incidence of exencephaly and anophthalmia reached maximum levels.

Oxygen supply is one of the most basic things in human body. Breathing is controlled by the lungs' stationary function and the respiratory center which is in the mesulla oblongata. Nothing but, the external breathing that air movement between the lungs and atmosphere and the internal breathing that cellular air movement between the hemoglobin and a single cell. The adult's number of times of the respirations is about 15∼20 per 1 minute, but it depends ages, exercise, temperature, disease, etc. The important thing in detecting the respiration is that doing it in object person's resting time. Detecting the respiration have to be done without attracting any attention of object person. In present using method is detecting the pulse with catching an object person's wrist and observing the object person's movement. In this paper, we propose the mobile respiration detection diagnostic system using ultrasound sensing method that does not be influenced by the inertia error and the pressure error.

Purpose : This study aimed to identify the asymmetry observed in the rehabilitative ultrasound imaging of lateral abdominal muscle thickness and performance between the affected and unaffected side during the abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM), an exercise used to facilitate activation of selectively TrA to stabilize the trunk prior to limb movement. Methods : The Participants were twenty one patients with post-stroke hemiplegia in this study. Ultrasound imaging was used to measure amount of changes in thickness of the external oblique (EO), internal oblique (IO), transversus abdominis (TrA). A Paired t-test was used to compare relaxed muscle thickness to contracted muscle thickness of all 3 muscles between the affected and unaffected sides. Results : The outcome measures included side to side differences of absolute thickness, contraction ratio among the lateral abdominal muscles. There was no significantly difference in between the affected and unaffected side at rest. But, there was a significantly difference in absolute muscle thickness between the affected and unaffected side of only TrA muscle. Also contraction ratio was a significantly difference between the affected and unaffected TrA muscle. Conclusion : These findings support the asymmetrical activation of TrA muscle during abdominal muscle contraction in patients with post-stroke hemiplegia. Further studies are warranted for confirming this outcome.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the change in thickness of transvers abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique when virtual reality based ring fit adventure is applied to young adults in order to investigate the effect of ring fit adventure on core stabilization. Methods : 30 subjects participated in the experiment. Subjects were randomly assigned to two groups. 15 subjects performed ring fit adventure core exercise (experimental group) and 15 subjects bridge and dead bug exercise (control group). The ring fit adventure core exercise program consists of 6 types, 1) bow pull, 2) overhead lunge twist, 3) pendulum bend, 4) seated ring raise, 5) plank, 6) warrior III pose. Each exercise was performed for 5 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes. The bridege and dead bug exercise were performed for 15 minutes each for a total of 30 minutes. All interventions were performed 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Thickness of the abdominal muscles was measured with a ultrasound. The paired t-test was used to compare the thickness of the transverse abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique before and after intervention, and the comparison between groups was analyzed using the independent t-test. Results : As a result, in the experimental group, thickness of transverse abdominis and internal oblique increased significantly (p<.05), but external oblique decreased significantly (p<.05), and in the control group, thickness of transverse abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique increased significantly (p<.05). There was a significant difference in external oblique in the difference between groups (p<.05). Conclusion : These study results showed that core exercise using ring fit adventure can reduce external oblique and increased selective muscle activity of transverse abdominis and internal oblique of the deep abdominal muscles, so it is meaningful as an effective intervention for core stabilization.

Recently, researches that a variety of contaminants in water are removed by sonolysis technology with oxidation and pyrolysis process from cavitation were conducted. However, there are few studies for sonochemical treatment by a pilot-scale ultrasound system. This research focused on developing pilot-scale ultrasound systems, which could be an continuously effective treatment for a large volumes of contaminants, and demonstrating the feasibility of utilizing these systems to remove naphthalene from groundwater. V-120 type reactor was found to be 1.4~2.2 times higher effective than the normal type. A total of three different pilot scale's systems consisted of installing effluent and irrigation water in order to be a continuos system, including supplemental additives, and applying a V-120 type reactor and a external cooling cycle system. Naphthalene levels treated by three systems were lower than a recommended guideline of naphthalene for drinking water in EPA. Especially, the naphthalene removal efficiencies of PS1 and PS2 systems were over 97%. The pilot-scale continuous ultrasound clean-up system delivered over 84~95% naphthalene removal efficiency for treatment of 10~20 liter of groundwater. In addition, the ultrasound system could be successfully applied to the conditions of artificial and genuine groundwater contaminated with naphthalene.
Purpose: This study set out to investigate the effects of prone hip extension with knee flexion (PHEKF) exercises according to external load on the thickness of the gluteus maximus (Gmax) and biceps femoris (BF). Methods: Twenty-three healthy men participated in this study. All subjects randomly practiced PHEKF under the burden of external loads created by sandbags (0 kg, 1 kg, and 2 kg). Rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) was used to measure the thickness of the Gmax and BF during the PHEKF with different external loads. Results: The thickness of the Gmax was highest during the 2 kg resistance exercise and lowest at 0 kg. The thickness of the Gmax was significantly increased at 1 kg and 2 kg compared to 0 kg and significantly increased at from 1 kg to 2 kg (p < 0.05). The thickness of the biceps femoris was highest at 0 kg and lowest at 2 kg. The thickness of the biceps femoris muscle was significantly reduced at 1 kg and 2 kg compared to 0 kg (p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between 1 kg and 2 kg (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The thickness of the Gmax was increased by applying PHEKF with a higher external load, whereas the muscle thickness of the biceps femoris decreased. These results suggest that the application of external loads during PHEKF exercises may be an effective method for selective strengthening of the Gmax.
