  • The construction of the road NATM tunnel, which undergoes the weathered zone of the mountain, was in process with the reinforcement methods such as the rock bolt, shotcrete depositing, and the multi step grout with large diameter steel pipe. The collapse from the ceiling, and on the ground surface area(sink hole), of which were measured to be 25m from the ground surface($V=12m(W){\times}14m(L){\times}5m(H)=840m^3$), as well as excessive displacements in the tunnel, had occurred. In order to execute the necessary reconstruction work, the causes of the surface collapses were inspected through the field investigation, in-situ tests, and numerical analysis. As a result, several proper solutions were suggested for both internal and external reinforcements for the tunnel. As a result of numerical analysis, the collapsed zone of the tunnel was reinforced up to 0.5D~1.0D laterally by the cement grouting on the ground surface, 0.5D longitudinally by the multi step grout with large diameter steel pipe in tunnel. With further reinforcement implemented by rebars in lining, the forward horizontal boring was executed to the rest of the tunnel to evaluate the overall status of the tunnel face. Appropriate reinforcement methods were provided if needed.

  • As a typical construction material, concrete has been used in building all kinds of structures since the late $19^{th}$ century. Although it was recognized to secure durability as long as the regulations on design and construction have been reasonably complied, the trends of life-shortening and deterioration have frequently occurred due to all kinds of the external effects that have been experienced during the procedures of using the structures. To make matters even worse, deterioration of the concrete structures according to deterioration can not be controlled any more. Finally, the reality is that repair and maintenance are necessary in the maintenance aspect of the concrete structure. In this study, CRM(Chemical Resistance of Laminating Reinforcement Method), which had been developed to reinforce the surface of concrete and specially improve chemical resistance performance, has been applied to enhance the existing repairing and maintenance method. Therefore, the result has been drawn with comparison and analysis of the specimens applied with the general repairing and maintenance method and CRM through a variety of durability test in this study. With the result of the test, durability of the specimen applied with CRM has been more improved than the existing repairing and maintenance method, which is judged as because of the laminating effect due to reinforcement of epoxy impregnated of alkali-resistance fiber and double layered fiber reinforced seat.

  • The purpose of this study is to secure the same or more structural performance and constructability for the details of hooks cross-constructed at 135 degrees used as external-ties standard detail in RC columns, therefore, to the purpose of improving constructability, the clip-type binding implement was suggested and A total of 28 pull-out specimens were prepared with the parameters of concrete compressive strength and clip-embeded length, clip installation location to examine the anchorage behavior of the clip-type binding implement. The experiment was carried out. The results of the experiment confirmed that the anchorage strength of the clip-type binding implement was higher than the details of hooks cross-constructed at 135-degree regardless of the diameter of tie and concrete strength, embeded clip length, clip installation. and The 90-degree end hook with clip-type binding implement was showed a similar an anchorage behavior of 135-degree end-hooked transverse reinforcement, consequently, The 90-degree end hooked with clip-type binding implement is evaluated to be the same anchorage behavior and performance as standard 135-degree end hook detail.

  • In this study, we evaluated the seismic performance of a masonry building that was not designed to be earthquake-resistant and attempted to improve the seismic performance by adopting a seismic reinforcement method on the exterior of the building. In addition, the building seismic design standards and commentary(KDS 41 17 00:2019) and existing facility(building) seismic performance evaluation methods were applied to evaluate seismic performance, and a pushover analysis was performed using non-linear static analysis. As the result of this study, it was determined that seismic reinforcement was urgent because the distribution rate of earthquake-resistant design of houses in Korea was low and masonry structures accounted for a large proportion of houses. When reinforcing the steel beam-column+brace frame in a masonry building, the story drift angle was 0.043% in the X direction and 0.047% in the Y direction, indicating that it satisfied the regulations. The gravity load resistance capacity by performance level was judged to be a safe building because it was habitable in both X and Y directions. In conclusion, it is believed that the livability and convenience of the house can be secured by reinforcing the exterior of the building and the seismic performance and behavior of the structure can be clearly predicted.

  • In summer, as chillers are considered the main energy consumer of building, the efficient chiller operation is considered important. However, it is difficult to operate chillers to meet the cooling demand of the building as the demand fluctuates with various factors like the internal, external environment and behavior of the occupants and as chiller's constraint cause the current operation constrains operation in future. To address these problems, this study proposes a multi-chiller operation model based on deep reinforcement learning considering the minimum up-time of the chiller. The proposed model learns the value of the chiller operations according to the state composed of metrological and cooling system information and determines operation that minimizes the difference between the supply load and the cooling demand among feasible operations. The practical applicability was improved by applying the training algorithm considering the minimum up-time constraint and Experiments results using the actual data from a Korean university confirmed that the proposed model complies with the chiller constraints and outperforms the existing chiller operation logic of the university in terms of differences from the building cooling demand.

  • CFRP composites are used as primary structural members in various industrial fields because their specific strength and specific stiffness are excellent in comparison to conventional metals. Their usage is expanding to high added-value industrial fields because they are more than 50% lighter than metals, and have excellent heat resistance and wear resistance. However, when CFRP composites suffer impact damage, destruction of fiber and interface delamination occur. This causes an unexpected deterioration of strength, and for this reason it is very difficult to ensure the reliability of the excellent mechanical properties. Therefore, for the destruction mechanism in bending with impact damage, this study investigated the reinforcement data regarding various external loads by identifying the consequential strength deterioration. Specimens were damaged by impact with a steel ball propelled by air pressure. Decrease in bending strength caused by the tension and compression of the impact side, and depending on the lamination direction of fiber and interface inside the specimen. From the bending test it was found that the bending strength reduced when the impact energy increased. Especially in the case of compression on the impact side, as tensile stress occurred at the damage starting point, causing rapid failure and a substantially reduced failure strength.

  • An anisotropic characteristics of stratified sedimentary rocks should be considered in the design of tunnel. The second line of Taegu subway is under construction through the sedimentary rocks which is stratified by alternation of shale and sandstone, and Tongsoe over bridge road is planned to be constructed along the subway line. Thus the subway twin tunnels will be subjected by the bridge load of 76.2 MN per pier that will be placed in between the twin tunnels of the subway line. A numerical analysis is carried out for the stability of the twin tunnel, and the result shows that the maximum principal stress of surrounding ground is increased by 5∼6 MPa and the additional displacement of concrete lining is reached up to 8∼10mm due to the external bridge load. For the safety operation of the subway, reinforcement of the tunnel structure is highly recommended.

  • The proposed techniques to repair concrete members such as steel plates, fiber-reinforced polymers or concrete have important deficiencies in adherence and durability. The use of ultra high performance fiber concrete (UHPFC) can overtake effectively these problems. In this paper, the possibility of using UHPFC to strengthen reinforced concrete beams under torsion is investigated. Seven specimens of concrete beams reinforced with longitudinal and transverse reinforcements. One of these beams consider as control specimen while the others was strengthened by UHPFC on four, three, and two sides. This study includes experimental results of all beams with different types of configurations and thickness of UHPFC. As well as, finite element analysis was conducted in tandem with experimental test. Results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed technique at cracking and ultimate torque for different beam strengthening configurations, torque - twist graphs and crack patterns. The UHPFC can generally be used as an effective external torsional reinforcement for RC beams. It was noted that the behavior of the beams strengthen with UHPFC are better than the control beams. This increase was proportional to the retrofitted beam sides. The use of UHPFC had effect in delaying the growth of crack formation. The finite element analysis is reasonably agreement with the experimental data.

  • The ground anchor used in domestic area, which resists by adhesion between anchor body and the ground to the external force, seems not to be adequate for soft ground and urban area where the boundary between structures is close because the ground is disturbed and lost its strength during boring. In order to overcome such a shortcoming an expanded anchor system has been developed. The ground expansion is accomplished by means of Pulse Discharge Technology. In this technology, a high voltage of electricity is stored and discharged in milliseconds which induces high pressure acting on the ground. By making a couple of bulbs, a passive resistance as well as shaft resistance are mobilized, and therefore a higher pullout resistance comparing existing ground anchors is developed. In this study, a couple of full scale tests were conducted in order to figure out how much the resistance of an expanded anchor increases comparing to the straight. As a result, it was found that a remarkable increase in ultimate pullout capacity is observed for the soft ground and as the number of bulb increases. In addtion, as a result of applying to a cut slope reinforcement, it appeared that the length of fixed zone of anchor can be reduced effectively.
