  • An impedance control approach based on an extended task space formulation is addressed to control the kinematically redundant manipulators. Defining a weighted inner product in joint space, a minimal parametrization of the null space can be achieved and we can visualize the null space motion explicitly. Based on this formulation, we propose a control method called inertially decoupled impedance controller to control the motion of the end-effector as well as the internal motion expanding the conventional impedance control. Some numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control method.

  • Design method of a robust impedance control is proposed for the kinematically redundant manipulators. To achieve this objective, we first use the momentum feedback disturbance observer(MFDOB) scheme which can handle the nonlinear dynamics of a manipulator in Joint space. An extended task space formulation to describe the behaviors of task and null spaces of redundant manipulator is employed. Using the extended task space formulation and disturbance observer scheme, a robust impedance control method is designed. The performance of the proposed extended impedance controller is verified through experiments with a planar three links direct-drive manipulator.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate the concentration distribution in flow field inside the pipeline based on electrical impedance tomography. Special emphasis is given to the development of dynamic imaging technique for two-phase field undergoing a rapid transient change. Nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter is employed to cope with unexpected measurement uncertainty. The nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter compensates for the influence of measurement uncertainty and solves the instability of extended Kalman filter. Extensive computer simulations are carried out to show that nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter has enhanced estimation performance especially in the unexpected measurement environment.

  • The problem of compliant motion control using a redundant manipulator is addressed in this article. Specifically, a hybrid-control type and impedance-control type controllers are extended to general redundant manipulators based on the kinematically decomposed and geometrically compatible modeling of its joint space. In the case of the hybrid controller, it leads to the linear and decoupled closed-loop dynamics in the three motion spaces, that is the motion-controlled, force-controlled, and the null motion-controlled spaces of the redundant manipulator. When the proposed impedance controller is applied, the decoupled impedance models in three motion spaces are obtained. The superiority of the proposed controllers is verified with the numerical experiments.

  • Impedance tomography (EIT) is a relatively new imaging modality in which the internal impedivity distribution is reconstructed based on the known sets of injected currents through the electrodes and induced voltages on the surface of the object. We describe a dynamic EIT imaging technique for the case where the resistivity distribution inside the object changes rapidly within the time taken to acquire a full set of independent measurement data, In doing so, the inverse problem is treated as the nonlinear state estimation problem and the unknown state (resistivity) is estimated with the aid of extended Kalman filter in a minimum mean square error sense. In particular, additional electrodes are attached to the known internal structure of the object ...

  • Electrical impedance tomography(EIT) is a relatively new imaging modality in which the internal impedivity distribution is reconstructed based on the known sets of injected currents and measured voltages on the surface of the object. In this paper, an effective dynamic EIT imaging scheme is presented based on the projection filtering to estimate the unknown resistivity distribution. In particular, pre-integration (pre-grouping) technique is employed to stabilize the inverse algorithm. We carried out computer simulations with synthetic data to illustrate the reconstruction performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • A lighting control switch, extended to incorporate a power line communication technology, is developed. The system uses not an exclusive microprocessor but a general one, and developed PPM protocol. The coupling circuit is a type of an isolation LC filter, and the impedance of the circuit was designed as low as possible to extend signal transmission distance. The frequency of the carrier, considering the data length and signal attenuation as the length of power lines, was set at 250 kHz. Tests on a prototype in an indoor power lines have shown that the switch has a stable operation with the distance of power lines

  • The present paper is devoted to vibration canceling and shape control of piezoelastic slender beams. Taking into account the presence of electric networks, an extended electromechanically coupled Bernoulli-Euler beam theory for passive piezoelectric composite structures is shortly introduced in the first part of our contribution. The second part of the paper deals with the concept of passive shape control of beams using shaped piezoelectric layers and tuned inductive networks. It is shown that an impedance matching and a shaping condition must be fulfilled in order to perfectly cancel vibrations due to an arbitrary harmonic load for a specific frequency. As a main result of the present paper, the correctness of the theory of passive shape control is demonstrated for a harmonically excited piezoelelastic cantilever by a finite element calculation based on one-dimensional Bernoulli-Euler beam elements, as well as by the commercial finite element code of ANSYS using three-dimensional solid elements. Finally, an outlook for the practical importance of the passive shape control concept is given: It is shown that harmonic vibrations of a beam with properly shaped layers according to the presented passive shape control theory, which are attached to an resistor-inductive circuit (RL-circuit), can be significantly reduced over a large frequency range compared to a beam with uniformly distributed piezoelectric layers.

  • Flexibility in the power control of ultrasonic transducers has remained a challenge for cleaning applications. This paper introduces a modification of the existing piezoelectric ceramic transducer (PCT) circuit to increase the range of operation through its impedance characteristics. The output power is controlled using the asymmetrical voltage-cancellation (AVC) method. Together with a phase-locked loop control, the switching frequency of the inverter is automatically adjusted to maintain a lagging phase angle under load-parameter variations during the cleaning process. With the proposed modification, the region of the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation is extended, which results in a wider range of output power control. A hardware prototype is constructed and the control algorithm is implemented using an STM32F4 microcontroller. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposed method for a 50-W PCT. The operating frequency and output power ranges under study are 37 - 41 kHz and 15.8 - 50 W, respectively.

  • On the basis of the traditional ZSI (Z-source inverter), this paper presents a ESL-${\Gamma}$-ZSI, which uses a unique ${\Gamma}$-shaped impedance network and an extended SL network for boosting its output voltage in addition to their usual voltage-buck behavior. The inverter can increase the boost factor through adjusting shoot-through duty ratio and increasing the number of inductors. Capacitor voltage stress of ESL-${\Gamma}$-ZSI is a constant when 1>D>0, and ESL-${\Gamma}$-ZSI has small inductor current stress. The working principle of ESL-${\Gamma}$-ZSI and comparison with the classical ZSI and SL- ZSI are analyzed in detail. The power loss comparison between ESL-${\Gamma}$-ZSI and Cuk converter is analyzed detailedly. Simulation and experimental results are given to demonstrate the operation features of the inverter.
