  • Meanwhile, the meaning has been emphasized in mathematics. But the meaning of meaning had not been clearly defined and the meaning classification had not been reported. In this respect, the meaning was classified as expressive and cognitive. Furthermore, it was reclassified as mathematical situation and real situation. Based on this classification, we investigated how student recognizes the meaning when solving mathematical modeling problem. As a result, we found that the understanding of cognitive meaning in real situation is more difficult than that of the other meaning. And we knew that understanding the meaning in solving of equation, has more difficulty than in expression of equation. Thus, to help students understanding the meaning in the whole process of mathematical modeling, we have to connect real situation with mathematical situation. And this teaching method through unit and measurement, will be an alternative method for connecting real situation and mathematical situation.

  • This paper concerns different forms of poetic thinking, each of which attempts to investigating truth of being on the ground of its idiosyncratic feature. The horizon evoked via these practices, however, is the Absolute where any plausibility of communication be fundamentally blocked off. Poetry, for instance, relinquishes its semantic auto-referentiality in order to be expressive of something unsayable. Poetic diction, coming-into-being, and sound with no meaning are those three expressive modes that I will examine in terms of the so-called "poetic thinking."

Particularly in fashion photograph, light and shadows are often used as tools to convey meaning. Accordingly, this study aims to classify the utilization of the shadow created by light and deriving its expressive characteristics in fashion photograph. To achieve these research aims, literature and case studies were conducted. The results are as follows. First, the shadows were mainly focused on a subject. Secondly, shadows caused by lighting is casted directly into the inside of the main subject in a frame takes a role of omission or emphasis. Third, shadows caused by a second unseen object outside the frame are utilized with the main subject in the frame. Based on these results above, spatial third dimensionality, optical illusion and accentuation were derived as expressive characteristics of the shadow in fashion photograph. As such, in fashion photograph, shadow is an important element for photographers. The variability of the shadow makes it possible for creative changes as its amount, angle and direction can be altered by adjusting the light in accordance with the intention of the artist. Therefore, its utilization methods will be diversified hereafter. Accordingly, it is required to recognize that shadow may be recreated as an independent object in fashion photograph.
