  • Kangwon Province has grown regional economy under the circumstances of poor resources compared with others and Kangwon Province is in a position to stress trade to continue economic development in future.   • In all countries of the world, the development of trade is an important factor for the survival of the national economy. Increased export will lead to national economic growth. Export is directly linked to employment, and the industrial structure will be developed in the direction to produce products of comparative advantages. Therefore, every country around the world is trying to promote export regardless of the size of its economy. Accordingly, this paper focused on the promotion of export of domestic companies. It proposed to cultivate trade experts to promote export of domestic companies. The following five methods were proposed to materialize the proposal. First, it is important to foster trade experts to expand and foster the one-person creative companies. In particular, it is important to develop a professional education curriculum. It is necessary to design and conduct a systematic curriculum throughout the process including follow-up after education such as teaching detailed procedures for establishing a trade business, identification of relevant regulations and related organizations, understanding of special features of each exporting country, and details of exporting procedures through specialist training for the individual industries, helping themto keep their network steady so that they can easily get help from consultants. Second, it is necessary to educate traders working in the field to make them trade experts and utilize themin on-the-job training and consulting. To do this, it is necessary to introduce systematic consultant selection process, and to introduce a systemto educate and manage them. It is because, we must select the most appropriate candidates, educate themto be lecturers and consultants, and dispatch themto the field, in order to make the best achievement in export. Nurturing trading professionals utilizing the current trading workers to activate export of domestic companies can be more efficient through cooperation of trading education agencies and related agencies in various industries. Third, it is also proposed to cultivate female trade experts by educating female trade workers whose career has been disrupted. It is to provide career disrupted women with opportunities to work after training them as trade professionals and to give manpower pool to domestic companies that are preparing for export. Fourth, it is also proposed to educate foreign students living in Korea to be trading experts and to utilize them as trading infra. They can be trading professionals who will contribute to the promotion of export. In the short term, they will be provided with opportunities for employment and start-upin the field of trade, and in the mid- to long-term, they may develop a business network between Korea and their own countries. To this end, we need to improve the visa system, expand free trade education opportunities, and support them so that they can establish small but strong enterprises. Fifth, it is proposed to proactively expand trade education to specialized high school students. Considering that most of domestic companies pursuing activation of export are small but strong companies or small and mediumsized companies, they may prefer high school graduates rather than university graduates because of financial limitations. Besides, the specialized high school students may occupy better position in the job market if they are equipped with expertise in trading. This study can be meaningful, in that it is the first research that focuses on cultivating trading experts to contribute to the export activation of domestic companies. However, it also has a limitation that it has failed to reflect the more specific field voices. It is hoped that detailed plans will be derived from the opinions of the employees of domestic companies making efforts to become an export company in the related researches in the future.

  • Korea achieved its highest ever defense export performance in 2022. Defense exports are the most effective way to promote the defense industry by exporting Korea's weapons to foreign countries. In addition, to continuously supply excellent weapon systems, a solid defense industry must be established. So defense industry exports are an important issue at the national level, the Korea government is actively supporting policies for the Presidential office as a control tower. In particular, the topic of entry into the defense industry export big4 is being raised in Korea. As an innovative defense export promotion plan, this paper presents a strategic plan of joint research and development that export customized to the needs of purchasing countries and securing cutting-edge technology that can possess world-class weapon systems. In other words, in order to secure cutting-edge technology, the military must break away from existing methods and boldly select cutting-edge technology, provide sufficient budget support, and grant autonomy to development agencies. A rapid acquisition system must also be introduced so that this technology can be applied to advanced weapons in a timely manner. Export joint research and development is intended to promote flexible technology transfer excluding ultra-sensitive core technologies and to form strategic partnerships, taking into account the purchasing country's willingness to possess cutting-edge technology. Through this, we have helped Korea's defense industry exports enter the world's big4 through groundbreaking new strategy.

A Study on the Promotion of Online Commerce in Exporting SMEs (수출 중소기업의 온라인상거래 활성화를 위한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the necessary factors by conducting a questionnaire survey for SMEs with experience in participating in the online export support business in order to derive the factors that activate SMEs' online marketing. As a result, it was found that the Corporate trade capacity had a positive influence on online marketing utilization, and that the Corporate internal capacity did not have a significant influence on online marketing utilization. Since the consultants' role for export marketing obviously appears to exercise more significant positive effect on online marketing utilization, we can suggest the followings to activate online exports of SMEs. First, more effective efforts are needed to expand the trading capacity to utilize online marketing, and secondly, the export marketing capacity of SMEs needs to be strengthened steadily. In particular, strengthening the capabilities of the trading consultants of participating and performing companies is considered to be an important factor in the use of online marketing by SMEs, we recommend further strengthening each corporate and government policy effort to empower export consultants.

A Study on the Promotion of Korean Paprika Export to Vietnam (한국산 파프리카의 베트남 수출 활성화 방안에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a strategy to activate the export of Korean paprika to Vietnam. For this, we survey 202 adults in Vietnam, and analyzed the paprika purchase and consumption behavior, preferences, considerations, and willingness to pay. Most of respondents had purchased paprika, and offline grocery stores are the major purchasing location of paprika. The price elasticity of Korean paprika is greater than 1, showing more elasticity than other origins, and it is advantageous to implement the price reduction strategy. The number of household members and the level of education affect purchasing intentions. In conclusion, product composition targeting small households, pricing strategy, and K-Food marketing are appropriate.

  • Trade Portal Site(TPS) is one of the innovative skills which makes it possible for small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) to manage international trade activities more efficiently by using the newest information and telecommunication technology. Based on performance and an existing research related to using information technology, this research analyzed the user's degree of utilization of TPSs which moderates effects between SMEs characteristics and export performance of SMEs. According to the results of the empirical study on actual data of 194 sample firms by using moderated regression analysis, there are significant only organizational characteristics among determinants(such as organizational characteristics, export characteristics) as the degree of utilization of TPSs. These research results provide many useful insights to the CEOs of SMEs using the services of TPSs, e-Trade system developers, and government policy makers. First, CEOs and managers of SMEs should have thorough understanding of the importance of the new information technology and e-Trade and positively adopt new e-Trade solutions and systems to their export processes to enhance global competitiveness. Second, TPS managers and e-Trade systems developers must concentrate on improving the user's degree of utilization of TPSs. Finally, the government agency should develop the various e-Trade promotion policies to support the efforts of SMEs organizational characteristics and TPS to increase the degree of utilization of TPS, which have positive effects on the export performance of SMEs.

A Study on the Performance of Design Services in the Export Voucher (수출지원기반활용사업에서 디자인 서비스의 성과에 관한 연구)

  • This study is a study on the performance of design services among export voucher projects. In particular, we have identified the actual state of use of design services from the perspective of participating companies and the corresponding problems. The purpose of the study is to provide basic data for the preparation of successful support plans in the field of design services. This study designed a quantitative survey to measure accurate performance of design services using archive records, and the survey was sent three times in total to 135 participating companies. A significant achievement of design services the study found is that the role of design were important in the export of the nation's main industries such as medical/biological/healthcare and electrical/electronic products. In addition, we could see that all participating companies were using design services regardless of the difference in sales. In particular, 96% of participating companies answered that the design service effect was the most effective service. As a result, it proved the importance of design services in export voucher projects, and suggested the importance of introducing a management system as a direction for the development of design services in future export voucher projects. He majored in advertising design at Hongik University's Graduate School of Industrial Art and at the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. It carries out the government's design policy such as design research, design education, and corporate design support. He is currently working as an Invited Designer by Korea Design Exhibition.

A Study on Detection of Small Export Companies Utilizing Trade Exports Live Index (무역수출 라이브지수를 활용한 중소수출기업 발굴 연구)

  • There have been many discussions on export indices in trade exports, but there is no definite trade export index which can be explained by objective indicators. Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), etc., but we are currently in the process of thinking about ways to express the capabilities of exporting companies. In this study, we constructed the AI data sets by setting the activity indicators such as the size of the company and the credit score, the number of transaction customers, the number of transactions, the number of items, the transaction volume, and the transaction period as features, Lightgbm. Using the Graph Neural Network as an industrial cluster classification model, the export live index which expresses the exportable capacity among companies, items, and business groups was calculated. This includes the past activity of the company from the current calculating index Objectivity.

  • We have more risks in international trade market than in the domestic business market because economic activities are going on with business transactions in different countries. K-sure's Refund Guarantee System is the most important system for Korean Small and Middle Shipbuilding Industries' business, but Korean exporters of Shipbuilding Industries are more interested in export financing through K-sure rather than its financial supporting services. The export insurance becomes more important service for international trade business and it its count as the only one indirect way of supporting export business because export insurance is accepted internationally under the WTO system. Also, it is the only measure that can cover emergency risk, credit risk, exchange risk which cannot be covered by private insurance. As the major risk manager for Korean exporters, the K-sure needs to provide an integrated risk management service for customers. Korean exporters can take more challenges in ever competitive international trade market and we can witness promotion of export in the future which is essential to Korea's economic growth.

Safeguarding Korean Export Trade through Social Media-Driven Risk Identification and Characterization

  • Purpose - Korean exports account for a vast proportion of Korean GDP, and large volumes of Korean products are sold in the United States. Identifying and characterizing actual and potential product hazards related to Korean products is critical to safeguard Korean export trade, as severe quality issues can impair Korea's reputation and reduce global consumer confidence in Korean products. In this study, we develop country-of-origin-based product risk analysis methods for social media with a specific focus on Korean-labeled products, for the purpose of safeguarding Korean export trade. Design/methodology - We employed two social media datasets containing consumer-generated product reviews. Sentiment analysis is a popular text mining technique used to quantify the type and amount of emotion that is expressed in the text. It is a useful tool for gathering customer opinions regarding products. Findings - We document and discuss the specific potential risks found in Korean-labeled products and explain their implications for safeguarding Korean export trade. Finally, we analyze the false positive matches that arise from the established dictionaries that were used for risk discovery and utilize these classification errors to suggest opportunities for the future refinement of the associated automated text analytic methods. Originality/value - Various studies have used online feedback from social media to analyze product defects. However, none of them links their findings to trade promotion and the protection of a specific country's exports. Therefore, it is important to fill this research gap, which could help to safeguard export trade in Korea.
