  • Although structural concrete is well known for its good economic efficiency, it has limits of structural performance due to the low tensile strength, for which new structural members utilizing various concrete composite materials have been developed. Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete(SFRC) has great tensile strength, which is the one of the excellent composite material to complement the weakness of concrete, and it is also considered as a good alternative to prevent the explosive failure of high strength concrete under fire. Also, prestressed concrete members are of great advantages to long span structures and have greater shear strength compared to conventional reinforced concrete members. In this research, thus, a total of 22 direct shear test specimens were fabricated and tested to understand the shear behavior of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Prestressed Concrete(SFR-PSC) members, in which SFRC members combined with prestressing method. Based on the test results, the constitutive equations of shear behavior at crack interfaces were proposed, which provided good estimation on the shear behavior of the SFR-PSC direct shear test specimens.

  • In this paper, by using steel fiber, polypropylene fiber and these two hybrid fibers, the fire resistance performance and explosive properties of High Strength Concrete (HSC) with specified compressive strength of 40MPa are discussed. The paper also examines the bending resistance of the beam and the shearing resistance properties of non-reinforced HSC beam. This research helps to clarify the fire resistance of fiber HSC and its anti-explosion methods. The test results show that crack generation, explosion and carbonization can be effectively restrained when HSC is mixed with hybrid fibers under high temperature; furthermore, the maximum internal force and ductility are increased and the initial cracking can be restrained in the mechanical test.

  • The Arena Fragmentation Test(AFT) is one of the important tasks for designing a high-explosive warhead. In order to measure the statistics of a warhead in the test, fragments of a warhead that penetrate steel plates are detected by using complex and expensive measuring equipment. In this paper, instead of using specific hardware to measure the statistics of a warhead, we propose to use an image processing based object detection algorithm to detect fragments in AFT. To this end, we use a hard-thresholding method with a brightness feature and apply a morphology filter to remove noise components. We also propose a simple yet effective temporal filtering method to detect only the first penetrating fragments. We show that the performance of the proposed method is comparable to that of a hardware system under the same experimental conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method can produce better results in terms of finding exact positions of fragments.

  • To improve fire-resistance of a high strength concrete against spalling under elevated temperature, fibers can be mixed to provide flow paths of evaporated water to the surface of concrete when heated. In this study, the experiment of a column under fire and mechanical loads is conducted and the material model for predicting temperature of reinforcement steel bar and mechanical behavior of fiber-mixed high strength concrete is suggested. The material model in previous studies is modified by incorporating physical behavior of internal concrete and thermal characteristics of concrete at the elevated temperature. Thermo-mechanical analysis of the fiber-mixed high strength concrete column is conducted using the calibrated material model. The performance of the proposed material model is confirmed by comparing thermo-mechanical analysis results with the experiment of a column under fire and mechanical loads.

  • Passive autocatalytic recombiner (PAR) is considered as an explosive gas control system in operating NPP plants. This work investigates and evaluates hydrogen recombination performance over manufactured $Pt/TiO_2$ catalysts. When the space velocity increases, the hydrogen conversion decreased, while hydrogen depletion rate (g/sec) increases highly in $35000{\sim}100000hr^{-1}$ Gas Hourly Space Velocity (GHSV). Hydrogen conversion and depletion rate with Pt loading is investigated. As a result, there were no differences in the hydrogen conversion, but exothermic heating rate (K/sec) is increases as Pt loading increases. The catalyst showes a high hydrogen conversion efficiency of 80% under atmospheric conditions.

  • Mineral wool is an insulation material commonly used in passive fire protection (PFP) systems on offshore installations. Insulation materials have only been considered functional materials for thermal analysis in the conventional offshore PFP system design method. Hence, the structural performance of insulation has yet to be considered in the design of PFP systems. However, the structural elements of offshore PFP systems are often designed with excessive dimensions to satisfy structural requirements under external loads such as wind, fire and explosive pressure. To verify the structural contribution of insulation material, it was considered a structural material in this study. A series of material tensile tests was undertaken with two types of mineral wool at room temperature and at elevated temperatures for fire conditions. The mechanical properties were then verified with modified methods, and a database was constructed for application in a series of nonlinear structural and thermal finite-element analyses of an offshore bulkhead-type PFP system. Numerical analyses were performed with a conventional model without insulation and with a new suggested model with insulation. These analyses showed the structural contribution of the insulation in the structural behaviour of the PFP panel. The results suggest the need to consider the structural strength of the insulation material in PFP systems during the structural design step for offshore installations.

  • Hydrogen gas (H2) which is odorless, colorless is attracting attention as a renewable energy source in varions applications but its leakage can lead to disastrous disasters, such as inflammable, explosive, and narcotic disasters at high concentrations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop H2 gas sensor with high performance. In this paper, we confirmed that H2 gas detection ability of SnO2 based H2 gas sensor along with thermal treatment effect of SnO2. Proposed SnO2 based H2 gas sensor is fabricated by MEMS technologies such as photolithgraphy, sputtering and lift-off process, etc. Deposited SnO2 thin films are thermally treated in various thermal treatement temperature in range of 500-900 ℃ and their H2 gas detection ability is estimatied by measuring output current of H2 gas sensor. Based on experimental results, fabricated H2 gas sensor with SnO2 thin film which is thermally treated at 700 ℃ has a superior H2 gas detection ability, and it can be expected to utilize at the practical applications.

  • A pretensioner is a safety device that protects occupants by pulling the seat belt in the event of a vehicle collision. However, since the pretensioner is driven by a explosive method, it is necessary to replace not only the gas generator but also all connecting parts including the manifold after an accident. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an elastic force-based pretensioner that can be used safely and semi-permanently. After analyzing the operating mechanism of the existing pretensioner from a thermodynamic/dynamic point of view, the spring stiffness that can be deployed within an appropriate operating time was determined by converting the gas explosion energy into elastic energy. In addition, the coil spring shape that satisfies the elastic stiffness was designed in consideration of the vehicle interior installation standard. Finally, the operating performance of the pretensioner driven by elastic force was verified through fabrication.

  • Concrete has advantages in fire situations as it is non-combustible and has low thermal conductivity. However, concrete that is not designed against fire can experience significant explosive spalling from the build-up of pore pressures and internal tensile stresses when heated. In this study, the performance of wet-mixed high strength sprayed polymer mortar for fire resistance of tunnel system was evaluated by experimentally and numerically. The fire test was performed in fire resistance(electric) furnace according to RABT(Richtlinien fur die Ausstatung und den Betrieb von $Stra{\beta}entunneln$) time heating temperature curve, so as to evaluate the temperature distribution with cover thickness of wet-mixed high strength sprayed polymer mortar for fire resistance of tunnel system. Based on experimental results and numerical analysis, the proper cover thickness of wet-mixed high strength sprayed polymer mortar determined the more than 4cm.
