  • Chip breaker selection analysis, only being possible through experimental process, was obtained by a applied equation which used an orthogonal cutting model and a basic chip deformation. This equation could present an analysis of the chip breaking phenomena without the use of an actual experimetal method, and it was applied to computer simulation and proved the validity of theory through actual experiments. From these results, an efficient method for finding the optimum conditions of chip breaking was found through an optimized theory being applied to basic program. A finite element model for simulating chip breaking in orthogonal cutting was developed and discussed. By simulation the animation of chip breaking is observed in process on the computer screen.

  • Both analytical and experimental studies are presented to investigate the strength of the membrane which is designed by Kogas and will be used as a sealing for a LNG tank. Kogas has already developed the Ring-Knot type membrane, but new type had yet to be developed. This paper reports on the results of investigations into this new type of membrane. Various theorical analyses using FEM and experiments are conducted on the basis of RPIS, and it is found that the RPIS is fully satisfied.

  • LNG demand has been rapidly increasing in Korea for a variety of reasons including stable supply, non-polluting, and high combustion efficiency characteristics. One of the most important structural core element of the LNG storage tank is the membrane, consisting of stainless steel. The membrane to be applied inside of LNG storage tank is provided with corrugations to absorb thermal contraction and expansion caused by LNG temperature. Experimental studies are presented to investigate the deformation and strength of the membrane which is designed by Kogas. All experiments are conducted on the basis of RPIS, and we found the results is fully satisfied with the RPIS.
