We have studied the behavior of interdiffusion between partially miscible polymer pair from a theoretical viewpoint by applying the reptation model for collective interdiffusion and spinodal decomposition in polymer mixtures with different molecular weights. We find that our predictions agree well with the experiments of Klein and co-workers, where the exponent α of the initial increase of interfacial width with time in $t^{\alpha}$ is significantly lower than 0.5 for free diffusion.

The thermal-hydraulics phenomena in a containment during an accident will necessarily include radiative heat transfer (i) within the gas mixture due to the high radiative absorption and emission of steam and (ii) between the gas mixture and the surrounding structures. The analysis of some previous PANDA experiments (PSI, Switzerland) demonstrated the importance of the proper modelling of radiation for the benefit of numerical simulations. These results together with dedicated scoping calculations conducted for the present experiments indicated that the radiative heat transfer is considerable, even for a very low amount of steam (≈2%). The H2P2 series conducted in the large-scale PANDA facility at the Paul-Scherrer-Institut (PSI) in the framework of the OECD/NEA HYMERES-2 project is intended to enhance the understanding of thermal radiation phenomena and to provide a benchmark for corresponding numerical simulations. Thus, the test matrix was tailored around the two opposite extremes: either gas compositions with small steam content such that radiative heat transfer phenomena can be neglected. Or gas mixtures containing larger amounts of steam, so that radiative heat transfer is expected to play a dominant role. The H2P2 series consists of 5 experiments designed to isolate the radiation phenomena from convective and diffusive effects as much as possible. One vessel with a diameter of 4 m and a height of 8 m was preconditioned with different mixtures of air / steam at room and elevated temperatures. This was followed by the build-up of a stable helium stratification at constant pressure in the upper part of the vessel. After that, helium was injected from the top into the vessel which leads to an increase of the vessel pressure and a corresponding elevation-dependent and transient rise of the gas temperature. It is shown that even the addition of small amounts of steam in the initial gas atmosphere considerably impacts the radiative heat transport throughout all phases of the experiments and markedly influences i) the monitored gas peak temperature, ii) the temperature history during the compression and iii) the following relaxation phase after the compression was stopped. These PANDA experiments are the first of its kind conducted in a large scale thermal-hydraulic facility.
This paper describes a nonlinear goal programming approach to the optimal composition of composite solid propellant taking multiple characteristics into consideration synchronously. The nonlinear goal programming model with response functions, restrictions and the optimal value of each characteristic is developed using Scheffe's "Experiments with mixtures" and preference weighting system. Objective functions are described based on process, performance and assurance characteristics. The systematic approach to optimal composition in this study is proved efficient through a CTPB-AL-AP propellant which is one of composite solid propellant systems.

The immediate purposes of this study is to establish the surface chemical principles associated with the flotation process of waste papers and to verify them by practical flotation experiments. To achieve this AKD sized hydrophobic microcrystallince cellulose (MCC) with different levels of hydrophobicity, and hydrophilic MCC dyed with black were prepared as model substances. The effects of surface characteristics on flotation efficiency were evaluated by measuing the brightness of the flotation rejects obtained after the flotation experiments carried out using MCC mixtures prepared with different ratios of hydrophobic and hydrophilic MCCs. Results showed that more than 90% of the flotation rejects consisted of hydrophobic MCC indicating the critical importance of the hydrophobicity of the materials in the flotation process. The proportions of hydrophobic materials in the reject remained constant when highly sized MCC was used as a model of hydrophobic substance.
In this paper a class of mixture designs for estimating the slope of second order Scheffe polynomial response surfaces for mixture experiments with q components is presented. The variance of the estimated directional slope at a point is a function of the direction of the slope and the design. If the variance is averaged over all possible directions in the (q-1)-dimensional simplex, the averaged variance is only a function of the point and the design. By choice of design, it is possible to make this variance constant for all points equidistant from the centroid point. This property is called "slope-rotatability over al directions in the simplex", and the necessary and sufficient conditions for mixture design to have this property are given and proved. The class of designs with this property is compared with other mixture designs and discussed.discussed.

In mixture experiments with process variables, we consider the case that some of process variables are either uncontrollable or hard to control, which are called noise variables. Given the such mixture experimental data with process variables, first we study how to search for candidate models. Good candidate models are screened by the sequential variables selection method and checking the residual plots for the validity of the model assumption. Two methods, which use numerical optimization methods proposed by Derringer and Suich (1980) and minimization of the weighted expected loss, are proposed to find a cost-effective robust optimal condition in which the performance of the mean as well as the variance of the response for each of the candidate models is well-behaved under the cost restriction of the mixture. The proposed methods are illustrated with the well known fish patties texture example described by Cornell (2002).

Mixed matrix membranes of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), loaded with phosphomolybdic heteropolyacid (HPA) and crosslinked with glutaraldehyde have been prepared by the solution casting technique. Pervaporation (PV) experiments have been performed at $30^{\circ}C$ to separate water-isopropanol feed mixtures containing 10 to 40 wt.% of water. The membranes were characterized by DSC and DMTA to understand their thermal behavior and mechanical strength properties. At high content (i.e. 7 wt.% with respect to weight of PVA) of HPA, the mixed matrix membranes could extract water efficiently on the permeate side with a selectivity of 90,000 and a flux of 0.032 $kg/m^2h$ for 10 wt.% of water containing feed mixture (the lowest feed composition of water studied). Flux of the mixed matrix membranes decreased with increasing concentrations of HPA.

In this study, experiments of development and application of 50 MPa high-performance concrete are performed for large dimensional tunnel linings. In order to produce 50MPa high-performance concrete, eight optimal mixtures replacing with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag up to 50 percent of type I Portland cement were selected then tests for mechanical properties and simple adiabatic temperature rise tests were carried out. And in order to assess the quantitative characteristics of heat of hydrations of developed mixtures, three mixtures that the type I Portland cement (OPC) and each one mixture of binary and ternary mixtures (BS30, F15S35) were reselected, then the adiabatic temperature rise tests and mock-up tests were performed. Consequently, the comparisons between the results of mock-up tests and finite element analysis can be enhanced the reliability of analyzing routines of thermal behaviours of the developed high-performance concrete.
Short-term effect of phosphogypsum on soil properties including acidification, salinity and metal availability were investigated under laboratory and field conditions. Phosphogypsum and mixtures of phosphogypsum and compost were added to soil and incubated in a laboratory condition with 15% moisture content. Phosphogypsum treatments were 2.5 and 5.0 g/kg soil and in the treatments of phosphogypsum and compost mixture 10 g of compost was added additionally. After the 30 days of incubation, an additional phosphogypsum and/or compost were added to the remaining soils at the same rates of the first treatments. pH, electrical conductivity, and available hazardous elements were measured periodically during the incubation. Field experiment was conducted in a plastic film house of mellon with four treatments of phosphogypsum and compost mixtures - 25+125, 50+125, 50+250 and 100+250 kg/165 $m^2$. pH, electrical conductivity, and hazardous elements in soil and total hazardous elements in leaf were measured. In the laboratory experiment, after 30 days of the first phosphogypsum application, soil pHs were lowered by 0.7-0.8 units. After the second treatment of phosphogypsum 0.2 units of additional acidification occurred. However, acidification was not observed in the soils treated with mixtures of phosphogypsum and compost. In the laboratory experiment, phosphogypsum treatments increased electrical conductivity very significantly. In field experiment, pH and electrical conductivity of soils treated with phosphogypsum were nearly the same as those of soil not treated with phosphogypsum. Since soil condition in the field study was an open system, the free acids and salts derived from phosphogypsum could be diffused down with water leaching through the soil profile and then any significant acidification or salt accumulation in the topsoil could not be observed. In both laboratory and field experiments, levels of available hazardous elements in soils treated with phosphogypsum were quite low and not different from the levels found in the control soil. Results obtained from this study suggest that application of phosphogypsum at appropriate rates on agricultural land appears of no concern in terms of acidity, salinity and hazardous element content of soil.
Experiments were performed using sweet potato starch-wheat composite flours to study the rheology and baking properties of bread with composite flours and to test sensory characteristics. Doughs were prepared from mixtures containing wheat flour and 10, 20, and 30% of sweet potato starch(SPS). Standard methods were used to evaluate the rheology and characteristics of wheat composite flour.
