  • Wireless LAN (WLAN) interface is one of the major sources drastically depleting the battery power of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Most commercial mobile devices employ a power saving technique putting their WLAN interface into a sleep state when there is no network traffic, and thereby, save the battery power. However, since an access point (AP) just transmits the packet(s) received from a server to the corresponding mobile device immediately, it may cause a problem that the mobile device constantly remains in an awake state so that its battery power is rapidly drained. In this paper, we point out this problem and propose a new scheme that can save the mobile device's battery power with an adaptive packet scheduling at the AP side. From the experimental results based on a testbed, we found that the proposed scheme outperforms existing schemes over 50% in terms of power saving.

  • In this paper, we discuss a new architecture of future Internet for mobile-oriented environments, named Mobile-Oriented Future Internet (MOFI). The MOFI architecture is designed with Host Identifier and Local Locator (HILL) for identifier and locator separation. Based on the HILL separation architecture, we propose a Dynamic and Distributed Mapping System (DDMS) for identifier-locator mapping control. In DDMS, the mapping control function is distributed onto each access router in the domain, which is different from the centralized approach using a central anchor. For validation of the proposed MOFI-DDMS architecture, we implemented the data delivery and mapping control functions using Linux platform. From the testbed experimental results, we see that the DDMS architecture can give better performance than the existing Proxy Mobile IP (PMIP) protocol in terms of data transmission throughput.

  • In order to cope with DoS (Denial of Service) attacks disturbing delivery of intended services by exhausting resources of computing nodes, we need a solution to recognize important resources for the essential services which have to be maintained under any circumstances and to adapt the system to the urgent situation and reconfigure itself properly. In this paper, we present a two-phase scheme to handle the problem. In the first phase, by means of dynamic resource reallocation within a computing node, we try to make the selected essential services survive even after the occurrence of an attack. For the second phase when it becomes impossible to continue the service in spite of the actions taken in the first phase, we apply server replication in order to continue the transparent provision of the essential services with the end users by utilizing redundant computing nodes previously arranged. Experimental result obtained on a testbed reveals the validity of the proposed scheme. A comparison with other proposed schemes has been conducted by analyzing the performance and the cost.

  • As IT industry using networks have been developed explosively, online operations that were conducted in offline are increasing rapidly, and even relationship with other people made online. As online crimes are increasing accordingly, building security networks is getting very important. As a result, network separation between business and organization network has been performed recently, but this causes network user inconvenience and efficiency reduction. In this paper, we propose reassociation methods for already separated networks for many public organizations. We implement two reassociation methods using NAT device and shared storage and show their experimental results.

  • A satellite communication system is one of viable solutions for Internet applications running in wide areas. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. Therefore, a performance enhancing proxy(PEP) based TCP splitting connection scheme is used in the satellite link to improve the TCP performance. In this paper, we implement PEP testbed and conduct experiment to evaluate the performance of TCP splitting connection by comparing with high-speed TCP solutions in various environments. In our experimental environment, we consider multiple connections, high packet loss, and limited bandwidth. The experiment results show that PEP improves the TCP throughput than high-speed TCP variants in various environments. However, there is no improvement of the TCP throughput with the limited bandwidth because there is packet loss caused by both the congestion and the channel error.

  • In order to guarantee system survivability against attacks based on new methodology, we need a solution to recognize important resources for essential services and to adapt the urgent situation properly. In this paper, we present a dynamic resource reallocation scheme which is one of the core technologies for the implementation of intrusion tolerant systems. By means of resource reallocation within a node, this scheme enables the essential services to survive even after the occurrence of a system attack. If the settlement does not work within the node, resource reallocation among nodes takes places, thus the essential services are transferred to another prepared server node. Experimental result obtained on a testbed reveals the validity of the proposed scheme for resource reallocation. This scheme may work together with IDS(Intrusion Detection System) to produce effective responsive mechanism against attacks.

  • In broadband convergence network(BcN), heterogeneous broadband wired & wireless subnetworks and various terminal equipments will be interconnected. In order to provide end-to-end realtime multimedia services on such heterogeneous networking environment, as a result, two major problems should be resolved: i) Multimedia session establishment & negotiation that adjusts the differences in the capability of multimedia data processing at the end terminal nodes, ii) quality of service(QoS)-guaranteed connection establishment or resource reservation with connection admission control(CAC) in each heterogeneous subnetworks along the path. The session layer signaling(e.g., SIP/SDP) should be extended for QoS negotiation, and must be tightly cooperating with network layer signaling or resource reservation with CAC function. In this paper we propose a session and connection management architecture for the QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia service provisioning on BcN, with Q-SIP/SDP, resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering extension, and CAC functions. The detailed interaction scenario and related algorithms for QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia session, resource reservation and connection establishment are explained and analyzed. From the experimental implementation of the proposed scheme on a small scale BcN testbed, we verified that the proposed architecture is applicable for the realtime multimedia service provisioning. We analyze the network performance and QoS parameters in detail.

  • In a new technological environment such as big data and AI, LOD will link record information resources with various data from both inside and outside. At the heart of this connection is the interlinking technology, and interlinked LOD will realize the opening of record information as the highest level of open data. Given the ever-increasing amount of records, automation through interlinking algorithms is essential in building LODs. Therefore, this paper analyzed the structure of record information interlinking with the external data and characteristics of the record information to be considered when interconnecting. After collecting samples from the CAMS data of the National Archives, we constructed a record information's LOD. After that, we conducted a test bed that automatically interlinks the personal information of the record metadata with DBPedia. This confirms the automatic interlinking process and the performance and accuracy of the automation technology. Through the implications of the testbed, we have identified the considerations of the record information resources of the LOD interlinking process.

  • In the roaming case, the cost of using the visited network is larger than that of home network. So, if a mobile terminal is connected to the visited network, even though it actually came back to the home network, the user may unduly pay for communication. Such a problem frequently occurs when many networks are overlapped in the same region, as shown in the case of Poland. In this paper, we propose a network search algorithm to support the fast comeback to home network in the roaming environment. In the proposed scheme, which is based on the 3GPP specification, the mobile terminal tries to search the home network by using a database of network information, as fast as possible. For performance evaluation, we construct a virtual testbed with real terminal and network equipment to emulate the service providers in Poland. From the experimental results, we can see that the proposed scheme can reduce the time of comeback to the home network by 3~60 minutes, compared the existing 3GPP scheme.

  • In the context of wireless sensor networks, one of major issues is energy conservation. For low power communication, by utilizing our experimental results for the relation between clock drift and synchronization interval, we designed a new protocol which can support a wide range of duty cycles for applications with very low traffic rate and insensitive delay. The transmission (TX) node in the protocol synchronizes with the reception (RX) node very before transmitting a packet, and it can adaptively estimate the synchronization error size according to the synchronization interval from minutes to hours. We conducted simulations and a testbed implementation to show the efficacy of the proposed protocol. We found that our protocol substantially outperforms other state-of-the-art protocols, resulting in order-of-magnitude increase in network lifetime over a variety of duty cycles.
