  • The simulation of the ballistic trajectory of penetrator into the spaced multi-layer RC targets is very important to predict the hitting condition in subsequent target. Because of perturbation by lateral load of penetrator caused by asymmetric hitting position between penetrator and steel bar reinforcement, penetrator rotates and deviates from the straight path. Therefore, penetration capability of penetrator is decreased in the subsequent targets. This paper presents the result of the penetration of steel-bar-reinforced concrete target by using the explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. A series of computations is performed and compared to experimental data and the computed results are in good agreement with the experimental results over a wide range of velocities. And then we conduct the simulation according to various RC target hitting condition and impact velocities.

  • The purpose of the thesis is to develop simulation program for forecasting of optical connector. So we can achieve the time and the money saving for making the optical connector. Optical performance (insertion loss) of optical connector mainly relies on 3 misalignment factors-ferrule factor due to mis-manufacture from design, auto-centering effect that is fiber behavior phenomena between hole and fiber, fiber misalignment factor. Simulation use experimental data with auto-centering effect and fiber factor and use pseudo data with ferrule through random number generation because it is developing stage. In this study we a, pp.y kernel density estimation method with experimental data in order to know whether it belong to or not specific parametric distribution family. And we simulate to forecast insertion loss of optical multifiber connector under specific design model using nonparametric bootstrap resampling data and parametric pseudo samples from uniform distribution. We obtain the tolerance specifications of misalignment factors satisfying not exceed in maximum 1.0dB and choose optimal hole diameter.

  • Because linear motor directly drives linear motion, it does not need conversion equipment such as belt and gear. Especially linear pulse motor provide more precise positioning and large force of linear pulse motors. As current manufacture technic of linear pulse motor is much to be desired at home. This motor lay out to make use of computer aided design program, In this paper the experimental motor is 2-phases 4-poles hybrid pulse motor which has teeth per pole Simulation program is divided its function into 4 parts - air gap permeance analysis, permanent magnet & non-linear core operating point determine, winding configuration, leakage flux analysis. It is possible to make motor static and magnetic characteristics for this simulation program. Also, by varying input parameters of the program, experimental motor is to be compared to motor characteristics.

  • The engine speed fluctuation at idle operation mainly comes from cyclic variation of combustion in SI engine. In the present study, engineering model that is representing the cyclic variation of combustion was proposed for the sub-model of the engine cycle simulation. From the observed behaviors of the mass burn rates, probability density functions for the parameters of Wiebe function were defined. The mass burn rate of each cycle is obtained by Monte Cralo perturbation method with the probability function. The simulation results shows that trends of cylinder pressure variation and imep distribution follow up with those of experimental results at idle condition.

  • In the present work, the effect of PDF selection and intermittency on the result of the numerical simulation are examined by the simulation of a turbulent methane-air jet diffusion flame. As to the PDFs, beta-function and clipped Gaussian are considered. Results for the pure mixing jet are compared with experimental results. Then, the turbulent flame is calculated for the same conditions and the results obtained for the several models are compared. It is found that the clipped Gaussian distribution coupled with consideration of intermittency recovers the experimental data very well. As to the reacting flow results, the main overall properties of the turbulent jet diffusion flame such as maximum flame temperature are less affected by the choice of the PDF. Flame height and NO emissions, on the contrary, appear to be significantly influenced.

  • This paper presents a high accuracy Finite Element approach for delamination modelling in laminated composite structures. This approach uses multi-layered shell element and cohesive zone modelling to handle the mechanical properties and damages characteristics of a laminated composite plate under low velocity impact. Both intralaminar and interlaminar failure modes, which are usually observed in laminated composite materials under impact loading, were addressed. The detail of modelling, energy absorption mechanisms, and comparison of simulation results with experimental test data were discussed in detail. The presented approach was applied for various models and simulation time was found remarkably inexpensive. In addition, the results were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding results of experimental data. Considering simulation time and results accuracy, this approach addresses an efficient technique for delamination modelling, and it could be followed by other researchers for damage analysis of laminated composite material structures subjected to dynamic impact loading.

  • In this study, we have developed a simulation method to predict the initial collection efficiency of a unipolar charged fiber in the electret filters. The particle sizes considered were in the submicron range and thus Brownian motion of particles was also taken into consideration along with electrostatic forces acting on the particles. The simulation results were compared with other investigators experimental data on single fiber efficiency as well as with the calculated results using the existing correlations on single fiber efficiency. It has been shown that simulation results are in good agreement both with the experimental data with those predicted by the correlations.

  • NPT Monte Carlo simulations were performed to calculate the molecular properties of syndiotactic poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and syndiotactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) melts using the configurational bias Monte Carlo move, concerted rotation, reptation, and volume fluctuation. The density, mean square backbone end-to-end distance, mean square radius of gyration, fractional free-volume distribution, distribution of torsional angles, small molecule solubility constant, and radial distribution function of PVC at 0.1 MPa and above the glass transition temperature were calculated/measured, and those of PVA were calculated. The calculated results were compared with the corresponding experimental data and discussed. The calculated densities of PVC and PVA were smaller than the experimental values, probably due to the very low molecular weight of the model polymer used in the simulation. The fractional free-volume distribution and radial distribution function for PVC and PVA were nearly independent of temperature.

  • A mathematical model for investigating the form generation mechanism in the centerless infeed grinding process is described. For 3-D modeling of form generation, contact points are assumed to be on least squares contact lines at the grinding wheel, regulating wheel, and work-rest blade. Using force and deflection analysis, the validity of this assumption is shown. Based on the 2-D simulation model developed in the previous work and the least squares contact line assumption, a 3-D model is presented. To validate this model, simulation results were compared with the experimental works. The experiments and computer simulations were carried out using three types of cylindrical workpiece shapes with varying flat length. The experimental results agree well with the simulation. It can be seen that the effect of flat end propagated to the opposite end through workpiece reorientation.

  • In this work it is shown how the methods used in chemical engineering for the analysis and simulation of processes may be applied to the actual phosphoric acid plant. Attention has been focused on the dihydrate process for which the necessary fundamental experimental data and plant operation data are available. The results of the simulation have shown that a reasonable description of the process at hand is possible by the proposed method. However, because of the complexity of the process, of the limited basic experimental data reported in literature, and the limitations of mathematics, the model was somewhat idealized and gave a reliable representation of the influence of only a few of the variables that affect the performance of the plant.
