A Research on Gender-role Identity, Gender Discriminative Consciousness and Attitudes toward Military Service of Korean College Students (한국 대학생의 성역할정체감과 성차별의식 및 군대에 대한 태도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze male oriented military culture and gender discrimination. It examined whether the experience of military service would affect the attitude of Korean college students, gender role identity, and sexism by classifying 317 college students into three groups; males who have completed military service, males who haven't completed military service, and a female group. Research results are as follows: First, in general military experience did not enhance awareness of gender identity nor affect attitudes toward gender discrimination, but significantly enhanced masculinity in some males who completed military service was a major factor in strengthening masculinity and benevolent sexism. Second, males who completed military service and women had a more positive view of the military than males who had yet to serve in the military. Third, regardless of military experience and gender, military experience was perceived to enhance benevolent sexism towards women. Fourth, all three groups showed a strikingly positive correlation in hostile sexism and benevolent sexism. However, they did not show a significant difference in the correlation of groups. Tough these results indicate that deep-rooted gender discrimination in Korean society is enhanced by military experience, it also confirms the significance and impact of the reality of the military ideology.

  • This paper proposed new approach for the information gifted discrimination test usign EPL. We tried to distinguish high level thinking in the information gifted through test of this study. We designed discrimination test by the features of EPL and developed testing item tool like single-sprit and multi-sprite. These items are divided into adding block, changing the block order, modifying value io block, and changing a block. We designed this testing tool that the elementary students can solve items without an experience on learning programming language. We expect the testing tool io proposed this study will help to discriminate the information gifted effectively.

  • The objective of this study was to expand understanding of children's exposure to domestic violence in Korean society. In-depth personal interview was conducted by a researcher on individual experience of domestic violence in childhood. The findings of this qualitative study are summarized as follows; 1) A person who experienced domestic violence in childhood is likely to feel powerless, and think of himself/herself worthless. 2) He/She needs to have sufficient social support and protective networks. 3) A person who experienced parental violence in childhood is to suffer from people's negative behaviors such as social prejudice, preconception, and discrimination. 4) He/She is worried about the cycle of violence from generation to generation. 5) It is necessary for him/her to overcome his/her negative emotions acquired by the experience of domestic violence in childhood to have a constructive goal for the future.

Nursing Care Experience of Korean Nurses Dispatched to West Germany (파독간호사의 간호경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the nursing care experience of Korean nurses dispatched to West Germany during 1960~1970s. Methods: Qualitative research using thematic analysis was done. The participants were 13 people who were 60~70 years old. The data were collected by in-depth and focus group interviews from January to June 2016. Results: The nursing experience of Korean nurses dispatched to west Germany were composed of 197 initial codes, 15 sub themes, 4 themes including "Challenging the possibilities", "Wandering in the sea without preparation", "Distinguishing between difference and discrimination", and "Balancing oneself in two chairs". Conclusion: In order for nurses to successfully move to another country, it is needed to educate the language and inform the nursing system and preliminary education on specific nursing activities.

Determinants for the Employment of the Disabled: Focusing on Differences by Age Group (장애인 고용의 결정변인: 연령집단별 차이를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to overcome the limitations of prior studies that have failed to take into account the impact of psycho-social factors on the employment of people with disabilities as well as the differences in employment by life stage. This study employs a research model that includes psycho-social factors along with human capital to examine how the determinants of employment differ for the disabled by life stage. The analysis in this study takes the form of logistic regression, using data from the fifth wave of the Korea Welfare Panel Survey. Analysis results show that the employment probability of young people with disabilities is significantly associated with their experience of discrimination, with their chance of employment decreasing when they have more experience of discrimination. Middle-aged people with disabilities are more likely to be employed when they have a lower level of education, a better health condition and a higher level of labor ability. For the disabled elderly, their labor ability is the only factor affecting their possibility of employment; they have a higher chance of getting a job when they have a higher level of labor ability.

Effects of Perceived Stigma on Life Satisfaction and Self-Esteem of the Mental Illness (지각된 낙인이 정신장애인의 삶의 만족과 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • According to modified labeling theory, because persons with mental illness internalize the stigma of the public, they anticipate discrimination or rejection by others. Such reactions may have negative effects on both psychological and social functioning. We propose that perceived stigma are central to understanding the poor adjustment of mental patients. This study was conducted by the survey with 377 mental patients in order to discover the pathways by which perceived stigma affected life satisfaction and self-esteem. The major findings of the study were : 1) Perceived stigma has a direct effect on life satisfaction as well as indirect effect through patients' experience of discrimination. 2) Perceived stigma has no direct effect but indirectly affected self-esteem through patients' experience of discrimination and internal attribution of discriminatory situations. Based on these findings, consumer-initiated anti-stigma campaign were discussed.

Development of Discrimination Experiences Scale for Unwed mothers in Korea (미혼모 차별 경험 척도 개발 연구)

  • Korean unwed mothers and their families often experience discriminatory and unfair treatment in their everyday lives. However, there has been little research examining discrimination against unwed mothers and its effects on these women's lives. Therefore, further studies are needed to identify and assess types and degree of discrimination against unwed mothers. This study aims to investigate and develop a reliable and valid measurement scale of experiences of discrimination for Korean unwed mothers. For developing the scale, the researchers constructed a concept and sub factors, and the pre-scale of 75 items of discrimination experiences of unwed mothers by conducting a literature review and focus groups interviews, Validity and reliability of the scale were tested by carrying out an item quality analysis, a exploratory factor analysis, a correlation analysis, a criterion validity test and a reliability analysis, The scale of 21 items was constructed with three dimensions. This study is significant that it provides the scale of discrimination for Korea unwed mothers with high reliability and validity to identify and verify types and degree of discrimination experiences of unwed mothers.

Predictors of Turnover Intention among Non-regular workers in University Hospitals (대학병원 비정규직의 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze turnover intention among non-regular workers in university hospitals. The data was 292 non-regular workers in 7 university hospitals from December 1 to December 31, 2017. ANOVA, t-test were used for analysis of difference by general characteristics, and multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the effect on turnover intention. The results of the study are as follows. Unjust working environment, employment instability, discrimination experience were found to have a positive(+) effect on turnover intention. Job satisfaction, age, employment type had a significant negative(-) effect on turnover intention. In particular, high discrimination experience of non-regular workers, who occupy a large part of the hospitals in the increasingly competitive medical market, and high turnover intention can be a negative impact on good medical service and hospital management. The government should establish policies for non-regular workers and hospitals need practical changes in welfare, wages and working environment for non-regular workers.

Relationship between Disability Type, Severeness, Economic Activeness and Marital Satisfaction: Mediating Effect Using the Employment Panel Data in Everyday Discrimination (장애유형, 장애정도 및 경제활동상태와 결혼생활만족도의 관계: 고용패널데이터를 활용한 장애인의 일상생활 차별경험의 매개효과)

  • This paper explores the how the disability type, severeness and economic activeness affects marital satisfaction, and seeks to improve marital satisfaction among disabled by clarifying mediating effects of discriminatory experiences in everyday experiences. This research was done with 3,463 married disabled who were prone to everyday discrimination, among whom were enrolled in research database of Employment Development Institute of Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled. The research showed positive effects between marital satisfaction and everyday discriminatory experience except for unemployed people and severe among all the disabled type (external disability, sensory disability, mental disability, internal disability), disability severeness (severe and light), and economic activeness (paid workers, self-employed, home-worker, unemployed, not economically active). Also, relationship between disability type, severeness, economical activeness and marital satisfaction was partly mediated through everyday discriminatory experiences. Therefore, active movements to reduce everyday discrimination are strongly advised.

Recognition Level of Imported Food and Its Correlation with Discrimination Ability (수입식품에 대한 인식도 및 분별력과의 상관성)

  • This study used questionnaires to investigate the safety awareness for imported foods by 365 male and female adults in Taejon. The results of the study were as follow : By factor analysis, the subjects' behaviors and awareness of the imported food was grouped into 3 factors such as 'health and quality factor', 'purchasing factor' and 'contamination factor'. 'Health and quality factor' and 'purchasing factor' were not recognized negatively by the subjects, moreover' contamination factor' was recognized very highly. The subjects' concern and worry about the imported food was also very high. The marital status, education level, nutriton knowledge adn recognition level of contamination by pesticides and heavy metals of foods partially affected the recognitio level of imported foods. The major selection criteria of imported food were distribution period(36.3%), price(28.8%) and purchasing experience(17.3%). The imported food mean discrimination score was 8.4±3.1 out of 13. The worst discriminatio score was red pepper. The subjects' experiences with imported foods selection affected the most instead of education level or nutrition knowledge. The higher discrimination score group more negatively recognized imported food and contamination recognition level was higher whereas the lowerdiscrimination score group more positively recognized the purchasing frequency and with to buy more easily. But both groups desired to reinforce contamination control. The better discrimination score of imported food pooring recognized sanitation concerns(p<0.05), quality(p<0.05), cooking convenience(p<0.01), desire for more variety(p<0.05), and the higher contamination recognition level(p<0.05) and desire to reinforce contamination control(p<0.01).
