Study on Relationship between Turn-back Time and Assignment of Trainsets (철도 차량의 반복시간과 소요량 사이의 관계 고찰)

  • This study examines the relationship between the operational turnaround time and the rolling stock requirements. In this study, the operational turnaround time of rolling stock is divided into physical turnback time and waiting time. This paper presents a variety of models and estimation results of the existing studies on operational turnaround time. The proposed estimation model of the operational turnaround time in this study is designed to minimize the operational turnaround time in terminus stations, while the rolling stock requirement is reduced. The developed estimation model was applied in a real-world example, and it was found that the operational turnaround time and the required rolling stocks were lessened compared with the current condition. The method presented in this paper is expected to be utilized in train operational planning and rolling stock routing plans, thereby minimizing the rolling stock requirements of existing railway operating authorities.

A Study on the Mitigation of Taxi Supply and Demand Discrepancy by Adjusting Expected Revenues of Platform Taxi Calls (택시호출 간 기대수익 조정을 통한 택시 수급불일치 완화방안 연구)

  • As smartphones spread and ICT technologies develop, taxi services have changed from hovering to platform-based calls and reservations. This has improved the mobility and accessibility of taxi users but caused problems, such as digital observing (no-responses to calls) for either short-distance services or services during the peak-demand periods. Digital Observing means ignoring and not accepting calls when they occur, which require improvement. Therefore, this study aims to derive measures to mitigate discrepancies in taxi supply and demand by adjusting the expected revenue of each taxi service using reinforcement learning based on the Taxi operation data. The results confirmed that the average complete response rate to calls would increase from 50.29% to 54.24% when incentives are applied, and an improvement of 5.86% can be achieved in short-distance sections of less than 5,000 won incentives. It is expected that the improvement will increase profitability for drivers, reduce the waiting time for passengers, and improve satisfaction with taxi services overall.

Shortest-Frame-First Scheduling Algorithm of Threads On Multithreaded Models (다중스레드 모델에서 최단 프레임 우선 스레드 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • Because FIFO thread scheduling used in the existing multithreaded models does not consider locality in programs, it may result in the decrease of the performance of execution, caused by the frequent context switching overhead and delay of execution of relatively short frames. Quantum unit scheduling enhances the performance a little, but it still has the problems such as the decrease in the processor utilization and the longer delay due to its heavy dependency on the priority of the quantum units. In this paper, we propose shortest-frame-first(SFF) thread scheduling algorithm. Our algorithm selects and schedules the frame that is expected to take the shortest execution time using thread size and synchronization information analyzed at compile-time. We can estimate the relative execution time of each frame at compile-time. Using SFF thread scheduling algorithm on the multithreaded models, we can expect the faster execution, better utilization of the processor, increased throughput and short waiting time compared to FIFO scheduling.

Development of Real-time Subway Information Service for the Visually Impaired (시각 장애인을 위한 실시간 지하철 이용 정보 제공 서비스 개발)

  • The need for customized services providing real-time subway information through mobile devices for the blind using subway as their primary transportation method is becoming more essential. Therefore, this study is aimed at developing a mobile service to provide real-time subway information by displaying with braille and utilizing Dot Watch. The process of real-time subway information guidance mobile service is as follows: the route confirmation stage, the ride waiting & judgment stage, the on-the-go stage, and lastly, the off-road phase & wrong path state. The service provides real-time appropriate information to the visually impaired people for each situation. It receives subway information through API provided by Seoul Metropolitan Government and ODSay API. The service is developed and coded with in Java using Android Studio, and the communicating method with Dot Watch was done using Bluetooth. The usability evaluation was conducted in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction. The evaluation methods mentioned above were carried out by testees, and feedback was given. They assessed that the information provided was useful but still unstable to use the system. It is expected that actual usability will increase if our study is supplemented using voice output function.

Real-Time Job Scheduling Strategy for Grid Computing (그리드 컴퓨팅을 위한 실시간 작업 스케줄링 정책)

  • In this paper, we propose a scheduling strategy for grid environment that reduces resource cost. This strategy considers resource cost and job failure rate to efficiently allocate local computing resources. The key idea of our strategy is that we use two-level scheduling using remote and local scheduler. The remote scheduler determines the expected total execution times of jobs using the current network and local system status maintained in its resource database and allocates jobs with minimum total execution time to local systems. The local scheduler recalculates the waiting time and execution time of allocated job and uses it to determine whether the job can be processed within the specified deadline. If it cannot finish in time, the job is migrated other local systems, through simulation, we show that it is more effective to reduce the resource cost than the previous Greedy strategy. We also show that the proposed strategy improves the performance compared to previous Greedy strategy.

A Comparative Study on the Passenger's Time Saving Effects of Urban Express Railway Service

  • The goal of the transportation policy of Seoul is to increase the ridership of the subway system by constructing the public transportation network, the subway system. To accomplish this goal, the city of Seoul has been constructing the Metropolitan Subway System. Currently, seven subway lines which connect major areas in Seoul are operating. However, the ridership of subway system was not increased as much as we expected, even though more subway lines have been implemented. It seems that although the length of the subway line was extended, the current way of the subway operation that trains stop at every station cannot satisfy the passenger's need. Thus, we should try to increase the demand by providing quicker services and diversifying the subway operations; changing the point of view is required. This paper introduces the distinctive features of the express subway system and the model for analysing the effects of that system. This paper also presents the results for the feasibility study of the express subway system on the 5th Subway Line and Kyong-Eue Railway Line. Based on the results of the case studies, We can conclude as : First, the express system reduces a total travel time by about $13\%$; in particular, the Kyong-Eue Line is more effective than the subway Line ${\sharp}5$. Second, the shorter headway of express trains increases the time saving effects on subway system although it requests more waiting time to low-speed train passengers. When the service frequency is increased from 5 to 7.5 times/hour, total saved time ratio is about $10\%$ in the Subway Line ${\sharp}5$ and about $18\%$ in the Kyong-Eue Line.

  • In the external inspection and packaging stages of products used in the semiconductor manufacturing process, there is a problem in which particles are adsorbed to the product itself or a carrying tool due to electrostatic discharge. This study presents a methodology that can improve the problem of adsorption of particles to a product by using a practical TRIZ technique. By applying the proposed practical TRIZ-based methodology, the problem was defined, and contradictions caused by product waiting time were derived. Among the derived contradictions, physical contradictions were set and the concept of 'space separation' was applied to derive solutions such as 'installation of Ionizer' and 'improvement of the layout of the workroom'. As a result of the experiment by applying 'Ionizer Installation' and 'Workroom Layout Improvement' derived through the application of practical TRIZ, it was confirmed that the particle adsorption problem that occurs during the waiting time of the product can be solved.Through this study, it is expected that workers, facility engineers, and technical engineers working at manufacturing processes will be able to effectively solve the problems they face through creative thinking and change of ideas by using practical TRIZ techniques, and contribute to innovative technology development and productivity improvement.

  • The study herein has focused on offering foundation infrastructure in order for seamen who arrive at Korean ports to use internet service smoothly in waiting time and free time. It also concentrated on how to build communication infrastructure for efficient operations when improving existing ports and developing new ports. For this, it has grasped the tendency of researches concerning the existing port communication and has also investigated the status and problems of communication infrastructure being used currently in ports. So it has suggested several realistic development methods based on mesh network and has reviewed them in terms of the stability, economic feasibility and efficiency. Additionally, this research offers the results of the performance test conducted on major equipment in market by the suggested methods. This research can be a good guideline in building wireless communication systems of ports and is expected to contribute to creating traffic volume by improving the image of ports.

  • Recently the Paris Climate Change Accord has been officially put into effect, making global efforts to implement Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions, and also International environmental regulations in the automotive sector will be further strengthened. The electric vehicle, which minimizes the particulate matter generated by existing internal combustion engine automobiles, is evaluated as a representative eco-friendly automobile. However, charging the battery of an electric vehicle is not fully environment-friendly if it is fueled by electricity that is being generated by fossil fuels as an energy source. The energy generated by the photovoltaic power generation system, which is an infinite clean energy, can be used to charge an electric vehicle's battery. Currently, shortage of charging facilities, time of charging, and high battery prices are the problem of activating the supply of electric vehicles. This study is to build a conjunction between the EVBSS (Electric Vehicle Battery Supply System) and ESS (Energy Storage System), which can quickly supply the photovoltaic charged battery to the required demand. If the charged battery in the Battery Swapping Station (BSS) is swapped swiftly, it will dramatically shorten the waiting time for charging the battery. As a result, if the battery is rented when it is needed, electric vehicles can be sold without the cost of a battery, which accounts for a large portion of the total cost, then the supply of electric vehicles are expected to expand. Furthermore, it will be an important alternative to maneuver climate change by minimizing GHG emissions from internal combustion engine vehicles.

Improving Lock Performance of Home-base Lazy Release Consistency (Home-based Lazy Release Consistency의 락 성능향상)

  • Home-based Lazy Release Consistency (HLRC) shows poor performance on lock based applications because of two reasons:(1) a whole page is fetched on a page fault while actual modification is much smaller , and(2) the home is at the fixed location while access pattern is migratory, In this paper we present an efficient lock protocol for HLRC. In this protocol, the pages that are expected to be used by acquirer selectively updated using diffs. The diff accumulation problem is minimized by limiting the size of diffs to be sent for each page. Our protocol reduces the number or page faults inside critical sections because pages can be updated by applying locally stored diffs . This reduction yields the reduction of average lock waiting time and the reduction of message amount. The experiment with five applications shows that our protocol archives 2%~40% speedup against base HLRC for four applications.
