The expansion capacity and strength of expansive grout have a significant influence on the stress state of a supported rock mass and the strength of a grout-rock mass structure. The expansion and strength characteristics are vital in grouting preparation and application. To analyze the expansion performance and mechanical properties of expansive grout, uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) tests, expansion ratio tests, XRD, SEM, and microscopic scanning tests (MSTs) of expansive grout under different curing pressure conditions were conducted. The microevolution was analyzed by combining the failure characteristics, XRD patterns, SEM images, and surface morphologies of the specimens. The experimental results show that: (1) The final expansion ratio of the expansive grout was linear with increasing expansion agent content and nonlinear with increasing curing pressure. (2) The strength of the expansive grout was positively correlated with curing pressure and negatively correlated with expansion agent content. (3) The expansion of expansive grout was related mainly to the development of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) crystals. With an increase in expansion agent content, the final expansion ratio increased, but the expansion rate decreased. With an increase in the curing pressure, the grout expansion effect decreased significantly. (4) The proportion of the concave surfaces at the centre of the specimen cross-section reflected the specimen's porosity to a certain extent, which was linear with increasing expansion agent content and curing pressure.
The objective of this study is to investigate the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of the micro-fin tubes before and after the tube-expansion process. Test tubes are single-grooved micro-fin tubes made of copper with an outer diameter of 9.52 mm before the tube-expansion. The direct heating method is applied in order to make the refrigerant evaporated in the micro-fin tubes. The test ranges of the heat flux, mass flux, and the saturation pressure are 5 to 15kW/$m^2$, 100 to 200 kg/$m^2s$ and 540 to 790 kPa, respectively. The effects of the mass flux, heat flux, and the saturation pressure of the refrigerant on the pressure drop and the heat transfer are presented for the refrigerant R22. In the test conditions of this study, the heat transfer coefficient for the micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion is about 16.5% smaller than that before the tube-expansion because the fin height of micro-fin is reduced and the fin shape becomes flatter. The micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion has about 7.7% greater average pressure drop than that before the tube-expansion process.
This paper is related to an analysis on the surface expansion in backward can extrusion process using spherical punches. It is generally known that the backward can extrusion process usually experiences severe normal pressure and heavy surface expansion. This is a reason why the backward can extrusion process is one of most difficult operations among many forging processes. Different punch nose radii have been applied to the simulation to investigate the effect of punch nose radius on the surface expansion, which is a major effort in this study. AA 2024 aluminum alloy is selected as a model material for investigation. Different frictional conditions have also been selected as a process parameter. The pressure applied on the punch has been also investigated since heavy surface expansion as well as high normal pressure on the tool usually leads to severe tribological conditions along the interface between material and tool. The simulation results are summarized in terms of surface expansion at different reduction in height, deformation patterns including strain distributions and maximum pressure exerted on the workpiece and punch, the effect of punch nose radius and the frictional condition on the surface expansion and the location and magnitude of maximum pressure exerted, respectively.
Dynamical expansion of H II regions plays a key role in dispersing surrounding gas and therefore in limiting the efficiency of star formation in molecular clouds. We use analytic methods and numerical simulations to explore expansions of spherical dusty H II regions, taking into account the effects of direct radiation pressure, gas pressure, and total gravity of the gas and stars. Simulations show that the structure of the ionized zone closely follows Draine (2011)'s static equilibrium model in which radiation pressure acting on gas and dust grains balances the gas pressure gradient. Strong radiation pressure creates a central cavity and a compressed shell at the ionized boundary. We analytically solve for the temporal evolution of a thin shell, finding a good agreement with the numerical experiments. We estimate the minimum star formation efficiency required for a cloud of given mass and size to be destroyed by an HII region expansion. We find that typical giant molecular clouds in the Milky Way can be destroyed by the gas-pressure driven expansion of an H II region, requiring an efficiency of less than a few percent. On the other hand, more dense cluster-forming clouds in starburst environments can be destroyed by the radiation pressure driven expansion, with an efficiency of more than ~30 percent that increases with the mean surface density, independent of the total (gas+stars) mass. The time scale of the expansion is always smaller than the dynamical time scale of the cloud, suggesting that H II regions are likely to be a dominant feedback process in protoclusters before supernova explosions occurs.
The interrupting capability of gas circuit breakers(GCB) are critically dependent on the pressure rise of the puffer cylinder or the thermal expansion chamber at current zero. Therefore it's very useful for the designers to know the pressure rise there at the design stage. Much effort has been done to predict the pressure rise in the puffer cylinder or the thermal expansion chamber in no-load condition. Thus, we now calculate it with reasonable accuracy with the simple programs coded by ourselves or with the commercial CFD packages. However, it has been still difficult problem to calculate it under the existence of arc. In this paper, we propose a method which can be used to predict the pressure rise in the thermal expansion chamber of thermal expansion type GCB. The method has been applied to the 25.8kV 25kA thermal expansion type model GCB and the calculated results have been compared with those from experiment.
The safety valve is the important equipment used to protect the pressure vessel and pressure facilities from overpressure by discharging the operation medium when the pressure of system is reaching the design pressure of the system. Some materials for a safety valve disk are studied in this paper. A studied safety valve has to resist sulfurous acid and nitric acid. etc. Furthermore teflon which is a general material of the valve easily sticks to a disk and a sliding part of the valve by thermal expansion. Therefore both teflon and stainless-steel are used to improve these problems. The analysis of the thermal expansion is conducted with commercial FEM software to improve the problems. Boundary conditions were temperature and load in this study. From the analysis, the thermal expansion of by teflon/stainless steel-made valve is lower than that of teflon-made valve under high temperature. Thus, teflon/stainless steel-made valve is safe and no malfunction by thermal expansion.
Experimental study on the flow field inside the nozzle for radial turbine was performed. At design point, the pressure is high and the Mach number is low at the pressure side of the nozzle inlet semi-vaneless space as the flow turns through the nozzle vanes. As the flow accelerates through the nozzle passage to the throat the pressure level at the pressure and suction sides becomes similar. The flow continued accelerating from the throat to the inlet of turbine wheel and the pressure field became uniform in the circumferential direction in the vaneless space. In high expansion ratio condition, strong favorable pressure gradient band region occurred just after the throat in the semi-vaneless space in the circumferential direction and the pressure became uniform in the circumferential direction after this band. In low expansion ratio condition, core flow acceleration is dominant after the throat and this non-uniform pressure field reached to the inlet of turbine wheel.
A 3 valve-type pulse tube refrigerator optains its cooling effect from pressure drop by releasing the part of the charged gas through hot end nozzle. The objective of this study is to analyze the performance and to find an optimal expansion pressure of the 3 valve-type pulse tube refrigerator. It is assumed that gas lumps are not mixed and periodically repeat the adiabatic compression and expansion processes. And the nodal model is applied for the analysis of the regenerator. As the result of analysis, the optimum pressure at the end of expansion process was about 80-90% of the maximum pressure.
A safety valve is used for protecting the pressure vessel and facilities by discharging the operating fluid into the valve from the accident when the pressure is over the designated value. The fluid is sulfurous acid and nitric acid. etc. in the semi-conductor assembly line. Thus the valve elements material must be acid resistance. Teflon, which is used generally as inner parts of a valve, tends to easily sticks to sliding surface by thermal expansion under high temperature. Some studies are performed to change teflon to another material and shape to have a better fluidity under the condition. The analysis of the thermal expansion is conducted by commercial FEM software to improve the problems. Boundary conditions were temperature and load in this study. From the analysis, the thermal expansion of stainless steel is verified to be lower than that of teflon under high temperature. Thus coupled teflon/stainless steel-made valve is applied to assembly line without danger due to thermal expansion.
