Physicochemical Properties and Antioxidant Activity of Extruded Rice Flour with Various Cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) Bean Content (카카오 빈 함량에 따른 쌀 압출성형물의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화 활성)

  • This study was carried out to determine the effect of cacao bean addition on the physicochemical properties of extruded rice flour. Rice-based cacao beans (0, 20, 40, 60%) were extruded at a die temperature of $130^{\circ}C$, screw speed of 200 rpm, and moisture content of 25%. As the content of cacao beans increased from 20% to 60%, expansion index decreased, while piece density and specific length increased. The water soluble index and water absorption index of the extrudate increased through extrusion cooking. Lightness decreased as cacao bean content increased while redness increased. As the content of cacao beans increased, paste viscosity decreased. Cold peak viscosity was observed in all extrudates of raw roasted cacao beans. ${\alpha},{\alpha}$-Diphenyl-${\beta}$-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity increased upon extrusion and cacao bean addition. As content of cacao beans increased, non-roasted cacao beans had higher total phenolic contents than roasted cacao beans. This study showed that addition of cacao beans to extruded rice snack improved antioxidant activity.

A Numerical Study of the Flow Field in the Combustion Chamber of the I.C Engine with Offset Valve (편심 밸브를 갖는 내연기관의 연소실 내부 유동장에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Three dimensional numerical calculations were carried out for two different combustion chambers with the offset valve in order to investigate the swirl and the squish effects on the flow fields. The modified K-.epsilon. turbulence model considering the change of the density under the condition of the rapid compression and expansion of the pistion was used. During the compression process, it was found that the squish flow which controls the subsequent combustion process was produced due to the piston bowl in the bowl piston type combustion chambers but not for the flat piston type. The swirl velocity close to the solid body rotation was maintained in the flat piston type combustion chambers, but for the bowl piston type a resulting from the change of the solid body rotation was generated in the radial-circumferential plane. For the swirl ratio effect, as the swirl ratio increases, it was found that a large and strong vortex was generated in the radial-circumferential plane of bowl piston type combustion chambers because of the strong inward flows from the combustion chamber wall. These computational results were compared with the results of LDA measurement.

  • In order to derive domain-independent heuristics from the specification of a planning problem, it is required to relax the given problem and then solve the relaxed one. In this paper, we present a new planning graph, Merged Planning Graph(MPG), and GD heuristics for solving contingent planning problems with both uncertainty about the initial state and non-deterministic action effects. The merged planning graph is an extended one to be applied to the contingent planning problems from the relaxed planning graph, which is a common means to get effective heuristics for solving the classical planning problems. In order to get heuristics for solving the contingent planning problems with sensing actions and non-deterministic actions, the new graph utilizes additionally the effect-merge relaxations of these actions as well as the traditional delete relaxations. Proceeding parallel to the forward expansion of the merged planning graph, the computation of GD heuristic excludes the unnecessary redundant cost from estimating the minimal reachability cost to achieve the overall set of goals by analyzing interdependencies among goals or subgoals. Therefore, GD heuristics have the advantage that they usually require less computation time than the overlap heuristics, but are more informative than the max and the additive heuristics. In this paper, we explain the experimental analysis to show the accuracy and the search efficiency of the GD heuristics.

Cyclic Oxidation Behavior of Vacuum Plasma Sprayed NiCoCrAlY Overlay Coatings (진공 플라즈마 용사법을 통해 형성된 NiCoCrAlY 오버레이 코팅의 반복 산화 거동)

  • MCrAlY overaly coatings are used as oxidation barrier coatings to prevent degradation of the underlying substrate in high temperature and oxidizing environment of the hot section of gas turbines. Therefore, oxidation resistance in high temperature is important property of MCrAlY coatings. Also, coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of MCrAlY have middle value of that of Ni-based superalloys and oxides, which have the effect of preventing the delamination of the surface oxides. Cyclic oxidation test is one of the most useful methods for evaluating the high temperature durability of coatings used in gas turbines. In this study, NiCoCrAlY overlay coatings were formed on Inconel 792(IN 792) substrates by vacuum plasma spraying process. Vacuum plasma sprayed NiCoCrAlY coatings and IN 792 susbstrates were exposed to 1000℃ one-hour cyclic oxidation environment. NiCoCrAlY coatings showed lower weight gain in short-term oxidation. In long-term oxidation, IN 792 substrates showed higher weight loss due to delamination of surface oxide but NiCoCrAlY coatings showed lower weight loss. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed α-Al2O3 and NiCr2O4 was formed during the cyclic oxidation test. Through cross-section observation using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis, thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer composed of α-Al2O3 and NiCr2O4 was formed and the thickness of TGO increased during 1000℃ cyclic oxidation test. β phase in upper side of NiCoCrAlY coating was depleted due to oxidation of Al and outer beta depletion zone thickness also increased as the cyclic oxidation time increased.

Effects of Professional Development for Equity: Focusing on High School Students' Attitudes toward Mathematics (교육 형평성을 위한 고등학교 수학 교사 교육 시행 효과: 학생들의 수학 정의적 영역을 중심으로)

  • Having mathematics for everyone in terms of students' mathematics achievement and attitudes toward mathematics is challenging in high school in South Korea. To gain such purpose, teachers are supposed to have a considerable amount of knowledge and develop mathematical and pedagogical reasoning and insight because equity can be fulfilled in mathematics classroom when any student share their ideas and have mathematical discussions. As a part of a large project aimed to develop and enact professional development for equity and examine its effects and, finally, to propose the direction of professional development to help students cognitively and affectively balanced grow in mathematics, the current study briefly introduces how such professional development was designed and implemented. This study reports its effect based on the statistical analysis of students' responses for the three different surveys, which are parts of the National Assessment of Educational Achievement study, TIMSS Advanced, and the survey about classroom interaction. The data collected in all students in school whose three mathematics teachers had participated in the professional development for two years. The findings consistently indicate the strong and impressive growths in students' attitudes toward mathematics, which are statistically significant. Furthermore, their attitudes toward mathematics are also related to interactions in a mathematics classroom. Based on such results, this study claims expansion of professional development for equity.

Regulation of the Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress by BIP/GRP78 is involved in Meiotic Maturation of Porcine Oocytes In Vitro

  • In the present study, we investigated the role of binding immunoglobulin protein/glucose-regulated protein, 78-kDa (BIP/GRP78)-regulated endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress on meiotic maturation and cumulus cells expansion in porcine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs). Previously, it has been demonstrated that unfolded protein response (UPR)-related genes, such as molecules involved in ER-stress defense mechanisms, were expressed in matured oocytes and cumulus cells during in vitro maturation (IVM) of porcine oocytes. However, BIP/GRP78-mediated regulation of ER stress in porcine oocytes has not been reported. Firstly, we observed the effects of knockdown of BIP/GRP78 (an UPR initiation marker) using porcine-specific siRNAs (#909, #693, and #1570) on oocyte maturation. Among all siRNAs, siRNA #693 significantly reduced the protein levels of UPR marker proteins (BIP/GRP78, ATF4, and P90ATF6) in porcine COCs observed by Western blotting and immunofluorescence analysis. We also observed that the reduction of BIP/GRP78 levels by siRNA#693 significantly inhibited the meiotic maturation of oocytes (siRNA #693: $32.5{\pm}10.1%$ vs control: $77.8{\pm}5.3%$). In addition, we also checked the effect of ER-stress inhibitors, tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA, $200{\mu}M$) and melatonin ($0.1{\mu}M$), in BIP/GRP78-knockdown oocytes. TUDCA and melatonin treatment could restore the expression levels of ER-stress marker proteins (BIP/GRP78, $p-eIF2{\alpha}$, $eIF2{\alpha}$, ATF4, and P90ATF6) in siRNA #693-transfected matured COCs. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that BIP/GRP78-mediated regulation of UPR signaling and ER stress plays an important role in in vitro maturation of porcine oocytes.

A Performance Improvement of Linux TCP Networking by Data Structure Reuse (자료 구조 재사용을 이용한 리눅스 TCP 네트워킹 성능 개선)

  • As Internet traffic increases recently, much effort has been put on improving the performance of a web server. In addition to hardware side solutions such as replacement by high-end hardware or expansion of the number of servers, there are software side solutions to improve performance. Recent studies on these software side solutions have been actively performed. In this paper, we identify performance degradation problems occurring in a conventional TCP networking reception process and propose a way to solve them. We improve performance by combining three kinds of existing methods for Linux Networking Performance Improvement and two kinds of newly proposed methods in this paper. The three existing methods include 1) an allocation method of a packet flow to a core in a multi-core environment, 2) ITR(Interrupt Throttle Rate) method to control excessive interrupt requests, and 3) sk_buff data structure recycling. The two newly proposed methods are fd data structure recycling and epoll_event data structure recycling. Through experiments in a web server environment, we verify the effect of our two proposed methods and its combination with the three existing methods for performance improvement, respectively. We use three kinds of web servers: a simple web server, Lighttpd generally used in Linux, and Apache. In a simple web server environment, fd data structure recycling and epoll_event data structure recycling bring out performance improvement by about 7 % and 6%, respectively. If they are combined with the three existing methods, performance is improved by up to 40% in total. In a Lighttpd and an Apache web server environment, the combination of five methods brings out performance improvement by up to 36% and 20% in total, respectively.

Interfacial disruption effect on multilayer-films/GaN : Comparative study of Pd/Ni and Ni/Pd films

  • 직접천이형 wide band gap(3.4eV) 반도체중의 하나인 GaN를 청색 및 자외선 laser diode, 고출력 전자장비 등으로 응용하기 위해서는 낮은 접합저항을 갖는 Ohmic contact이 선행되어야 한다. 그러나 만족할만한 p-type GaN의 Ohmic contact은 아직 실현되고 있지 못하며, 이는 GaN와 접합 금속과의 구체적인 반응의 연구를 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서 앞서 Pt, Pt, Ni등의 late transition metal을 p-GaN에 접합시킨 결과 이들은 접합 당시 비교적 평탄하나 후열 처리과정에서 비교적 낮은 온도에서 기판과 열팽창계수의 차이로 인하여 평탄성을 잃어버리면서 barrier height가 증가한다는 사실을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 열적 불안정성을 극복하기 위하여 Ni과 Pd를 차례로 증착하고 가열하면서 interfacial reaction, film morphology, Fermi level의 움직임을 monchromatic XPS(x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) 와 SAM(scanning Auger microscopy) 그리고 ex-situ AFM을 이용하여 밝히고자 하였다. 특히 후열처리에 의한 계면 반응에 수반되는 구성 금속원소 간의 합금현상과 금속 층의 평탄성이 밀접한 관계가 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 합금과정에서 나타나는 금속원소들의 중심 준위의 이동을 체계적으로 규명하기 위해서 Pd1-xNix와 Pd1-xGax 합금들의 표준시료를 arc melting method로 만들어 농도에 따른 금속원소들의 중심 준위의 이동을 측정하여, Pd/Ni/p-GaN 및 Ni/Pd/p-GaN 계에서 열처리 온도에 따른 interfacial reaction을 확인하였다. 그 결과 두 계가 상온에서 nitride 및 alloy를 형성하지 않고 고르게 증착되고, 열처리 온도를 40$0^{\circ}C$에서 $650^{\circ}C$까지 증가시킴에 따라 계면반응의 부산물인 metallic Ga은 증가하고 있으마 nitride는 여전히 형성되지 않는 것을 확인하였다. 증착당시 Ni이 계면에 있는 Pd/Ni/p-GaN의 경우에는 52$0^{\circ}C$까지의 열처리에 의하여 Ni과 Pd가 골고루 섞이고 그 평탄성도 유지되고 barier height의 변화도 없었다. 더 높은 $650^{\circ}C$ 가열에 의해서는 surface free energy가 작은 Ga의 활발한 편석 현상으로 인해 표면은 Ga이 풍부한 Pd-Ga의 합금층으로 덮이고, 동시에 작은 pinhole들이 발생하며 barrier height도 0.3eV 가량 증가하게 된다. 반면에 증착당시 Pd이 계면에 있는 Ni/Pd/p-GaN의 경우에는 40$0^{\circ}C$의 가열까지는 두 금속이 그들 계면에서부터 섞이나, 52$0^{\circ}C$의 가열에 의해 이미 barrier height가 0.2eV 가량 증가하기 시작하였다. 더 높은 $650^{\circ}C$가열에 의해서는 커다란 pinhole, 0.5eV 가량의 barrier height 증가, Pd clustering이 동시에 관찰되었다. 따라서 Ni과 Pd의 일함수는 물론 thermal expansion coefficient가 거의 같으며 surface free energy도 거의 일치한다는 점을 감안하면, 이렇게 뚜렷한 열적 안정성의 차이는 GaN와 contact metal과의 반응시작 온도(disruption onset temperature)의 차이에 기인함을 알 수 있었다. 즉 계면에서의 반응에 의해 편석되는 Ga에 의해 박막의 strain이 이완되면, pinhole 등의 박막결함이 줄어 들고, 이는 계면의 N의 out-diffusion을 방지하여 p-type GaN의 barrier height 증가를 막게 된다.

Effect of Temperature and Nutrition Affecting Oospore Formation of Phytophthora capsici Causing Red Pepper Fruit Rot (고추 역병균(疫病菌) (Phytophthora capsici)의 난포자(卵胞子) 형성(形成)에 미치는 온도(溫度) 및 영양(營養)의 효과(效果))

  • Sexual reproductive structure of Phytophthora capsici in vitro was round shape with thick wall and $24.4\;{\mu}m$ of diameter ranging $20-32.5\;{\mu}m$. Oogonium was $26.7\;{\mu}m$ $(21-37.5\;{\mu}m$) and $6.5-{\times}5.4m$ $(6-8{\times}5-6{\mu}m)$ for antheridium as doughnut shaped. Since mycelial contact of the paired cultures initiated right after inoculation, mycelial expansion phase was followed. Oospore morphogensis could be divided into the four phases for reproducing adult oospores. The optimum temperature for oospore reproduction was $20-24^{\circ}C$, whereas a retard trend for oospore formation was at the temperature above $25^{\circ}C$. Korean squash agar medium showed a higher oospore formation than the existing V-8 agar medium. Red pepper fruit agar medium was next. No oospore was reproduced on the red pepper leaf medium. Diurnal light with $1800{\pm}300$ and $800{\pm}300$ Lux showed rather retardation for oospore formation than dark conditions.

Quality Characteristics of Dinner Roll Added with Lyophilized Sweet Potato Powder and Its Effect on the Blood Glucose Level (고구마 분말을 첨가하여 제조한 dinner roll의 품질특성과 당뇨 유도 흰쥐의 혈당에 미치는 효과)

  • The present study was performed to increase the availability of sweet (Ipomoea batatas) and to develop dinner roll with the reducing ability of blood glucose levels. Different contents of lyophilized sweet potato powder (SPP) were added in dinner roll. Compare to the control group, batter density, a value, hardness, and cohesiveness of the SPP-treated groups were significantly increased while dough expansion rate, baking loss rate, L value, and Hue angle were significantly decreased. Twenty four Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with the SPP-treated diet for 4 weeks after diabetes was induced with the injection of streptozotocin. The blood glucose concentration of the SPP-treated group was significantly lower than that of the control. Although the SPP-treated groups possessed the ability of reducing blood glucose level, the sensory qualities were inferior to the control. Thus, follow-up study was required to improve the sensory characteristics as well as the texture properties.
