  • The bleached red algae fiber(BRAF) showed very similar crystallinity to the cellulose, furthermore, it has higher thermal decomposition temperature than that of the microcrystalline cellulose(MCC). Polypropylene biocomposites reinforced with BRAF have been fabricated with various BRAF contents by compression molding method and their mechanical and thermomechanical properties have been studied. The mechanical strength as tensile, impact and flexural modulus of BRAF/PP biocomposites were gradually improved with increasing the BRAF content, and thermal property which against the thermal expansion was markdly improved, especially. These results are compared with chopped non-woody fibers as Henequen or Kenaf, BRAF was more effective for fabrication of biocomposites reinforced small-sized fibers. The red algae fiber reinforced biocomposites has the applicability such as electronics, biodegradable products and small-structure composites.

  • The accurate prediction of the ship wave resistance is very important to design ships which operate satisfactorily in a wave environment. Thus, work should continue on development and validation of methods to compute ship wave patterns and wave resistance. Research efforts to improve the prediction of ship waves and wavemaking resistance are categorized in two major areas. First is the development of higher-order theories to take account of the nonlinear effect of the free surface condition and improved analytical treatment of the body boundary condition. Second is the development of direct numerical methods aimed at solving body and free-surface boundary conditions as accurately as possible. A new formulation of the slender body theory for a ship with constant speed is developed by Maruo. It is quite different from the existing slender ship theory by Vossers, Maruo and Tuck. It may be regarded as a substitute for the Neumann-Kelvin approximation. In present work, the method of asymptotic expansion of the Kelvin source is applied to obtain a new wave resistance formulation in fluid of finite depth. It takes a simple form than existing theory.

  • As automotive diesel engines adopt the direct injection method for a lower level of the exhaust emission and a higher fuel efficiency, the maximum temperature of engine coolant decreases. Consequently, the total available heat source from the engine coolant decreases over 35%. However, the heating source of air-conditioning system in automobiles depends on the hot engine coolant completely, so that it is nearly impossible to control air conditioning in heating season. Therefore, the present study has been carried out to develop the air conditioning system for the high efficient heat pump type using the HFC-134a. Especially, the air conditioning system of heating has been developed at a beginning stage, when it has low heat source from small and medium sized diesel recreation vehicles. To develop a control logic system for air conditioning system which is a heat pump type with a heat recovery exchanger, its cycle characteristics has been investigated according to the opening of LEV at a bench system.

  • This research studies thermo-elastic behavior of rotating micro discs that are employed in various micro devices such as micro gas turbines. It is assumed that material is functionally graded with a variable profile thickness, density, shear modulus and thermal expansion in terms of radius of micro disc and as a power law function. Boundary condition is considered fixed-free with uniform thermal loading and elastic field is symmetric. Using incompressible material's constitutive equation, we extract governing differential equation of four orders; to solution this equation, we utilize general differential quadrature (GDQ) method and the results are schematically pictured. The obtained result in a particular case is compared with another work and coincidence of results is shown. We will find out that surface effect tends to split micro disc's area to compressive and tensile while nonlocal parameter tries to converge different behaviors with each other; this convergence feature make FGIMs capable to resist in high temperature and so in terms of thermo-elastic behavior we can suggest, using FGIMs in micro devices such as micro turbines (under glass transition temperature).

  • The NMR chemical shift arising from 4d electron angular momentum and 4d electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interaction for a $4d^1$ system in a strong crystal field of octahedral symmetry, when the threefold axis is chosen as the quantization axis, has been investigated. A general expression using a nonmultipole expansion method is derived for the NMR chemical shift. From this expression all the multipolar terms are determined. We find that the nonmultipolar results for the NMR chemical shift ${\Delta}B$, is exactly in agreement with the multipolar results when $R {\ge} 0.20$ nm. It is also found that the 1/$R^7$ term contributes to the NMR chemical shift almost the same as the 1/$R^5$ in magnitude. The temperature dependence analysis of ${\Delta}B$/B(ppm) at various values of R shows that the 1/$T^2$ term has the dominant contribution to the NMR chemical shift but the contributions of other two terms are certainly significant for a $4d^1$ system in a strong crystal field of octahedral symmetry when the threefold axis is chosen to be the axis of quantization.

  • In a Direct Connect(DC) mode altitude engine test, a labyrinth seal is set up between an air intake duct and an engine. The labyrinth seal plays a key role in mechanically isolating them, which contributes to the accurate measurement of thrust and the other component forces. However, when high vertical temperature gradient is generated in the supplied air in the duct, the isolation breaks down. In this paper, a labyrinth seal control device is designed and installed in an effort to eliminate the issue. Test result shows the device successfully gets rid of the contact problem even when high vertical temperature gradient is produced.

  • The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue(HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.

  • Power-take-off through inner dynamic system inside a floating buoy is suggested. The power take-off system is characterized by mass, stiffness, and damping and generates power through the relative heave motion between the buoy and inner mass (magnet or amateur). A systematic hydrodynamic theory is developed for the suggested WEC and the developed theory is illustrated by a case study. A vertical truncated cylinder is selected as a buoy and the optimal condition of the inner dynamic system for maximum PTO (power take off) through double resonance for the given wave condition is systematically investigated. Through the case study, it is seen that the maximum power can actually be obtained at the optimal spring and damper condition, as predicted by the developed WEC theory. However, the band-width of high performance region is not necessarily the greatest at the optimal (maximum-power-take-off) condition, so it has to be taken into consideration in the actual design of the WEC.

  • Along with shortening the life cycle of software utilization and supporting various types of user functions, the importance of software architecture development has been emphasized recently. If a software architecture is developed flexibly and reliably for expansion to support new functionality, it can quickly cope with new market demands. This paper proposes an architecture design method based on design recovery of open source software to reuse the software in the development of sustainable software system. When using open source software to develop a software system based on software architecture, we can develop a software system rapidly and also can improve the reliability of the system because we use the already proven open source software in the development.

  • There has been several meaning full efforts to save costs on system development and expand the life-time of a system in changeful IT circumstance. It was a module-based architecture that empower productivity at structured programming era. But it couldn't grow nor evolve, but could raise only calling frequency of module. But OOP or OO-method overcome limit of structured programing by class inheritance and/or overloading and/or over-riding. A component centric architecture, what is mixture of distributed systems, like CORBA or DCOM with OOP, can support not only high reusability or expansion of life-time but also Plug-&-Play between them. To assemble these component to build a new system in easy way, the well-formed specification of a component is highly required. At this study, the enhanced referential component architecture and its UML specification will be suggested.
