  • Various studies and business investments have been performed on UAV in the field of spatial information industry, and it is judged that this industry has being evolved into an expansion stage as a legalization progresses. In addition, public institutions such as Korea Land and Geospatial Information Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation which have relatively much utilized spatial information work have entered into the stage of settling with active introduction for reasons of work efficiency and business management. However, surveying drones are still classified as expensive equipment, which is a burden on general business application and technology popularization. Moreover, the stabilization of reliability of various location information acquired from UAV is a part of ongoing research and supplementation. Therefore, in this study, to use image information acquired from low-cost UAV as reliable spatial information data, the flight altitude was changed and compared with the result of double transverse flight with conventional photographing technique. As a result, there was no change in the result value at low altitude, but the result showed more than 30% accuracy and accuracy improvement for the X, Y value at the altitude of 130m or higher than the conventional method.

  • Most of numerical models for studying tide-induced residual currents (TIRC) were to dimensional depth averaged models which were confined to anlayze the horizontal structure of TIRC. In this study, TIRC occurring around a circular island was simulated with the three-dimensional spectral model which employed by the finite difference method in the horizontal direction and the expansion of basis function in the vertical direction. The main results of numerical experiment can be summarized as follows. Firstly. both topographic and nonlinear effect played an important role in the generation of TIRC. Secondly, when the currents were rotary clockwise. the horizontal structure of TIRC appeared to rotate in the same direction. These results were consistent with those of previous studies of two-dimensional numerical models.

  • The method, which is introduced here, is an approximation derived by an application of the slender body theory, which has achieved a great success in the field of aeronautical engineering. However numerical results for wave resistance by this theory have been very disappointing. A slender body formulation for a ship in uniform forward motion si presented. It is based on the asymptotic expansion of the Kelvin source and the result is quite different from the existing slender ship theory developed by Vossers, Tuck and Maruo. It is equivalent to an approximation for the kernel function of the Neumann-Kelvin problem which assumes the linearized free surface condition but deals with the body boundary condition in its exact from. The velocity field and pressure distribution can be calculated simply by the differentiation of the two-dimensional velocity potential. A formula for the wave resistance of slender ships is also presented.

  • In this paper, the variable tendency piezoelectric constant and resonance characteristics piezoelectric ceramics due to the electric field is studied. The practical application of piezoelectric ceramics is not only applied in field of small signal. For example, in case of an ultrasonic motor, $120{\sim}130Vrms$ of driving voltage is needed and that of an piezoelectric pump, $200{\sim}220Vrms$ of voltage is required. Therefore, to examine the characteristics of piezoelectric ceramics in large signal contributes to reducing the susceptibility to the multifarious application and securing the ease of the production of control circuit. These contributions may be connected to the expansion of industrial application. We fabricated disk-type piezoelectric ceramic samples by using conventional method and measured the resonance characteristics of these samples under from low to high voltage driving conditions. According to increasing the value of the input voltage, we measured the resonance frequency of the piezoelectric ceramic, and inquired into the cause of these phenomena.

  • The purpose of this study is to make an economic analysis of power plant utilities by examining electricity generating costs with environmental consideration. Economic growth has caused pollutant emission, and subsequent environmental pollution has been identified as a very real limit to sustainable development. Considering the enormous role of electricity in the national economy, it is thus very important to study the effect of environmental regulations on the electricity sector. Because power utilities need large investments during construction, operation and maintenance, and also require much construction lead time. Economic analysis is the very important process in the electric system expansion planning. In this study, the levelized generation cost method is used in comparing economic analysis of power plant utilities. Among the pollutants discharged of the electricity sector, this study principally deals with the control activities related only to $CO_2$, and $NO_2$, since the control cost of $SO_2$, and TSP (Total Suspended Particulates) is already included in the construction cost of utilities. The cost of electricity generation in a coal-fired power plant is compared with one in an LNG combined cycle power plant. Moreover this study surveys the sensitivity of fuel price, interest rate and carbon tax. In each case, this sensitivity can help to decide which utility is economically justified in the circumstance of environmental regulations.

  • This paper focuses on an analytical research on the critical buckling load of cylindrical shells with stepwise variable wall thickness under axial compression. An arctan function is established to describe the thickness variation along the axial direction of this kind of cylindrical shells accurately. By using the methods of separation of variables, small parameter perturbation and Fourier series expansion, analytical formulas of the critical buckling load of cylindrical shells with arbitrary axisymmetric thickness variation under axial compression are derived. The analysis is based on the thin shell theory. Analytic results show that the critical buckling load of the uniform shell with constant thickness obtained from this paper is identical with the classical solution. Two important cases of thickness variation pattern are also investigated with these analytical formulas and the results coincide well with those obtained from other authors. The cylindrical shells with stepwise variable wall thickness, which are widely used in actual engineering, are studied by this method and the analytical formulas of critical buckling load under axial compression are obtained. Furthermore, an example is presented to illustrate the effects of each strake's length and thickness on the critical buckling load.

  • In this paper, the structural health monitoring (SHM) benchmark problem of the Canton tower is studied. Based on the field monitoring data from the 20 accelerometers deployed on the tower, some modal frequencies and mode shapes at measured degrees of freedom of the tower are identified. Then, these identified incomplete modal data are used to update the reduced finite element (FE) model of the tower by a novel algorithm. The proposed algorithm avoids the problem of subjective selection of updated parameters and directly updates model stiffness matrix without model reduction or modal expansion approach. Only the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the normal finite element models corresponding to the measured modes are needed in the computation procedures. The updated model not only possesses the measured modal frequencies and mode shapes but also preserves the modal frequencies and modes shapes in their normal values for the unobserved modes. Updating results including the natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared with the experimental ones to evaluate the proposed algorithm. Also, dynamic responses estimated from the updated FE model using remote senor locations are compared with the measurement ones to validate the convergence of the updated model.
