Post-translational covalent modifications by small molecules or peptides remodel target proteins. One such modification, made by ubiquitin or small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO), is a rapidly expanding field in cell signaling pathways. Ubiquitin attachment controls the turnover and degradation of target proteins while SUMO conjugation regulates their activity and function. Recent studies report many examples of cross-talk between ubiquitin and SUMO pathways, indicating that the boundary is no longer clear. Here, we review recent progress concerning how ubiquitin and SUMO participate in new regulatory roles in plant cell, and how ubiquitination and sumoylation control plant growth and development.

The prosperity of modern society is heavily depending on communication technology. Communication is now expanding its roles from personal convenience to social/industrial functioning. Photonics was first introduced to communication in longdistance transmission area since it provided wide bandwidth cost-effectively. However, nowadays, photonics is not only a harmonious collaborator with electronics, but has its own exclusive playgrounds in various parts of communication. Limit-zero network pursues a network that can provide abundant capacity and efficiency using very limited resources. Photonics is the most promising candidate to accomplish the goal. In this article, we review the current status and predict the future contributions of photonics to limit-zero network.

Genomic information stored in the DNA is transcribed to the mRNA and translated to proteins. The 3' untranslated regions (3'UTRs) of the mRNA serve pivotal roles in post-transcriptional gene expression, regulating mRNA stability, translation, and localization. Similar to DNA mutations producing aberrant proteins, RNA alterations expand the transcriptome landscape and change the cellular proteome. Recent global analyses reveal that many genes express various forms of altered RNAs, including 3'UTR length variants. Alternative polyadenylation and alternative splicing are involved in diversifying 3'UTRs, which could act as a hidden layer of eukaryotic gene expression control. In this review, we summarize the functions and regulations of 3'UTRs and elaborate on the generation and functional consequences of 3'UTR diversity. Given that dynamic 3'UTR length control contributes to phenotypic complexity, dysregulated 3'UTR diversity might be relevant to disease development, including cancers. Thus, 3'UTR diversity in cancer could open exciting new research areas and provide avenues for novel cancer theragnostics.

Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) is an effective and secure means to enable direct collaboration between people who want to achieve common goals in a digital environment, where believing each other without intermediaries from trusted third parties is difficult. DAO can flexibly implement most of the roles previously performed by existing organizations and finally aim for a new structure that functions independently without human intervention. Despite its technical and legal uncertainties and problems, DAO is rapidly expanding. This study examines trends such as the concept, use cases, participation methods, and deficiencies of DAO, which is called the future of work and helps to understand upcoming considerations.

In recent years, virtual reality (VR) technology has been widely used in many industrial fields, especially in the fields of medical treatment, games, film and television, to improve the interaction between medical teaching and practical treatment. On the gaming side, the production of virtual reality gaming screens and scenes became increasingly popular, greatly expanding the form of the visual experience. But VR is no longer confined to the health care, education and entertainment industries. During this time, the news media industry has also begun to integrate virtual reality into interviews and user interactions. This study aims to analyze the development of VR technology from the perspectives of immersive VR news experience, real reporting, and prospects, and analyze and think about the interactive participation of media users, the transformation of traditional media, and the upgrading of practitioners' roles.

Centrosome abnormalities are hallmarks of human cancers. Structural and numerical centrosome abnormalities correlate with tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis, implicating that centrosome abnormalities could be a cause of tumorigenesis. Since Boveri made his pioneering recognition of the potential causal link between centrosome abnormalities and cancer more than a century ago, there has been significant progress in the field. Here, we review recent advances in the understanding of the causes and consequences of centrosome abnormalities and their connection to cancers. Centrosome abnormalities can drive the initiation and progression of cancers in multiple ways. For example, they can generate chromosome instability through abnormal mitosis, accelerating cancer genome evolution. Remarkably, it is becoming clear that the mechanisms by which centrosome abnormalities promote several steps of tumorigenesis are far beyond what Boveri had initially envisioned. We highlight various cancer-promoting mechanisms exerted by cells with centrosome abnormalities and how these cells possessing oncogenic potential can be monitored.

Franchise store retailing is taking on ever greater roles in business and commerce in China. The diverse product range, small-batch order, high frequency and time-specific requirements inherent in retail logistics make it the most complicated of all categories of logistics. In franchise store retailing, expanding business scales make trans-regional development a trend. Without a well-functioning logistic system, the standardized delivery of products would be held back, impacting trans-regional development strategy and operational costs. Therefore, the efficiency of franchise store retailing largely depends on logistical efficiency. The integrated and streamlined management of franchise stores depends in large measure on their logistical centers. As such, logistical centers constitute the key link and bears on core competitiveness in franchise store retailing. This thesis begins with an analysis of the current developments and four basic logistical models of franchise store retailing in China, proceeds to summarize developmental trends as well as focal issues and proposes an efficiency enhancing plan.

Present-day organizations have become largely dependent on mobile instant messaging services (MIMs) for various organizational purposes. Focusing on the increasing use of MIMs in today's organizations, this study aims to explain how different aspects of KakaoTalk, the most dominant MIM in Korea, influence employees' attitudes toward their current employers, and how these attitudes impact the employees' intentions to stay at their present workplaces. Overall, with the exception of one factor (satisfaction with KakaoTalk use), all other factors (perceived quality of information exchanged through KakaoTalk, belongingness through KakaoTalk, and KakaoTalk overload) significantly influenced employee's attractiveness toward their current employers. Specifically, while KakaoTalk overload's effect on perceived organizational attractiveness was negative, two other factors were positively associated with it. Perceived organizational attractiveness also strongly influenced employees' intention to stay at their present workplaces. These findings contribute to expanding practical and theoretical understandings regarding the critical roles of MIMs in the efficient management of organizations in this hyperconnected society.

What is individuals' privacy notion, and does it change with the social roles taken up by them? We explored these questions using a qualitative interpretive research approach. We found that individuals have mixed notion of privacy. Individuals view privacy either as a commodity or as a control. Further, we found that an individual's privacy notion is a function of their social role within the society and their privacy preferences. Our research points to the importance of expanding the notion of privacy to encompass a broader understanding of privacy preferences. We theorize our findings using social penetration theory and presents a privacy model which provides the logical framework for interpreting people's views on privacy.

본 연구는 정보화마을사업의 주민참여 수준을 고려하여 향후 사업방향성에 부합하면서 주민참여의 확대 가능성을 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 정보화마을사업의 추진 및 운영주체들을 대상으로 주민참여 수준을 기준으로 각 주체별 현재와 향후 중요성에 대한 인식을 조사하였다. 분석결과 '마을'의 중요성을 가장 크게 인식하는 것으로 나타났는데 이는 사업의 방향성에 부합하는 것으로 향후 사업의 안정적 운영 및 지속적 추진 가능성을 예측하는데 중요한 근거를 보여준다. 그러나 이에 못지않게 시군구, 시도, 행정자치부 등 정부단위의 역할 역시 중요하게 여기는 것으로 나타났는데 이는 주민참여 중심이라는 사업의 방향성과는 상이한 것으로 사업 추진 시 혼란과 갈등을 야기시킬 수 있는 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 추진 및 운영주체에 대한 역할 평가를 통해 향후 자율적이며 자립적인 마을로 발전시키기 위하여 어떻게 정보화마을사업의 방향성을 가져가야할지 시사점을 도출하여 제시하였다.
