  • Thermostable property is one of most important characteristics of graphite. Commercial graphites sheet from expanded graphite is using for high-temperature elements. Nowadays the new plant with high performance is developed in field of chemical industries, so the need of graphites is increasing rapidly. In this paper, the thermostable properties of newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated. I introduced the graphite material which developed for these heat tests by NGF method in order to test thermostable properties by comparing to the results of the commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite in same condition. Through measuring the weight reducing ratio with various specimens in some conditions, I investigated the thermostable characteristics of these materials. It is verified that the graphite products by NGF method has almost same or superior thermostable properties comparing with that of commercial graphite sheet. Also the graphite products by NGF method have possibility of being better in thermostable properties.

  • Expanded graphites were used as anode materials of high power Li-ion secondary battery. The expanded graphite was prepared by mixing the graphite with $HClO_4$ as a intercalation agents and $KMnO_4$ as a oxidizing agents. The physical and electrochemical properties of prepared expanded graphites through the variation of process variables such as contents of intercalation agent and oxidizing agent, and heat treatment temperature were analyzed for determination of optimal conditions as the anode of high power Li-ion secondary battery. After examing the electrochemical properties of expanded graphites at the different preparing conditions, the optimal conditions of expanded graphite were selected as 8 wt.% of oxidizing agent, 400 g of intercalation agent for 20 g of natural graphite, and heat treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$. The sample showed the improved charge/discharge characteristics such as 432 mAh/g of initial reversible capacity, 88% of discharge rate capability at 10 C-rate, and 24 mAh/g of charge capacity at 10 C-rate. However, the expanded graphite had the problems of potential plateaus like natural graphite and lower initial efficiency than the natural graphite.

  • Graphites is well known to have superior advantages to high-temperature, high-pressured, and strong acid-state gas or liquid because it is very stable and chemical structure. Nowadays the new plant with high performance is developed in field of chemical industries, so the need of graphites is increasing rapidly. In this paper, newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated by the mechanical properties of that. I introduced the graphite material which developed for this experiment by the forming process in order to compare to the commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite which made by the rolling process. Through measuring density and hardness test also tensile test, I investigated the characteristics of these materials. It is verified that the newly developed graphite products forming method is able to make graphite products which have superior mechanical properties than that of commercial graphite sheet.

  • Expanded graphite/carbon fiber hybrid conductive polymer composites were fabricated by the preform molding technique. The conductive fillers were mechanically mixed with a phenol resin to provide an electrical property to composites. The conductive filler loading was fixed at 60wt.% to accomplish a high electrical conductivity. Expanded graphites were excellent in forming a conductive networking by direct contacts between them while it was hard to get the high flexural strength over 40MPa with using only expanded graphite and phenol resin. In this study, carbon fibers were added in composites to compensate the weakened flexural strength. The effect of carbon fibers on the mechanical and electrical properties was examined according to the weight ratio of carbon fiber. As the carbon fiber ratio increased, the flexural strength increased until the carbon fiber ratio of 24wt.%, and then decreased afterward. The electrical conductivity gradually decreased as the increase of the carbon fiber ratio. This was attributed to the non-conducting regions generated among the carbon fibers and the reduction of the direct contact areas between expanded graphites.

  • A series of expanded graphites is prepared from graphite oxide by changing the heat-treatment temperature, and their lithiation/de-lithiation mechanism and rate performance are examined. A featureless sloping profile is observed in their charge-discharge voltage and dilatometry profiles, which is contrasted by the stepwise plateau-like profiles observed with the pristine graphite. With an increase in the heat-treatment temperature from $250^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$, the interlayer distance becomes smaller whereas the electric conductivity becomes larger, both of which are resulted from a removal of foreign atoms (mainly oxygen) from the interlayer gaps. The expanded graphite that is prepared by a heat-treatment at $450^{\circ}C$ delivers the best rate performance, which seems to be a trade-off between the $Li^+$ ion diffusivity that is affected by the interlayer distance and electrical conductivity.

  • The various expanded graphites (EGs) was prepared and applied as anode material for high power Li-ion secondary battery (LIB). By changing the processing conditions of EG, a series of EG with different structure were produced, showing the changed electrochemical properties. The charge-discharge test showed that the initial reversible capacity of EG anodes prepared at the suitable conditions was over 400 mAh/g and the charge capacity at 5 C-rate was 83.2 mAh/g. These values demonstrated the much improved electrochemical properties as compared with those for the graphite anode of 360 mAh/g and 19.4 mAh/g, respectively, showing the possibility of EG anode materials for high power LIB.
