  • In this study, the performance prediction programs for centrifugal pumps are developed. To estimate the losses in the centrifugal pump impellers, two-zone model and TEIS(two elements in series) model are applied to the program. The basic concept of two zone model considers the primary zone that is an isentropic core flow and the secondary zone that is non-isentropic region at the impeller exit. The flows through two different zones mixed out at the impeller exit and the mixing process occurs with an increase in entropy, a decrease in total pressure. The level of the core flow diffusion in a impeller was calculated using TEIS(two elements in series) model. The effects of various parameters which are used in this program on the prediction of head and efficiency are discussed. The correlation curves to select the effectiveness of the primitive TEIS model were suggested according to the specific speed of the centrifugal pumps.

  • An experimental study was carried out with an aerated nozzle. This nozzle was well known that the performance of the atomization is better than other ones even though the supplied air pressure is lower than that of them. The purpose of this investigation is to provide the essential information of the aerated nozzle from the nozzle exit. The experimental work was performed in order to analyze the characteristics of the overall flow field from the nozzle exit. The 2-D PDPA system was used to acquire the data in the concerned region. The characteristics of the mean velocity distribution, half-width, and SMD were mainly analyzed. Also the correlation between turbulent kinetic energy and SMD was described with ALR.

  • The flow characteristics of synthetic jet depending on rectangular and circular jet exit configuration are investigated using numerical computation with cross flow. In rectangular slot, synthetic jet generates the strong vortex, however, supply fewer momentum and effectiveness of flow control is reduced along flow direction. In circular slot, regular vortex is fanned from slot center to end and developed in flow direction. It affects the wider region than rectangular slot. The distribution of wall shear stress is considered in order to indicate the effectiveness of flow control device for flow separation delay. As a result, circular slot is a more suitable candidate for delaying flow separation.

  • The flow field measurements were conducted on the planes between impeller blades, and the gap between the impeller and turbine blades under speed ratio of 0.4. The study showed that high velocity regions move from locations near the suction surface of the impeller to the pressure blade, shroud corner as flow progresses from the mid-chord of impeller passage to exit and out into the gap region. Planes 3 through 5 also showed flow reversal occurring in the area near the shell surface and progress far into the impeller passage from the impeller passage exit, near shell surface. This affected the converter efficiency negatively. This study would aid in the construction of higher accuracy CFD models of this complex turbomachinery device.

  • The effect of secondary flow on both methane/air and propane/air premixed flame was investigated experimentally. By changing the radius of curvature, various flame behavior was observed. In the V-bend nozzles, flame surface is deformed from axisymmetry. As the exit velocity increased, flame lifted off partially. When the radius of curvature of the V-bend increased, the region where premixed flame is entirely on the rim increased. Since the axial velocity field is changed due to the secondary flow effect, comparison of V-bend and straight tube with the same diameter shows larger V-bend nozzle exit velocity for both flash back and flame blowout. The flame characteristics are mapped with a equivalence ratio, a velocity, and a nozzle radius of curvature. To identify physical reasoning on the flame surface deformation, numerical calculations are conducted. OH radical distributions in flames are visualized by PLIF technique.

  • The objective of this work is to study various vortical structures from controlled circular jet such as trifurcating and blooming jets. The numerical simulations of flow from a circular jet are carried out at $Re_D=4300$ based on the jet-exit velocity and jet diameter using large eddy simulation with the dynamic Smagorinsky model in a cylindrical coordinate system. The excitation for the controlled jet is achieved by combining axial and helical excitations. The axial velocity controlled by blowing and suction at the jet exit has several peaks in their cycle with respect to ratio of axial to helical excitations. This active control changes the spreading angle and vortical structures in the downstream region.

  • This paper analyzed characteristic of temperature change as well as bottom of tunnel with thermometer according to tunnel length and region during one year. And it measured temperature distribution near tunnel portal. In the paper it was known that tunnel entrance and exit have different characteristic temperature distribution in accordiance with bottom of tunnel per tunnel length. Temperature of tunnel changed from tunnel exit to fifty meter and distribution of tunnel temperature was established uniform regardless of tunnel length. But temperature distribution of tunnel changed in tunnel entrance differ from tunnel exit in the location of one hundred twenty five meter and one hundred fifty meter. Cold air inflowed from tunnel entrance have influenced with the location of one hundred twenty five meter and one hundred fifty meter.

  • The flow characteristics of synthetic jet depending on rectangular and circular jet exit configuration are investigated using numerical computation with cross flow. In rectangular slot, synthetic jet generates the strong vortex but supplies fewer momentum and effectiveness of flow control is reduced along flow direction. In circular slot, regular vortex is formed from slot center to end. It affects the wider region than rectangular slot. The distribution of wall shear stress is considered in order to indicate the effectiveness of flow control device for flow separation delay. Consequently, circular slot is a more suitable candidate for delaying flow separation. In order to derive the optimal shape of a circular slot exit, hole gap and diameter that affect the flow structure and flow control were analyzed. As a result, consider the hole diameter and gap of circular slot exit design, effectiveness of the flow control can be increased.

  • In this study, the NOx formation characteristics of one-dimensional $CH_4$/Air premixed flame using detailed-kinetic chemistry are examined numerically. The combustor length and the amount of heat loss are varied to investigate the effect of residence time and heat loss on the NOx formation in a post-flame region. In the flame region, NO is mainly produced by the Prompt NO mechanism including $N_2$O-intermediate NO mechanism over all equivalence ratios. However, thermal NO mechanism is more important than Prompt NO mechanism in the post-flame region. In the case of adiabatic condition, the increase of combustor length causes the remarkable increase of NO emission at the exit due to the increase of residence time. On the other hand, NO reaches the equilibrium state in the vicinity of flame region, considering radiation and conduction heat losses. Furthermore the NO, in the case of $\phi$=1.2, is gradually reduced in the downstream region as the heat loss is increased. From these results, it can be concluded that the controls of residence time and heat loss in a combustor should be recognized as an important NOx reduction technology.
