  • In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a cost-effective technique to upgrade the capacity of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks to a 40 Gb/s line rate using the existing 10 Gb/s-based infrastructure. To accommodate 40 Gb/s over the link optimized for 10 Gb/s, we propose applying a combination of super-FEC, carrier-suppressed return-to-zero, and pre-emphasis to the 40 Gb/s transponder. The transmission of 40 Gb/s DWDM channels over existing 10 Gb/s line-rate long-haul DWDM links, including $40{\times}40$ Gb/s transmission over KT's standard single-mode fiber optimized for 10 Gb/s achieves successful results. The proposed upgrading technique allows the Q-value margin for a 40 Gb/s line rate to be compatible with that of 10 Gb/s.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) selfie services, one of the major 3D printing services, print 3D models of an individual's face via scanning. However, most of these services require expensive full-color supporting 3D printers. The high cost of such printers poses a challenge in launching a variety of 3D printing application services. This paper presents a stencil-based 3D facial relief creation method employing a low-cost RGBD sensor and a 3D printer. Stencil-based 3D facial relief is an artwork in which some parts are holes, similar to that in a stencil, and other parts stand out, as in a relief. The proposed method creates a new type of relief by combining the existing stencil techniques and relief techniques. As a result, the 3D printed product resembles a two-colored object rather than a one-colored object even when a monochrome 3D printer is used. Unlike existing personalization-based 3D printing services, the proposed method enables the printing and delivery of products to customers in a short period of time. Experimental results reveal that, compared to existing 3D selfie products printed by monochrome 3D printers, our products have a higher degree of similarity and are more profitable.

  • Accidental falls frequently occur during activities of daily living. Although many studies have proposed various accident detection methods, no high-performance accident detection system is available. In this study, we propose a method for integrating data and accident detection algorithms presented in existing studies, collect new data (from two stunt performers and 15 people over age 60) using a developed wearable device, demonstrate new features and related accident detection algorithms, and analyze the performance of the proposed method against existing methods. Comparative analysis results show that the newly defined features extracted reflect more important risk factors than those used in existing studies. Further, although the traditional algorithms applied to integrated data achieved an accuracy (AC) of 79.5% and a false positive rate (FPR) of 19.4%, the proposed accident detection algorithms achieved 97.8% AC and 2.9% FPR. The high AC and low FPR for accidental falls indicate that the proposed method exhibits a considerable advancement toward developing a commercial accident detection system.

  • The purpose of this paper was to provide an overview of the existing literature on online visual merchandising and to propose an alternative theoretical framework in which online visual merchandising research can be conducted. Two streams of research including the e-tail service quality literature and the store environment literature from environmental psychology perspectives were reviewed in the context of online visual merchandising. An impression formation paradigm from social psychology was adopted to establish the alternative framework to supplement the existing online visual merchandising research and generate deeper insights into the online visual merchandising phenomenon.

  • The existing flow regime map on mixed convection in vertical cylinders was investigated through an analysis of original literatures and its re-formation. The original literatures related to the existing map were reviewed. Using the investigated data and heat transfer correlations, the map was redrawn independently, and compared with the existing map. The redrawn map showed that mixed convection regime was not curved lines but straight lines and the transition regime was unable to be reproduced. Unlike the existing map with a little data, there are lots of data in the redrawn map. The reviews revealed that the existing map used the data selectively among the experimental and theoretical results, and a detailed description for lines forming mixed convection and transition regime was not provided. While considerable studies on mixed convection have been performed since that of Metais and Eckert, the existing map has still been used as the best method to distinguish natural, forced and mixed convection regime.

  • The enlargement of existing tunnels is required to cope with problems related to traffic congestion. Sometimes, the tunnel traffic must be maintained through existing tunnels during their reconstruction due to non-availability of detours. And excavation by drill and blasting is desired for widening a hard rock tunnel. In this case, the road must be closed for some period for blasting through analyzing of traffic volume. In this paper, a case study on some traffic countermeasures for tunnel enlargement by blasting was performed. And the traffic flow characteristics of some tunnels in domestic main city were analyzed.

  • As issues on light pollution is being raised recently, movements to prevent light pollution is being implemented by each local government, such as by enforcing the Light Pollution Act from February 2013, in order to require compliance with the light-emitting permission level of existing lighting facilities. However, despite the regulations, no specific measures on products are being prepared. Thus, this Research has designed a light shield as a measure to minimize the burden of the effectiveness and time required for development and the burden of the cost necessary to re-install existing light facilities in its entirety and reviewed the effect of the measure through the BUG ratings.

  • We consider an overlaid broadcast service, where a spread spectrum (SS)-based broadcast signal is overlaid onto the existing terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) band. The system is similar to the augmented data transmission in the ATSC DTV, for which it was investigated mostly in terms of link level performance, such as bit error rate. Our focus in this paper is on the system-level performances. More specifically, utilizing both a large scale path loss and a small scale fading channel model, the primary objective is to explore the tradeoff between the coverage and the achievable rate of the overlaid service and, finally, to determine the achievable rate in the overlaid service for marginal coverage reduction in the existing broadcast service. The analytical and simulation results show that an SS-based add-on service of 10 kbps to 20 kbps can co-exist with the T-DMB service while resulting in only a marginal degradation in T-DMB coverage (for example, less than one percent reduction).

  • This paper is intended to investigate the Build-up Method of SCM(Supply Chain Management) Connection applying EC Standard. SCM helps companies plan and supply to meet customer demand. SCM is the only solution available today that enables an organization to strategize, plan and execute a company's buy, make, move, store, fulfill and service business processes across multiple enterprises for total profitability. The research of modern scientists has thrown new light on the subject. However, the study of SCM for EC Standard has been strangely neglected by critics. Consequently, existing SCM systems, which require to introduce the functions of EC, need to be changed. Summarizations of the main points that have been analyzed in this paper are as follows:. the sharing information for connection and the Rosetta-net standard of the existing SCM system(Order management module(PIP 3A4) of the Rosetta-net specifications for connection by the Rosetta-net). Finally, it shows the process of the gateway for connecting among the existing SCM systems.
