Most existing residential environment of disabled people has made them exposed to the risk of safety accidents, and therefore hinders their independent living. In this regard, the importance of desirable residential environment has emerged. Some preceding studies have addressed the characteristics of disabled people's residential environment plan; however, the information on what environmental benefits are offered through such characteristics is insufficient. This study aims to analyze the housing design guidelines for disabled people in respect of the benefit of disabled people who are actual users. In this study, essential design guidelines for disabled people verified through expert workshop panel was analyzed based on user benefit theory. According to the study results, the total guidelines have the most characteristics supporting behavioral facilitation, and mainly consist of physiological maintenance characteristics related to disabled people's health and safety. Also, it is founded that environmental affordance essentially required depending on each spatial function was different. The ratio of physiological maintenance item is high in access route, unlike living room, kitchen and bed room where behavioral facilitation is especially emphasized. These findings can be utilized as basic data for customized residential environment plan to realize residential welfare for disabled people.
Because of their low operating and maintaining costs, ground-source heat pump(GSHP) systems are an increasingly popular choice for providing heating, cooling and water heating to public and commercial buildings. Despite these advantages and the growing awareness, GSHP systems to residential sectors have not been adopted in Korea until recently. A feasibility study of a residential GSHP system was therefore conducted using the traditional life cycle cost(LCC) analysis within the current electricity price framework and potential scenarios of that framework. As a result, when the current residential electricity costs for running the GSHP system are applied, the GSHP system has weak competitiveness to conventional HVAC systems considered. However, when the operating costs are calculated in the modified price frameworks of electricity, the residential GSHP system has the lower LCC than the existing cooling and heating equipments. The calculation results also show that the residential GSHP system has lower annual prime energy consumption and total greenhouse gas emissions than the alternative HVAC systems considered in this work.

Environmental noise in the residential area is appeared with different types and features along with the growth of society. In particular when the economic level is raised up, the demand of residents for the environmental noise becomes more sensitive. The existing research on the environmental noise was initiated in the 1980's and resulted that the children's jumping sound was most annoying among the noises transmitted from the other unit. This result caused such activities that the researches were focused on the floor impact noise and that the laws in relation to environmental noise within residential area were revised strictly. This study aimed to survey the consciousness of residents for the environmental noise and to see how it is changed comparing with the previous one. Ultimately this result could be useful to establish the target for research or noise control to make the comfortable residential environment.
This study was conducted to investigate the indiscriminate development occuring as a result of high-density land use per lot in residential areas of Seoul, which mainly consist of detached houses. The primary goals of this study were: (1) to suggest a block unit development method as an alternative architectural method of the current uniform development, in which high-rise and high-density apartments are usually built; and (2) to check the feasibility of the suggested method. Based on the analyses of the existing block composition types of residential areas, the prerequisite planning indices for applying a collective housing model were investigated. Subsequent to applying a collective housing type within each unit block, the collective housing model was analyzed. The results of the analyses showed that indiscriminate development was rampant in detached urban houses areas, and more than 70% of the buildings constructed before the 1980s needed re-development. The feasibility of the models was investigated depending on the models of low-rise and high-density collective housing, which utilize various block arrangements such as the court type, linear type, villa type, and composite type. The results of this study showed that the newly applied low-rise and highdensity multiple dwelling housing model in urban individual residential area significantly contributed to creating a good living environment in terms of both physical and psychological aspects.

The housing policy of Korea has been pushed with a focus on the middle-class. This contributed to alleviate the absolute lack problem of housing, but this program for the housing policy of low-income brackets is also true as insufficient attention. Thanks to Bulk supply-oriented housing policy, the rising penetration of housing and living conditions are improving as a whole, but low-income housing problem has been exacerbated by a relative. National and local government will solve the residential housing problem of low-income brackets by expanding welfare programs, but the quality of existing housing issues and the alternative policy are regarded as insufficient. Homeless households in Korea are still nearly 400 million, Housing costs higher than income weighted for buying a home and rent payments of low-income brackets. In this study, I investigated the concept of low-income housing welfare and housing policy changes. This paper is aimed to present the basic data through the investigation and analysis residential status of low-income brackets.
This study analyzes the social and cultural development process of tourism development in Banjar Nyuh-Kuning, a rural village in Bali, and the cultural practices of residential tourist in this area. The role of Banjar in the development of cultural tourism, especially the process of re-recognition of traditional discourse, became the main impetus for the prosperity of the village. For this purpose, the demands of residential tourists in the village and the role of local residents in their response is discussed. Residential tourist and village community experience the process of acculturation under one space, which provides an opportunity for each group to newly recognize tradition. In the end, the residential tourist in the villages provide an opportunity to reexamine tourism practices the stemmed from the concept of existing objectivism and constructivism authenticity. The perception of the authenticity of residential tourists a part of the ontological awareness resulting from everyday satisfactions and security in the course of experiencing tourism. The process of the development of Nyuh-Kuning village as a tourist attraction may be understood from the viewpoint of as a type of existential authenticity that the residential tourists acquire as they practice village traditions.
At the economical crisis of Korea in 1997, self-determined price for apartment and the revision increasing the ratio of residential area for mixed-use residential building were introduced to activate the construction industry, which causes construction companies to build super high rise apartment discriminative and high class orientated. This study aims to classify the super high rise building which is planned to build or built recently and to analyze the architectural characteristics. The objects are 288 unit households in 26 apartment complexes higher than twenty five story since 1998. As a result, super high rise building comparing with existing apartments were being varied in plan types of main building and unit household and in construction types. As for the plan, the number of walls having opening to outdoor were increased and it is considered that high rise building can take advantage of a view, lighting and sunshine. The location of living room that used to be in the center of unit in existing apartment was moved freely without rule.
A need for building energy efficiency is on the issue since energy demand in the building stock in Korea represents about 24% of the final energy consumption. As a way of improving the thermal performance of buildings for reducing maintenance costs and environmental conservation, a lot of effort is shown to improve the building energy efficiency by applying improvement of envelope insulation performance for buildings whose energy efficiency is low relatively through the remodeling. The windows of building envelopes are areas that lead to the biggest heat loss in the building. So windows are considered to be the primary target of energy efficiency in remodeling and various studies for windows have been done. Currently, however, only U-factor and airtightness of windows performance are regulated. Window wall ratio(WWR) and solar heat gain coefficient(SHGC) of windows are not considered when conducting the remodeling. In this study appropriate performance of windows(U-factor and SHGC) for existing residential is proposed according to the window wall ratio by using EnergyPlus. As the results of this study, the U-factor of windows representing the maximum energy savings is $1.0W/m^2K$ but in case of SHGC, the values that indicate the maximum energy savings are different depending on the window wall ratio. Therefore, when conducting the remodeling of windows, to determine energy efficiency by considering only the U-factor is inadequate so it is necessary that appropriate windows are applied to buildings by considering window wall ratio and windows properties(U-factor and SHGC).

Carbon neutrality refers to a state in which there is no global increase in CO2 emissions due to human activities. In Korea, for carbon neutrality, green remodeling of existing buildings and customized support tasks for zero energy in new buildings are presented. Germany is showing fundamental changes in energy supply, such as applying renewable energy and higher energy efficiency from nuclear and fossil fuels, which were the existing energy sources. In this study, how Germany establishes policies for carbon neutrality at each state level and the cases applied to increase the energy efficiency of the actually applied residential complexes are analyzed based on this. As a result of the case complex analysis, it was found that the construction direction was being promoted as a zero-energy complex or a carbon-neutral complex by gradually reducing the energy demand in buildings and supplying additional energy with new and renewable energy in the low-energy building distribution in the 1990s. In Germany's ecological complex, energy standards have been strengthened from low-energy architecture to plus-energy architecture over time, and annual heating energy consumption standards and heat transmittance rates for each structure have been achieved at a higher level. The results of this analysis will serve as basic data and derivation of applicable items when planning residential complex development and remodeling of existing buildings for the domestic carbon-neutral goal in the future.
The current study proposesto examine the external appearance types of urban-style hanok in the Bukchon Hanok Preservation District according to their use. For this purpose, we conducted a field survey from the 12th of September to 10th of October 2005, which investigated the location, condition md use of urban-style hanok that were being used for non-residential purposes. The external elevation of the houses were observed and photographed. The results are as follows. First, there were 158 urban-style hanok used for non-residential purposes and200 cases of non-residential use. There were 69 cases of food and beverage spaces, 58 cases of small retail businesses, 38 cases of cultural facilities and 7 cases of convenience facilities. Second, among residential urban-style hanok used for non-residential purposes, 131 cases changed the external appearance of existing urban-style hanok and only 69 cases maintained the original appearance of urban-style hanok or renovated the appearance fittingly to non-residential use. Among the renovated cases, 59 involved the construction of a firewall and 10 cases involved remodeling in a contemporary style. Among the transformed cases, 40 cases exhibited a full opening to the roadside, n involved the change of external appearance components, 14 involved the extension of the courtyard and 12 involved overall improvements to a contemporary style. Third, in the case of cultural facilities and offices, many instances reproduced an urban-style hanok in the traditional style, but small retail shops and food/beverage spaces showed serious deformation. Particularly small retail shops opened the side to the road or extended the courtyard regardless of the location of the houses in order to increase the store space and, as a result, severely damaged the urban-style hanok. In addition, many food/beverage spaces remodeled their external components using tiles, bricks or metals, which were easy to maintain.
