  • An on-board monitoring system for an automobile emission gas has a test chamber remote from the automobile's engine exhaust gas stream: apparatus for supplying the chamber with sampled exhaust gases. A single hydrocarbon sensor exposed to the exhaust gas in the chamber to render a signal responsive to the hydrocarbon. The conductive ions in emission gas was checked by the HC sensor in test chamber. A preferred application includes hydrocarbons in an automotive exhaust gas stream by exposing a transition porous alumina($Al_{2}O_{3}$) ceramic based sensor to the same exhaust gas stream. By combining the electrical signal, a measure of hydrocarbons can be provided.

  • 본 연구는 자동차 배기계 센서 구성품의 진동 안정성 해석에 관한 연구이다. 본 연구에서 자동차 시스템의 배기 가스 센서의 구조 설계 및 해석을 수행하였다. 1차적으로 자동차 배기 시스템의 구조 설계 요구 조건이 분석되었다. 구조 설계 이후 유한 요소 해석 기법을 활용하여 배기계 측정 센서 시스템의 구조 해석이 수행되었다. 고온 조건에서 진동 및 열응력 해석이 수행되었다. 최종 센서 시스템의 구조 시험을 수행한 후 해석 결과와 비교하였다. 구조 해석을 통해 설계된 센서 구성품은 안전한 것으로 확인되었다.

  • An oxygen sensor installed in vehicle exhaust systems enables to measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas, in which the measured data are collected and analyzed in ECU(Engine Control Unit). The oxygen sensor is exposed to the high speed exhaust gas at high temperature circumstance, so that protection caps are required not only to protect the susceptible measuring part, but also to provide the real time measurement without time delay. In this study, a new oxygen sensor with one protection cap was proposed, and the CFD analysis was carried out in order to compare the performance characteristics, such as flow speed and ratio of AOA(Age of Air), for the conventional and new oxygen sensor. The numerical results of CFD analysis provided the flow speed of 1.34m/s and the ratio of AOA of 3.43. The similar features obtained from the numerical results showed that the new oxygen sensor guarantees the same performance characteristics of the conventional ones.

구동중인 자동차 배기계의 진동 특성 측정 (Vibration Measurement of an Automobile Exhaust System in Operation)

  • In this work, the operational deflection shape(ODS) of an automobile exhaust system is measured by using a recently-developed magnetic sensor. The magnetic sensor is composed of a solenoid and two pairs of permanent magnets generating an antisymmetric magnetic field in the lateral direction inside the solenoid. Lateral movement of a ferromagnetic pipe inside the magnetic field of the suggested sensor induces an electromotive force in the solenoid corresponding to the lateral velocity of the pipe. Due to the simplicity and non-contact characteristics of the magnetic sensor, dynamic behaviors of the structures operating under high temperature such as an exhaust pipe can be efficiently observed. It is shown that the lateral ODS of an exhaust system can be successfully measured by the suggested sensors.

  • In this study, structural design of exhaust gas sensor of automobile was performed. In order to evaluate the structural design of the measurement sensor, the structural analysis was performed by the finite element method. The vibration and thermal stress analysis was carried out at the high temperature condition. Finally, the structural test of sensor system was performed, and used for comparison with the analyzed model. Through the structural analysis and test, it is confirmed that the designed measurement sensor structure is acceptable.

  • In this study the leakage current measurement method based on a porous ceramic is applied to check the conductive substance caused by the ionized particles. By using engine and chassis dynamometer and an experiment vehicle, in which the hydrocarbon sensor (HC sensor) was exposed to the exhaust gas to create the electrical signal, the HC sensor in the exhaust line checked the conductive ions in emission gas. Generally the output electrical signal of HC sensor is followed with amount of hydrocarbon in the experiments in cold start and operation. By combining the electrical signal, a measure of conductivity of exhaust gas with hydrocarbon can be provided by OBD (On Board Diagnosis) II and EMS (Engine Management System).

무창돈사를 위한 컨트롤러 일체형 환기팬 개발 (Development of Exhaust Fan with an Embedded Controller for Windowless Swine Housing)

  • 본 연구는 무창돈사에서 최적 환경조절이 가능한 시스템을 구축하고자 환경조절이 가능한 모형돈사를 제작하여 온도분포특성을 분석하고 ICT 융합기술을 활용한 온도센서 위치 최적화 및 컨트롤 일체형 환기팬을 개발하고자 하였다. 팬 상부에 부착된 센서에 의해 측정된 온도는 다른 측점온도보다 1℃ 내의 낮은 온도차를 나타내어 측정오차를 고려할 때 온도센서가 팬 상부에 위치하여도 문제가 없을 것으로 판단되었다. 환기팬 성능은 최대 출력일 때 회전수 1920rpm, 송풍량 125㎥/min로 나타났으며, 최대 효율은 개방면적비 약 70%를 고려할 경우 사용된 환기팬의 적정 송풍량은 75㎥/min에 60pa로 나타났다. 댐퍼의 개방면적비가 약 70%일 때 환기팬의 동력과 상관없이 최대효율을 나타내었다. 팬의 출력별 회전수는 출력 100%일 때 최대 1,920rpm으로 나타났으며, 컨트롤러의 펄스 듀티비를 변화시킴에 따라 AC 출력 위상이 지연 없이 변화하는 것으로 나타나 빠른 응답속도로 팬 속도조절이 가능한 것으로 판단되었다.

가스보일러 일산화탄소 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Control of the Exhaust CO from Gas Boiler)

  • 가정집 가스보일러 배기가스 조성에 대하여 열역학적 관점에서 해석하였고 일산화탄소 센서의 특성에 대하여 고찰하였다. 배기가스의 조성 측정으로부터 보일러 연소조건을 예측할 수 있음을 본 연구에서 제시하였다. 즉 배기가스중의 산소농도로부터 과잉 공기량을 예측할 수 있고, 배기가스중의 일산화탄소와 수소의 비율로부터 보일러 연소실 온도를 알 수 있다. 가정집에 설치되어 있는 보일러의 배기가스 조성 해석으로부터 과잉 공기량이 약 $55\~110\%$임을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 가정집 가스보일러에서 발생하는 일산화탄소는 연소가스의 유속구배에 의한 난류에 의한 국부냉각 또는 벽에 의한 국부냉각으로 등에 의하여 발생하는 것으로 사료된다. CO센서의 출력전압은 수소와 일산화탄소의 농도에 선형적으로 비례하며, 보일러에서 일산화탄소 발생을 CO센서와 연동제어로 감소시킬 수 있다.

  • To understand the signal fluctuation of a wide-range oxygen sensor installed at the exhaust confluence point, when a misfiring is triggered in a cylinder, the steady state and the transient response characteristics of the sensor to the flow of the misfired gas were investigated quantitatively. It was recognized that the steady state output voltage of the sensor increased higher when it contacted the misfired gas even though the fueling condition was the same as the normal combustion case and this characteristic enabled the application of the wide-range oxygen sensor for the misfire detection. The transient response was compared at different engine speeds and it was found that the response speed increased with the engine speed. The signal fluctuation was also estimated quantitatively, using these steady state and transient response of the sensor, and the estimated signal showed satisfactory correlation with the measurements.

노후 차량의 배기가스 측정을 이용한 산소센서, 인젝터, 점화2차파형의 파형분석 연구 (A Study on Waveform Analysis of Oxygen Sensor, Injector and Secondary Waveform through Emission Characteristics by a Decrepit Vehicle)

  • The experiment was done on cars travelling at the speeds of 20km/h, 60km/h and 100km/h using the performance testing mode for chassis dynamometer. In this experiment, the relativity between the secondary waveform coming from ignition coil and exhaust emissions were measured in case of cars with failures, in oxygen sensor, spark plugs. The following results obtained by analysis of the relativity between the secondary waveform and exhaust emissions. 1) When the oxygen sensor is failure, the average value of CO emission measured was 6.8 times higher than the standard CO emission value and the average value of HC emission measured was 2.3 times higher than the standard emission level. 2) When engine parts are in failure, more fuel enters the cylinder due to longer opening duration of injector, and it tended to make CO and HC emission values increase. 3) Combustion duration, the shape of flame propagation during spark line, and the size of the discharge-induced energy were the three main elements that directly cause variations in CO and HC emission values.
