Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the effects of exercise education for the people living in the area where health promotion program has been operated. Methods: The research had been investigated at a public health center located in ChungNam-Do from April to September in 2003. The subjects of the research were the visitors at a public health center who were willing to obtain the exercise education program and the visitors at other one. 142 people learned the health program at the health center and 72 people didn't do that. These two groups had taken tests such as health condition(SF-36). blood pressure and blood test for six months. Results: The educated group got better marks in the area of knowledge and attitude than non-educated one. The educated group showed increased exercise frequency by second survey. The health status of the educated group looked better after education than the non--educated group, but it was not significant statistically. The grade of knowledge and attitude for exercise was higher in the exercise group than in non-exercise group. The exercise frequency was increased in the exercise group at second survey. The change of health status was not different between exercise group and non- exercise group. Conclusions: According to the research the author found that the exercise education program was helpful for population to improve their exercise habits. It had supposed that the education of exercise and the exercise itself had benefit on health status. But It was not significant in this study with any methodological limitations. If the exercise education would performed more adequately and more persistently, its effects on health status will be more positive.
Objective: Psychomotor imagery has been widely used to improve motor performance and motor learning. Recent research suggests that during visualization, changes occur in neurophysiological networks that make physical practice more effective in configuring functional networks for skillful behaviors. The aim of our pilot study was to determine if there was change and to what extent there was differentiation in modulation in electroencephalography (EEG) frequencies between visualizing a state of rest and a state of exercise performance and to identify the preponderant frequency. Design: Quasi-experimental design uncontrolled before and after study. Methods: EEG brain wave activity was recorded from 0-40 Hz from nine cerebral cortical scalp regions F3, Fz, F4, C3, Cz, C4, P3, POz, and P4 with a wireless telemetric EEG system. The subjects, while sitting on a chair with eyes closed, were asked to visualize themselves in a state of routine rest/relaxation and after a period of time in a state of their routine exercise performance. Results: The gamma frequency, 31-40 Hz, (${\gamma}$) was the predominant wave band in differentiation between visualizing a state of rest versus visualizing a state of exercise performance. Conclusions: We suggest these preliminarily findings show the EEG electrocortical activity for athletes is differentially modulated during visualization of exercise performance in comparison to rest with a predominant ${\gamma}$ wave band frequency observed during the state of exercise. Further controlled experimental studies will be performed to elaborate these observations and delineate the significance to optimization of psychomotor exercise performance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise intention, exercise habit, exercise self-efficacy on exercise behavior with elders at welfare center. Methods: The subjects were 152 elders at the welfare center at J city. Data were collected using the questionnaires which consisted of the Exercise intention scale and the Exercise habit scale developed by Lee and Gu (2018), and the Exercise self-efficacy scale developed by Lee and Chang (2001). The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program, which was used for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, x2 test, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The regular exercise group consisted of 92 elders (62.5%) and the irregular exercise group of 60 elders (39.5%). The scores for exercise intention, exercise habits, exercise self-efficacy were 3.28±0.70, 3.92±0.61, 2.80±0.88 in regular exercise group, and 2.38±0.99, 3.00±1.07, 2.04±0.73 in irregular exercise group, respectively. Two groups were significantly different between the two groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that exercise intention (OR: 2.26, 95% CI:1.19~4.28), exercise habits (OR: 1.79, 95% CI:1.01~3.15), exercise self-efficacy (OR: 1.99, 95% CI:1.11~3.57) were affecting factors for regular exercise in elders. Conclusion: To increase the regular exercise behaviors of the elderly at the welfare center, it is needed the strategies to increase exercise intention, exercise self-efficacy, and exercise habits.
Falls are a major sources of death and injury in elderly people. Aged-related changes in the physiological systems which contribute to the maintenance of balance are well documented in older adults. These changes coupled with age-related changes in muscle and bone are likely to contribute to an increased risk of falls in this population. Regular exercise may be one way of preventing falls and fall-related fractures. However, the optimal exercise prescription to prevent falls has not yet been defined. On the literature review of exercise intervention for fall prevention in the elderly, exercise appeared to be a useful tool in fall prevention by improving fall risk factors. The optimum exercise prescription; moderate intensity frequency of 3-4 times per week, duration of 30-60minutes can contribute to decreased hazards and number of fall. Fall prevention protocol should include safety, falling effect, enjoyment, and easiness to follow for older people. Effective exercise programs suggested for fall prevention were such as weight-bearing exercise, resistance exercise, lower muscle strength with elastic band, swiss ball exercise walking, tai chi, and yoga.
The purpose of this study was examine the effect of self-exercise on patients with chronic arthritis. This study was performed from 1999 to 2001 with 107 subjects. Pain, Fatigue, Flexibility and Health status were measured. Data were analysed by SPSSWIN 10. 0 Package program, frequency, independent t-test and One Way ANOVA. The results were as follows : Of the 107 patients who were sutdied, mean age was 62 years and most of common disease were osteoarthritis. 67.4%was doing self-exercise and self-exercise consisted of 17 types of exercise. Fatigue was statistically different by disease type, duration of disease, education respectively. And fatigue, left shoulder flexibility were significantly different by duration of disease. There weren't significant differences between patient with self-exercise and patient without self-exercise on pain fatigue, flexibility and halth status. These findings confirms that self-exercise do not effective in increasing health improvement for the patients with osteoarthritis. From results of this study indicate that patients with arthritis should have taken systematic exercise such as the self-help education program aquatic exercise program for arthritis patient.

Purpose: This study was done to analyze the trends in excercise-related research in nursing and non nursing research studies published in Korea. Method: Two hundred and ten research studies published in Korea between January, 1990 and December, 2002 were analyzed according to the criteria of methological characteristics, pattern of excercise-related program, and measurement index of exercise effect. Results: There were twice many papers from nursing compared to other fields, and many experimental studies in nursing were done with more variety than in non nursing fields. Aspects of exercise pattern, such as excercise type. duration, and frequency, exercise-intervention pattern, and applying theory were especially included. When patterns of excercise therapy and index of exercise effect were analyzed, each researcher used their own unique excercise contents and intervention patterns(excercise time per week, exercise duration at each time period, excercise, intervention time, and etc). Conclusion: For the importance of exercise therapy to health improvement and the proper suggestion of exercise therapy on the basis of this research, meta-analysis of exercise effect are needed, and with this analysis, intervention patterns of exercise, development of standard exercise therapy, and identification of exercise effects are required.
Objective: The aim of this study is to find the influence on muscle fatigue by changing an angle of neck while Shaker exercise. Background: Shaker exercise is commonly applied to dysphagia patients for strengthen suprahyoid muscle(SHM) and relaxing upper esophageal sphincter. Method: Experiments were conducted by measuring muscle fatigue with surface electromyography(SEMG) in case of neck $15^{\circ}$ and $50^{\circ}$ flexion, in addition to original method. For the study 30 undergraduate students were participated as subjects. Muscle fatigue was measured with variations of median frequency(MF) and median frequency slope(MFS) by attaching SEMG to 3 muscles. At the same time, perceived exertion was measured by using Borg's rating of perceived exertion(RPE). Results: A MF was increased when low angle in SHM, both male and female. It means that muscle fatigue was significantly decreased(p<.05). RPE was significantly increased when low angle(p<.01). Perceived exertion explained 15.2% of the variation of MF in SHM. And regression equation was, MF in SHM = 59.918 + (4,910 * RPE). Conclusion: The outcome shows that it is possible to use the efficient method which makes muscle fatigue decrease by reducing the angle of neck flexion. Application: The results might contribute to develop the effective Shaker exercise method.
This study was aimed to implement the electroglottography (EGG) system for analyzing fundamental frequency of the phonation. EGG was recorded from the conductance between ring electrodes attached to the neck skin area near thyroid cartilage with high frequency carrier electric signals during vocalization, and voice signal was recorded with microphone simultaneously. EGG and voice signals were transmitted to the audio port in PC and recorded with stereo sound recording program. From the digitized data, several parameters such as pitch, jitter, shimmer, CQ and SQ were analyzed from the vowel sounds. For the voice training, sound fundamental frequency was displayed during the vocalization and singing a song using pitches analyzed from the EGG. The system implemented in this study could be used for vocal exercise.
Background: The purpose of this study was to assessment of posture sway on static standing in the elderly. Methods: The participants aged 60 to 90 years, were divided into age such 60s, 70s and 80s and with a history of exercise, arthritis and hang on one's stick. Posture sway were analyzed using the computerized BPM system. Each test was repeated three times. All the data were expressed means and standard deviation by using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: The posture sway test according to sex showed that mean balance, sway number and frequency performance were significantly stable in men than in women. All direction frequency, sway area, sway path and max velocity were significantly unstable in 80s than 70s and 60s. The results of the posture sway test according to exercise group, arthritis and hang on one's stick group were showed that mean balance function was significantly stable in exercise group than arthritis and stick groups. The weight was showed significant correlation by mean balance, sway no, frequency, sway area, sway path and max velocity. Sway area and max velocity were not significant correlation by frequency of lateral and left, right anterior and posterior direction. Conclusion: In this study was showed that posture sway was effected from health condition of elderly.

Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the effects of a thoracic flexibility exercise program on pain, heart rate variability (HRV), and depression in patients with chronic low back pain. Methods : Fifty patients with chronic low back pain participated in this study. Each participant performed a pre-test and post-test. The outcome measures evaluated were a visual analog scale, HRV test results (automatic activity, standard deviation normal to normal [SDNN], low frequency [LF], high frequency [HF], and LF/HF ratio), and the Beck Depression Inventory. Patients underwent conventional physiotherapy for 35 minutes per session. In addition, a thoracic flexibility exercise program (trunk rotation exercise, McKenzie exercise, and supine thoracic extension exercise) were performed 3 times per week for 4 weeks. Results : After the training period, the visual analog scale results showed a significant decrease in the post-test compared to the pre-test. Automatic activity, SDNN, LF, HF, and LF/HF ratio significantly increased in the post-test compared to the pre-test. The Beck depression inventory results significantly decreased in the post-test compared to the pre-test. Conclusion : This study demonstrated that a thoracic flexibility exercise program improves a visual analog scale, HRV (automatic activity, SDNN, LF, HF, and LF/HF ratio), and the Beck Depression Inventory in patients with chronic low back pain.
