  • Vibration testing is conducted for evaluate the fatigue resistance of responsible system over excitation situations and two kinds of vibration profiles, harmonic or random, are widely used in engineering fields. Harmonic excitation profile is adequate for the rotating machinery that is primarily exposed to the orderly excited force subjected for a rotating speed; Random profile is suitable for the non-stationary vibration input, that is a ground excitation for example. Recently, the sine on random (SOR) testing method was sometimes considered to represent the real excitation conditions since the measured response signals of a target system, expecially for moving mobility, shows usually a mixture of them. So, it is important to understand the accumulated fatigue damage over different excitation patterns, harmonic and/or random, to determine the efficient vibration profile of a target system. A uniaxial vibration testing with a notched simple beam was introduced to evaluate the fatigue damage for different excitation profiles and the best choice of vibration profile was concluded from those comparison of calculated fatigue damages.

  • This study investigates the structural characteristics of oil-free, gas beam foil journal bearings (GBFJBs) for use in high speed motors. Mathematical modeling was carried out, and reaction force modeling for static load was performed to predict the structural characteristics of the GBFJB. Mathematical modeling and reaction force modeling for static load are performed to predict the structural characteristics of GBFJBs. The reaction force of the test bearing against static loads was measured during experiments and compared with the predicted results. The measured experimental data reveal the nonlinear stiffness characteristics of the GBFJB against varying displacement and agree well with the predictions. Dynamic load tests using an exciter allow to identify the vibration characteristics of the GBFJB. Test results show that the vibration displacement, dynamic force, and acceleration measured on the test bearing are most dominant at the applied dynamic load (synchronization) frequency. Futhermore, the test results show that the hysteresis area recorded during the dynamic tests increases with the excitation amplitude and frequency, and that the beam stick phenomena occurr at high excitation frequencies. The single degree of freedom (DOF) vibration model aids to identify the stiffness and damping coefficient of the GBFJB, which decrease as the excitation frequency increases.

  • Dynamic forces due to mechanical and hydraulic related causes are always exerted on operating turbomachinery such as centrifugal pumps. To ensure the safety and the reliability of the pump. the magnitudes of the vibration must be kept within an acceptable limit. The focus of this paper is on the identification of the vibration behavior and the quantitative analysis of the hydraulic excitation forces. As the structure becomes more complex finite element analysis is essential to accurately predict the vibration characteristics and the excitation forces, This paper presents an experimental and analytical technique to find and solve to vibration problems in double volute double suction centrifugal pump. Measured vibration data due to the dynamic forces are presented and individual causes are identified, finally excitation forces of the pump are inversely estimated at each frequency on operating conditions.

  • Structure-borne noise is the interior noise that results from the low frequency vibrational energy transmitted through those body and joint parts. The relation between the excitation of powertrain and resultant interior sound must be analyzed in order to identify and predict the structure borne noise. The method of acoustic source excitation is preferred than the method of mechanical force excitation to measure the NTF(noise transfer function). Because acoustical method is more convenient and reliable. In this paper, to analysis and identify vehicle interior noise by powertrain is performed, and the vibro-acoustic transfer function is extracted from experimental measurement. These are important step of TPA(transfer path analysis) to identify effect of interior noise resulted from powertrain running excitation.

  • In the semiconductor and the optical industry a new transport system which can replace the conventional sliding system is required. These systems are driven by magnetic field and conveyer belt. The magnetic field damages semiconductor and contact force scratches the optical lens. The ultrasonic wave driven system can solve these problem. In this paper, the object transport system using the excitation of ultrasonic wave is proposed. The experiments for finding the optimal excitation frequency, finding phase-difference between two ultrasonic wave generators are performed. The relationship of transporting speed according to the change of flexural beam shape is verified and the system performance for practical use is evaluated.

  • In this paper, we study the analytical method to predict the excitation forces for the engine system. The engine system on the construction equipment is one of the important power sources, and the characteristics of the engine decide the performance of noise and vibration for the equipment. We predict the excitation forces using the geometrical data of the crank system and the combustion pressure in the cylinder. The excited forces are represented by the torque fluctuation above the center of the crank shaft.

  • This paper presents dynamic responses of structures with sliding base which limits the translation of external loads from ground excitation. A discrete element model based on the discontinuous deformation analysis method is proposed to study this sliding boundary problem. The sliding base is simulated using sets of fictitious contact springs along the sliding interface. The set of contact spring is to translate friction force from ground to superstructure. Validity of the proposed model is examined by the closed-form solutions of an idealized mass-spring structural model subjected to harmonic ground excitation. This model is also applied to a problem of a three-story structural model subjected to the ground excitation of 1940 El Centro earthquake. Analyses of both sliding-base and fixed-base conditions are performed as comparisons. This study shows that using this model can simulate the dynamic response of a sliding structure with frictional cut-off quite accurately. Results reveal that lowering the frictional coefficient of the sliding joint will reduce the peak responses. The structure responses in little deformation, but it displaces at the end of excitation.

  • The optimization of active bars' placement and feedback gains of closed loop control system for random intelligent truss structures under non-stationary random excitation is presented. Firstly, the optimal mathematical model with the reliability constraints on the mean square value of structural dynamic displacement and stress response are built based on the maximization of dissipation energy due to control action. In which not only the randomness of the physics parameters of structural materials, geometric dimensions and structural damping are considered simultaneously, but also the applied force are considered as non-stationary random excitation. Then, the numerical characteristics of the stationary random responses of random intelligent structure are developed. Finally, the rationality and validity of the presented model are demonstrated by an engineering example and some useful conclusions are obtained.
