  • Many port states such as New Zealand, the USA, Australia and Canada have strict regulations to prevent ships which arrive in their port from discharging polluted ballast water which contain harmful aquatic organism and pathogens. They are notified that transfer of polluted ballast water can cause serious injury to public health and damage to property and environment. For this reason, they perceived that the ballast exchange in deep sea is the most effective method, together with submitting the ballast management plan which contains the effective exchange method, ballast system and safety consideration. In this study, we pursued both nautical engineering analysis and optimization of algorithm in order to generate the sequence of stability and rapidity. Heuristic Algorithm was chosen on the basis of optimality and applicability to a sequential exchange problem. We have built an optimized algorithm, for automatic exchange of ballast water, by redefining core elements of the $A^\ast$ algorithm, such as node, operator and evaluation function. Final version of the optimized algorithm has been applied to existing bulk carrier and the performance of the algorithm has been verified successfully.

  • In case of VLSI design, the shuffle-exchange graph is useful for optimal layout. HOEY and LEISERSON proposed the method of drawing a N-nodes shuffle-exchange graph on O(N2/log N) layout area by using the complex plane digram. [2] In this paper, a new algorithm for drawing the shuffle-exchange graph is proposed. This algorithm is not by using the complex plane diabram, but the table of e decimal represented nodes of shuffle-edge relations. And the structural properties for optimal layout of the graph are summarized and verified. By using this more simplified algorithm, a FORTRAN program which can be treated faster is written. Aimed near optimal shuffle-exchange graphs are printed out by giving inputs` the number of nodes.

  • This paper presents an application of a improved branch exchange (IBE) algorithm with a tie branch power (TBP) flow equation to solve the Optimal Routing problem for operation of a radial Power system including power distribution system. The main objective of the Optimal Routing problem usually is to minimize the network real power loss and to improve the voltage profile in the network. The new BE algorithm adopts newly designed methods which are composed by decision method of maximum loss reduction and new index of loss exchange in loop network Thus, the proposed algorithm in this paper can search the optimal topological structures of distribution feeders by changing the open/closed states of the sectionalizing and tie switches. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated with the practical IEEE 32, 69 bus test systems and KEPCO 148 bus test system to show favorable performance gained.

  • This study deals with an early detection problem of structural change in won/dollar exchange market. A CUSUM algorithm is developed to monitor relevant economic variables indicating structural change in won/dollar exchange market. We applied the CUSUM algorithm to examine whether or not it was possible to alarm the 1997 economic crisis of Korea in advance.

  • In this study, a modified algorithm for the exchange heuristic is developed and applied to a resource-constrained scheduling problem. The problem involves multiple projects and multiple resource categories and allows flexible resource allocation to each activity. The objective is to minimize the maximum completion time. The exchange heuristkc is a multiple pass algorithm which makes improvements upon a given initial feasible schedule. Four different modified algorithms are proposed. The original algorithm and the new algorithms were compared through an experimental investigation. All the proposed algorithms reduce the maximum completion time much more effectively than the original algorithm. Especially, one of four proposed algorithms obviously outperforms the other three algorithms. The algorithm of the best performance produces significantly shorter schedules than the original algorithm, though it requires up to three times more computation time. However, in most situations, a reduction in schedule length means a significant reduction in the total cost.

  • This paper presents the problem of partitioning the Single-Stage Shuffle-Exchange Network(SSEN). An algorithm, named SSEN_to_PSEN, is devised to transform an SSEN into a Partitionable Shuffle-Exchange Network (PSEN). The proposed algorithm presents that the SSEN can be partitioned into independent sub-networks without additional links for N $\leq$ 8. Additional links are needed in order to partition an SSEN, but only when N $\geq$ 16. The running time of the algorithm SSEN_to_PSEN is $\theta$(NlogN). By comparing with a hypercube network, the PSEN is less expensive than a hypercube network even when some additional links are added. By partitioning, a large PSEN in a massively parallel machine can compute various problems for multiple users simultaneously, thereby the processing efficiency of the machine is improved.

  • Thermal Exchange Optimization (TEO) is a newly developed algorithm which mimics the thermal exchange between a solid object and its surrounding fluid. In this paper, an improved version of the TEO is developed to fix the shortcomings of the standard version. To demonstrate the viability of the new algorithm, the CEC 2016's single objective problems are considered along with the discrete size optimization of benchmark skeletal structures. Problem specific constraints are handled using a fly-back mechanism. The results show the validity of the improved TEO method compared to its standard version and a number of well-known algorithms.

  • In this paper, we show a modified Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol that can exchange keys by exposing only minimal information using pre-computable session key pairs. The discrete logarithm problem, which provides the safety of existing Diffie-Hellman and Diffie-Hellman based techniques, is modified to prevent exposure of primitive root. We prove the algorithm's operation by applying the actual value to the proposed scheme and compare the execution time and safety with the existing algorithm, shown that the security of the algorithm is improved more than the product of the time complexity of the two base algorithms while maintaining the computation amount at the time of key exchange. Based on the proposed algorithm, it is expected to provide a key exchange environment with improved security.
