  • In this work, Analytical model for voltage and current characteristics of NPT(Non-PunchThrough) IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) was represented. voltage and current characteristics models were based on prediction on power loss of NPT IGBT during transient condition. For Analytical current model, excess carrier concentration and accumulated charge in active base width was analyzed with time variance. Analytical models were simulated by varying lifetime of excess minority carrier.

  • Natural gas is an attractive fuel in view of environment benefits due to its flow carbon-to-hydrogen ratio. However, its compositions and properties are varied depending upon production regional groups. Therefore, study on the combustion characteristics of natural gas engines with a variety of compositions has been demanded for the efficient application of gas engines. This study aims to investigate the effects of gas composition on engine combustion characteristics. It was found that , by controlling an engine with fixed fuel nozzle area, power and heat release were subject to Wobbe Index. And at fixed excess air ratios, power and heat release were subject to low heating value of unit mixture . In addition, in case of constant nozzle area, combustion duration was found to be inversely proportional to CP(Combustion Potential), and the condition of fixed excess air ratios showed no change in combustion duration, regardless of CP.

  • In the fiber-optic gyroscope employing a high-power erbium-doped fiber source, the source excess noise was subtracted from the gyro output through a single processing to improve the gyroscope sensitivity. As the result, we obtained the reduction of noise by 13.5 dB (electrical) which was measured from the noise floor spectrum when the gyro was modulated with the depth of 1.8 rad. In addition, the random walk coefficient of the gyro output was reduced by a factor of 4~5.

  • It is requested to shorten the starting duration for idle stop function equipped cars without harmful effects on the environment. Higher cranking speeds can be achieved with high torque starter. The object of this study is to develope the high torque starter and evaluate its effect on the exhaust emissions. The test was conducted on a 1.5 L, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, multipoint-port-fuel-injection gasoline engine. Engine out emissions such as HC, CO, $CO_2$, and the excess air ratios, lambda were measured using MEXA-554JK. The result showed that a high torque starter, HTS-II shortened the starting duration and reduced engine out emissions of HC, CO and improved starting performance with larger excess air ratio than that of the original starter, Org. S and a high torque starter, HTS-I.

  • We present analysis results of the energy spectra of MCG-2-58-22 associated with occasional flares which appear in a long-term X-ray light curve. We measure an intrinsic power-law slope of this object to be ${\Gamma}=1.74{\pm}0.02$ in the energy range of ${\sim}1-5keV$ and find that this slope is little affected by flares. We confirm that there exists a broad excess emission above 5 keV to the power-law continuum. The excess emission is less variable compared with a flux variation of flare and tends to be relatively weak during flares. A soft X-ray spectrum is also found to change, implying the presence of a variable soft component. We discuss the implications of these spectral variations.

  • This paper is a study for accurate iron loss calculation of a cylindrical linear machine for free piston engine. This study presents that it is possible to accurately predict power loss in ferromagnetic laminations under magnetic flux by specially considering the dependence of hysteresis, classical, and excess loss components on the magnetic induction derivative. Significant iron loss in the armature core will not only compromise the machine efficiency, but may also result in excessive heating, which could lead to irreversible deterioration in the machine performance. Thus, correct prediction of power losses under a distorted flux waveform is therefore an important prerequisite to machine design, particularly when dealing with large apparatus where stringent efficiency standards are required. Finally, it will be discussed about the iron loss in various materials of cylindrical linear electric machine by geometric and electrical parameters. It will give elaborate information about the perfect design and design rules of cylindrical linear machine and in parallel tools for the calculation, simulation and design will be available.

  • We find evidence of a hard X-ray excess above the thermal emission in two cool clusters (Abell 1750 and IC 1262) and a soft excess in two hot clusters (Abell 754 and Abell 2163). Our modeling shows that the excess components in Abell 1750, IC 1262, and Abell 2163 are best fit by a steep power law indicative of a significant non-thermal component. In the case of Abell 754, the excess emission is thermal, 1 ke V emission. We analyze the dynamical state of each cluster and find evidence of an ongoing or recent merger in all four clusters. In the case of Abell 2163, the detected, steep spectrum, non-thermal X-ray emission is shown to be associated with the weak merger shock seen in the temperature map. However, this shock is not able to produce the flatter spectrum radio halo which we attribute to post-shock turbulence. In Abell 1750 and IC 1262, the shocked gas appears to be spatially correlated with non-thermal emission suggesting cosmic-ray acceleration at the shock front.

  • Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) consists of nano-scale cells and demands very low power consumption so that it is one of the alternative technologies that can overcome the limits of scaling CMOS technologies. Typical BCD-EXCESS 3 code converters using QCA have not considered the scalability so that the architectures are not suitable for a large scale circuit design. Thus, we design a BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter with scalability using QCADesigner and verify the effectiveness by simulation. Our structure have reduced 32 gates and 7% of garbage space rate compare with typical URG BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter. Also, 1 clock is only needed for circuit expansion of our structure though typical QCA BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter demands 7 clocks.

  • Noise in homogeneous extrinsic semiconductor samples is calculated due to distributed diffusion noise sources. As the length of the device shrinks at a fixed bias voltage, the ac-wise short-circuit noise current shows excess noise as well as thermal noise spectra. This excess noise behaves like a full shot noise when the channel length becomes very small compared with the extrinsic Debye length. For the first time, the analytic formula of the excess noise in extrinsic semiconductors from velocity-fluctuation noise sources is given for finite frequencies. This formula shows the interplay between transit time, dielectric relaxation time, and velocity relaxation time in determining the terminal noise current as well as the carrier density fluctuation. As frequency increases, the power spectral density of the excess noise rolls off. This formula sheds light on noise in nanoscale MOSFETs where quasi-ballistic transport plays an important role in carrier transport and noise.
