The evaporative desalination system using solar thermal energy would be the efficient and attractive method to get fresh water from brine due to low carbon dioxide generation. In this research the solar desalination system as a heating source of refrigerant R123 in the evaporator was considered. The circulation of refrigerant in the evaporator can reduce the energy consumption of the system, because of using the latent heat of the refrigerant 123 instead of the sensible heat of present hot water. The system was comprised of the single-stage fresh water production unit on the capacity of 1ton/day with shell and tube type evaporator, heaters instead of solar collector to supply the proper heat to refrigerant, and refrigerant and brine circulation systems. Various operating flowrate and temperature ranges were varied in the experiments to get the optimum design data. The results showed that the optimum flow rate of brine feed rate to evaporator was 1.2Liter/min, and the yield of fresh water was increased as higher temperature of feed brine. It was confirmed that the circulation flowrate of heating source of refrigerant was decrease of one fifth of the present warm water system, and very efficient system for solar desalination.
In this study, the performance of five ejectors has been investigated with working fluids of water and water vapor. The diameters of nozzle and mixing tube of five ejectors were 1 and 1.5(ejector A), 1 and 2(ejector B), 1 and 2.5(ejector C), 1 and 3(ejector D), 2 and 4(ejector E) in millimeters. The length of the mixing tube was 8-10 times of its diameter. For each ejector, the ratio of mass flow rate of ejected water to that of entrained water vapor, $\mu$, was evaluated in terms of evaporator pressure, mass flow rate of ejected water, and water temperature. It was found that the performance of an ejector was not stable when the ratio of diameters was too small or too large(ejector A and D) and $\mu$ was almost the same for two ejectors with the same diameter ratio(ejector B and E). It was also found that $\mu$ increased almost linearly with an increase of evaporator pressure and the ratio $\mu$ increased as water temperature decreased. As expected, $\mu$ converged to zero as the water temperature approached the evaporator temperature. Finally, a non-dimensional correlation has been developed to predict$\mu$ terms of evaporator pressure and saturation pressure of ejected water.
The purpose of this study is a heat transfer coefficient test of evaporator tube in shell and tube heat exchanger by shapes, using R-404A. The experimental apparatus is designed to simulate the real heat transfer rate in one shell and tube heat exchanger. The test section is formed four type tubes that are Inner ridged tube, Corrugated tube, Turbo-C tube, Inner fin tube and shell type is formed by electrical heater. All tests were performed at a fixed refrigerant evaporator temperature at $1.5^{\circ}C,\;-3^{\circ}C$ and with mass fluxes of 29, 25 kg/hr. Heat transfer rate is calculated a enthalpy difference in test section. In experiment, heat transfer coefficient measured one by one and electrical heaters are supplemented by evaporator.
This paper presents an optimal design of a micro evaporator which maximizes the heat transfer coefficient. Number of gaps, spanwise distance and streamwise distance are selected as the geometric design parameters. Mass flow rate of the refrigerant is selected as the non-geometric design parameter. Temperature at the surface of the heater is measured to valuate the heat transfer coefficient. Nine experiments are conducted using $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array. Maximum heat transfer coefficient is 640 W/$m^2K$ at the parameters of 2 gaps, 0.2 mm spanwise distance, 1.0 mm streamwise distance and 0.72 g/s mass flow rate. Among the 3 geometric parameters, the spanwise distance is the most sensitive parameter influencing the heat transfer coefficient. We conduct a second stage of experiment to increase the heat transfer coefficient by reselecting the mass flow rate. We concluded that 0.87 g/s is the optimized flow rate for an active micro cooler resulting in a heat transfer coefficient of 651 W/$m^2K$.
The present study has been conducted to develop a heat pipe heat exchanger for middle-high temperature ranged from 300 to $600^{\circ}C$. Heat transfer rate, overall heat transfer coefficient and temperature effectiveness were investigated using a heat pipe heat exchanger with Dowtherm A as working fluid. Theoretical analysis was also conducted, and the followings were obtained: (1) Heat exchange rate increased as waste gas temperature supplied to evaporator and frontal velocity in condenser increased, (2) Overall heat transfer coefficient increased by $3{\sim}7\%$ as frontal velocity in evaporator and condenser increased, (3) Temperature effectiveness was about $30\%$ in evaporator and was about $40\%$ in condenser, (4) Heat recovery rate was about $38\%$, (5) Pressure drop did not exceed $8\;mmH_{2}O$ under the running condition of $1{\sim}3Nm/s$, (6) Simulation results were corresponded with experimental results.
Performance analysis of the automotive air-conditioning system is conducted by using computer simulation, and performance tests are carried out by using the climate wind tunnel in order to verify simulation. Evaporator and condenser were modeled by using empirical correlation which was obtained from calorimeter data, and compressor was modeled by using map based method. The steady state thermodynamic conditions of refrigerant satisfying mass and energy balance were assumed in the simulation program for automotive airconditioning system. The system performance was analyzed by finite difference method until differential air enthalpy between evaporator inlet and outlet becomes converged. Simulation results are in good agreement with experimental results at most operating conditions. Variation of discharge temperature and pressure of compressor, outlet temperature of evaporator, cooling capacity, and COP were investigated in term of air volume flow rate for evaporator, compressor capacity, compressor speed, superheat of thermostatic expansion valve, and diameter of suction line.
The microchannel evaporator with louver fin using carbon dioxide are analyzed according to the frost growth. To predict the performance of microchannel evaporator with the frost growth under low temperature, the simulation condition of previous studies was applied. As a result, the frost thickness increases and its increasing rate is reduced when the operating time increases. Frost thickness increases gradually below the quality of 0.74, and then it decreases rapidly. In addition, the frost growth of present model under same surface temperature is very similar trends with Moallem's test results. In case of low temperature application, the dimensionless frost thickness increases dramatically and it is about 0.86 after 10 minutes.

A general steady-state model for simulation on domastic refrigerator has been developed. The system model consists of various standard components such as evaporator compressor condenser capillary tube and cabinet. Cabinet is not system component but influence characteristic on domastic refrigerator. The purpose of this paper is to compare between characteristics of HFC 134a with CFC 12 in the domastic refrigerator and to predict the steady state cycle performance which is various specifications of cycle components under the continuous running conditions. As the results of simulation the coefficient of performance of both condenser and evaporator increases with increasing UA the increasing rate for condenser is greater than for evaporator.
This study investigates the simultanceous heat and mass transfer between a falling desiccant film and air in cross flow at the interface. The application of this work is the optimization of falling film evaporators for use in potential hybrid air conditioning systems. The specific geometry considered is liquid TEG films falling along the vertical cooled surfaces of a channel with air in cross flow. The equations to describe the coupled heat and mass transfer between a falling desiccant film and air in cross flow for a falling film evaporator have been presented and solved numerically. The effects of important design and operating variables on the evaporator performance predicted by the parametric numerical analysis and suggestions for performance improvements of the evaporator are presented.
In this paper, natural convection around the ambient evaporator was numerically studied using commercial computational fluid dynamics software. From the simulations, temperature and velocity fields around the evaporator were found as a function of evaporator size and liquefied gas flow rate. The heat transfer coefficient at the external surface of the evaporator was also calculated from the simulation results. In order to give the heat transfer coefficient for various conditions, correlation between Rayleigh number and Nusselt number was proposed.
