In order to develop a compact evaporator, experiments that show characteristics of evaporating heat transfer and pressure drop in the helically coiled minichannel were performed in our previous research. This study was focused on the performance analysis of helically coiled heat exchangers with circular minichannels with an inner diameter=1.0 mm. The working fluid was R-22, and the properties of R-22 were estimated using the REFPROP program. Numerical simulation was performed to compare results with the experimental results of the helically coiled heat exchanger. As the heat transfer rate and pressure drop were calculated at the micro segment of the branch channels, the performance of the evaporator was evaluated. The following conclusions were obtained through the numerical simulations of the helically coiled heat exchanger. It showed good performance when the flow rate of each branch channels was suitable to heat load of air-side. The numerical simulation value agreed with experimental results within ${\pm}15%$. In this study, a numerical simulation program was developed to estimate the performance of a helically coiled evaporator. And, an optimum helically coiled minichannels evaporator was designed.
It is well known that some key parameters, such as evaporating temperature, refrigerant mass flow rate, face velocity and inlet air temperature, have significant influence on the evaporator performance. However performance studies related to a humid environment have been very scarce. It is demonstrated that the refrigerant mass flow rate, heat flux, water condensing rate and air outlet temperature of the evaporator significantly increase with air inlet relative humidity. As the air inlet relative humidity increases, the latent and total heat transfer rates increase, but the sensible heat transfer rate decreases. The purpose of this study is to provide experimental data on the effect of air inlet relative humidity on the air and refrigerant side pressure drop characteristics for a slit fin-tube heat exchanger. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of inlet refrigerant saturation temperature of 7 $^{\circ}C$ and mass flux varied from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s. The condition of air was dry bulb temperature of 27$^{\circ}C$, air Velocity Varied from 0.38 to 1.6 m/s. Experiments Showed that air Velocity decreased 8.7% on 50% of relative humidity 40% of that at degree of superheat of 5$^{\circ}C$, which resulted that pressure drop of air and refrigerant was decreased 20.8 and 8.3% for 50% of relative humidity as compared to 40%, respectively.
The application of carbon dioxide as an attractive natural working fluid in air cooling and heating system is increasingly important in view of the CFC substitution problem. The thermal performance of compact evaporator was analyzed using section-by-section method. The effects of the two-dimensional nonuniformity of air flow through the evaporator is presented. The detrimental effect of the aid flaw nonuniformity on the thermal performance of the evaporator is found to be significant for many typical applications. It is shown that total heat transfer rate of evaporator using $CO_2$ is higher than that using R134a at the simulation conditions.

Experimental investigation on the performance of dual-evaporator refrigeration system with an ejector has been carried out. In this study, a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant R134a is chosen as a working fluid. The condenser and two-evaporators are made as concentric double pipes with counter-flow type heat exchangers. Experiments were peformed by changing the inlet and outlet temperatures of secondary fluids entering condenser, high-pressure evaporator and low-pressure evaporator at test conditions keeping a constant compressor speed. When the external conditions (inlet temperatures of secondary fluid entering condenser and one of the evaporators) are fixed, results show that coefficient of performance (COP) increases as the inlet temperature of the other evaporator rises. It is also shown that the COP decreases as the mass flow rate ratio of suction fluid to motive fluid increases. The COP of dual-evapo-rator refrigeration system with an ejector is superior to that of a single-evaporator vapor compression system by 3 to 6%.
The heat exchange part in a modern multi-type air-conditioning system employs multiple-pass heat exchangers. The heat-transfer performance of an each pass in such an exchanger depends strongly on the length of the two-phase region and the mass flow of the refrigerant. The total length and diameters of the pipes, the exit conditions, and the arrangement of each pass as well as the geometrical shape of the distributor at the branching sections are considered to be major factors affecting the heat-transfer performance. The refrigerant commonly used in these systems is HCFC-22. The two objectives of this paper are to investigate the characteristics of the refrigerant flow rate and the superheat in the evaporator of a multi-type air-conditioning system for a single or simultaneous operating conditions and to control the superheat and the refrigerant flow rate of the evaporator.
This study was conducted to find performance evaluation method for automobile air conditioner. Experimental facilities were constructed to simulate wide range of operating condition for the automobile air conditioner. Compressor speed was controled by variable speed electric motor and the power was measured through torque transducer and tachometer was used to measure compressor speed. Parametric studies were conducted in this study, to figure out effect of environment variables on the performance of the automobile air conditioner. The environmental variables are inlet air temperature, relative humidity and air flow rate for the evaporator and inlet air temperature and air flow rate for the condenser. Compressor speed is also changed. The results of this study shows that air flow rate of the evaporator is more sensitive to the performance of the automobile air conditioner than the other variables. However relative humidity of the inlet air of the evaporator strongly affects capacity rather that COP.
The objectives of this paper are to measure the heat transfer and pressure drop of the heat transfer tube for an evaporator of absorption system applications. Five types of heat transfer tubes with different shape and heat transfer area are tested in the present experiment. Heat transfer and pressure drop performance of heat transfer tubes are measured in various operating conditions, and compared each other. The results show that the heat transfer rate of thermoexcel notch tube and low fin tube increases about 27.6% and 11.6% at the refrigerant flow rate 250 kg/h compared with that of bare tube, respectively. The thermoexcel notch tube is shown the best performance considering pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient.
An experimental investigation was conducted to study two-phase flow distribution in a T-type distributor of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger using R22. A comparison was made between the predictions by previously proposed tube-by-tube method and experimental data for the heat transfer rate of evaporator. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of saturation temperature of 5$^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rate varying from 0.6 to 1.2kg/min. The inlet air has dry bulb temperature of 27$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.63 to 1.71㎧. Experiment show that air velocity increased by 85.2% is need for T-type distributor with four outlet branches than that of two outlet branches under the superheat of 5$^{\circ}C$, which resulted in air-side pressure drop increase of 130% for T-type distributor with four outlet branches as compared to two outlet branches.
