  • In this note the characteristics of ocean waves is reviewed from standpoint of practical application. To describe the ocean wave in mathematical terms many wave theories have been developed, each under some different aspects. Among well-established wave theories the gravity wave theory and the cnoidal wave theory are examined by a mathematical principle. Finally valid range of each theory is suggested for its numerical evaluation.

  • This study is an attempt to investigate effect of pitch treatment program using visual feedback for profound deaf adults. Dr. Speech program was applied as a training tool. The subjects of this study were 3 profound deaf adults. Speech samples for evaluation were vowel prolongations and connected speech. Analysis was performed under the principle of single subject research design. As results of this study, all subjects showed the treatment effects which were represented by lowering fundamental frequency and speaking fundamental frequency.

  • The main purpose of this study was to provide basic data for better design of subway station based on universal design principle. Conclusions based on the findings ate as follows: Checklists were developed to evaluate the subway stations facilities based on universal design principles Modified and/or complementary lists can be employed to develop the evaluation tools and can construct a database for defining the standard items in order to improve the facilites.

  • This study was to investigate principle of freeze concentration such as nucleation, crystal growth and procedure of freeze concentration, essential factor and application of freeze concentration. Especially, quality of milk was emphasized. For exemple, in sensory evaluation of freeze concentrated and reconstituted skim milk and whole milk, taste, color, mouth feel and texture were superior to control. Recently developed technique of freeze concentration for quality milk and dairy products may be expected for advanced quality of various milk and dairy products in near future.

Using Kirkpatrick's Evaluation Model in a Multimedia-based Blended Learning Environment

  • Over the years, there has been much research in blended learning. However, research regarding its use and evaluation is inconsistent, not following any specific evaluation method, and may not be applicable to local students. In this research, a case study was conducted to evaluate the environment based on three levels of Kirkpatrick's model. Methodological triangulation was the principle of data collection used in which multiple sources of evidence were triangulated to provide insights into this study. Instruments used include surveys, interviews, questionnaires and pre- and post-tests that are guided by Kirkpatrick's model. The results revealed that students were positive with the learning environment. Students enjoyed learning with multimedia and motivated to learn as well as engaged in the environment. The tests showed significant difference in their learning. Students also perceived that they have transferred their learning from face-to-face lecture into problem-based learning and learning outcome. This research contributes to the field by providing deeper insights into assessments in multimedia-based blended learning environment and empirical evidence on views, attitudes, learning and knowledge transfer of students in higher education.

인터넷과 슬라이드를 이용한 경관평가방법의 비교 (A Comparison of Landscape Evaluation between the Internet and Slide Method)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the validity and the reliability of the visual simulation method using the internet. For this. the evaluation of the artificial and natural landscape through the medium of color slides are compared with the internet survey. Data is analysed through the comparison of t-test between the two media by landscape type, and spatial image is analysed by factor analysis algorithm. Principle component analysis using Varimax Method is applied for extraction and factor rotation respectively. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; There are no statistical differences between the two methods with artificial and natural landscape in the total data that included second tests. Factors covering the spatial image are found to be \`aesthetic\`, \`spatial shape\`, and \`familiarity\`. Total variance is obtained as 66.4%. There are no statistical differences between the two methods in 2/3 of the cases. In the case of far view of artificial landscape, the results of the t-test show that the two methods are exactly the same. Especially in the case of the artificial far landscape shows no difference of all factors between two methods. There are no differences between first and second tests of the same media and the same landscape type. And it shows the reliability of this method. These results suggest that the probability that the internet can be used as a medium of landscape evaluation and gathering information on anyone\`s landscape image. Simulation techniques with the internet survey method should be further developed for practical application.

집중유도형 교류전위차법에 의한 강자성체 및 상자성체의 2차원 표면결함의 비파괴평가 (Nondestructive Evaluation of 2-Dimensional Surface Crack in Ferromagnetic Metal and Paramagnetic Metal by ICFPD Technique)

  • Aiming at nondestructive evaluation of defect with high accuracy and resolution, ICFPD(Induced Current Focusing Potential Drop) technique was newly developed. This technique can be applied for locating and sizing of defects in components with not only simple shape such as plain surface but also more complex shape and geometry such as curved surface and dissimilar joing. This paper describes the principle of ICFPD technique and also the results of 2-dimensional surface crack in ferromagnetic metal(A508 Cl. III steel) and paramagnetic metal (pure aluminum and stainless 304 steel) measured by this technique. Results are that surface defects in each specimen are detected with the difference of potential drop, and potential drops are distributed a similar shape for each metal and each depth. The normalized potential drop ( $V_{\delta}$2/$^{t}$ / $V_{{\delta} 2}$$^{-1}$) max. in the vicinity of defect is varied with the depth of defect. Therefore, ICFPD technique can be used for the evaluation of defect not only in ferromagnetic metal but also in paramagnetic steel..

유니버설 디자인의 적합성에 관한 전문가 평가 방법 (Expert Evaluation Method for the Suitability of Universal Design)

  • In the world, the old population is growing fast and many countries went into an advanced age society. Therefore the development of everyday products, electric appliances, and welfare services considering old people is more important than ever. In particular, the complexity of products can cause many problems for old people. Universal design is an approach to create environments and products that recognizes the diversity of users, regardless of their ability or age. Universality evaluation for a product is very important to verify old people's accessibility and usability for the product. Universality means how good a product was designed in view of universal design principles. In this study, UNIX, a method to evaluate the universality of a product was developed. UNIX was based on seven universal design principles; equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, size and space for approach and use. UNIX is a kind of expert evaluation and very simple method. The method is consisted of two steps. In the first step, relative weights for seven principles and subjective ratings on design suitability for each principle are obtained. In the second step, universality index (UNIX) of each product is obtained by weighted average multiplying relative weights and rating scores. As a case study, this method was applied for mouse designs. In conclusion, this method could be effectively applied to evaluate the universality of a product.

수간호사가 활용하는 근무성적 평정에 관한 조사연구 (A Survey on Head Nurses' Perceptions and Performances on Staff Evaluation)

  • This study was designed and carried out to identify the methodologies of the staff evaluation used by the headnurses and their perception on the purpose of the evaluations, and to measure the degree and type of perceived purpose and the degree of implementation of staff evaluation principles into preactice. A hundred and eleven from four general hospitals with 600 beds and over were conveniently sampled. Data were gathered from August 20, through September 10, 1994 ; demographic data of respondents and 'methodologies used for staff evaluation' by questionaires, level of 'perceived purposes of staff evaluation' and level of implementation of the 'principles of staff evaluation into practice' by Likert-type rating scales developed by the researcher. Raw and percentile scores and means were calculated and data were processed further by t-tests and ANOVA. Results are as follows ; 1. Traditional methodlogies : checklists(90.1%) and ranking methods(45.9%) revealed to be the two mostly prefered and used methods. 2. Of the 20 item-descriptions of the 'purpose of staff evaluation': 10 'control, evaluative' and 10 'non-control, developmental' the first(mean=3.19) to the ninth(mean=2.74) in rank order revealed to be the 'control, evaluative purpose', while the tenth in rank order revealed to be the first among the 'non-control, evaluative' item(mean-1.57). 3. Level of purpose of staff evaluation perceived as 'control ; evaluative'(mean=43.76, S.D.=5.01) revealed to be significantly(t=-3.86, p<.05) highter than 'non-control ; developmental'(mean=40.65, S.D.=3.41). 4. Level of implementation of 'staff evaluation principle into practice' revealed to be moderately high(mean=2.40).
