  • In order to ensure a certain level of the quality of design, standardized evaluation indicators are being used as an objective criterion. Even though the evaluation indicators are quantifiable, limitations such as inefficiency and inconsistency caused by manual task in the evaluation process still have been found. BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology that is commonly adopted in architectural design process provides an environment which enables us to figure out a building model to be interpreted quantitatively with the basis of the building information model. It supports quantitative, consistent, accurate and quick evaluations so as to improve quality of design even in the initial design phase. This paper aims to establish BIM-enabled quantitative indicators and an evaluation framework to analyze building circulation even in early phase of design. The indicators are composed of 4 types (relative distance, accessibility, simplicity, pedestrian friendliness) and 7 sub-types. The evaluation framework is the process to derive Parameterized Path Value (PPV) as weighting on each indicator. For demonstrating the scalability of the suggested evaluation indicators and the framework, the authors implemented an evaluation tool and a case study has been carried out by using an actual building remodel project.

  • Large scale projects of sea-land reclamation have been practiced mainly to enlarge farmland in Korea. Most projects produced estuarine reservoir with dike construction, which might result in water quality problems due to block of natural flowing of stream water to the sea. Applicability of a widely accepted watershed-based water quality assessment tool (BASINS) and its associated watershed model was evaluated on the Hwaong watershed in Korea. BASINS was found to be a convenient and powerful tool for assessment of watershed characteristics, and provided various tools to delineate the watershed into land segments and river reaches, reclassify land use, and parameterize for HSPF simulation. WASP5 is a general purpose modeling system for assessing the fate and transport of conventional and toxic pollutants in surface water bodies. This study involved selection and linkage of available models to be used as a tool in evaluating the effects of BMPs for control on reservoir water quality. Overall,.Linkage of BASINS/HSPF and WASP5 was applicable and found to be a powerful tool in pollutant loading estimation from the watershed and reservoir, and its use is recommended.

  • It is necessary to understand and apply the concept of Quality of Service(QoS) for the objective selection among the computer network equipment. Because ITU-T E.800 recommendation covers the service quality of provider's viewpoint and the satisfaction of user, it can be used to evaluate and select the product of computer network systems. This paper is concerned with the development of an evaluation model using QoS and software tool for selection of the most suitable LAN switch. We apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method of Saaty which has been in a multiple criteria framework for an effective group decision process to the selection of LAN switch. The sample data are collected and processed from a questionnaire of professionals in the network field. And we implement a prototype tool for the selection of LAN switch according to the suggested selection model and analyse the result. The result of our research is expected to be a useful tool for decision making to evaluate and select the LAN switch and also can be applied to the decision making of evaluation and selection related to the product of computer network with QoS.

  • In the service sectors, the qualitative evaluation method in the form of a survey is widely used as a major assessment tool to evaluate the quality of service. However, the results obtained from a survey can involve the subjective judgment of the respondent. In this study, we propose a method to secure objectivity by excluding subjectivity that may be included in the qualitative evaluation results. In particular, we deal with a situation where the same type of qualitative evaluation tool is used repeatedly by several service providers. To this end, by utilizing both the Ordered Probit model and third-party evaluation results, we determine whether subjectivity is involved in the results. After correcting subjectivity, the final results are obtained through statistical analysis. The application analyzed in this study is the medical service area. With the actual evaluation results supplied by the service providers, we explain how objectivity can be secured from the assessment data by applying our proposed approach.

  • This thesis presents the methods and tool development of performance assessment as final stage for information literacy instruction of teacher-librarians. The evaluation is an important part in information literacy instruction of teacher-librarians in the school libraries. But until now, there is little research on evaluation methodologies in the instructional activities of teacher-librarians. There is only evaluation domain presented in the primary and secondary 'Information and the Library' curriculum. To develop an evaluation model as a base for measuring performance assessment related to teacher-librarians is important. The goal of this thesis is to provide teacher-librarians with basic principles to develop many kinds of performance assessment tools in their own instructional activities.

  • Since Traditional Korean medicine (TKM) doctors use various knowledge systems during treatment, diagnosis results may differ for each TKM doctor. However, it is difficult to explain all the reasons for the diagnosis because TKM doctors use both explicit and implicit knowledge. In this study, an upgraded random forest (RF)-based evaluation tool was proposed to extract clinical knowledge of TKM doctors. Also, it was confirmed to what extent the professor's clinical knowledge was delivered to the trainees by using the evaluation tool. The data used to construct the evaluation tool were targeted at 106 people who visited the Sasang Constitutional Department at Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital at Gangdong. For explicit knowledge extraction, four TKM doctors were asked to express the importance of symptoms as scores. In addition, for implicit knowledge extraction, importance score was confirmed in the RF model that learned the patient's symptoms and the TKM doctor's constitutional determination results. In order to confirm the delivery of clinical knowledge, the similarity of symptoms that professors and trainees consider important when discriminating constitution was calculated using the Jaccard coefficient. As a result of the study, our proposed tool was able to successfully evaluate the clinical knowledge of TKM doctors. Also, it was confirmed that the professor's clinical knowledge was delivered to the trainee. Our tool can be used in various fields such as providing feedback on treatment, education of training TKM doctors, and development of AI in TKM.

  • International meetings on various aspects of cancer- its etiology, its diagnosis, its treatment, its palliation, and its prevention and control are held frequently. Many have similar themes, and many seek and receive the same speakers and audiences. A fundamental question arises: what difference does any individual meeting/congress/conference make or add to our understanding of the relevant issues? While many meetings conduct evaluations at the end of the Congress, few use evaluation as a tool to guide design, implementation, and evaluation of both short and long term impacts, and address the question of "what difference did the Congress make". The International Cancer Control Congresses, which are held biennially in different regions of the world, took the opportunity to use evaluation in this way, and ask the relevant questions. This paper describes that evaluation session of the ICCC4, held in Seoul, Korea in November 2011, which was part of the larger evaluation issue.
