스쿨존 안전성 평가지수 개발 (A Development of the Integrated Evaluation Criteria for Safety of School Zones)

  • In recent years, there have been a number of concerns and measures surrounding 'Traffic Safety' for children. But, actually, safety measurements of 'School Zone' lack. This research thesis was designed to quantify risk degrees of 'School Zone', in a simple way, with the development of evaluation indicators to evaluate risk degrees of 'School Zone'. This is deems to be used for a guideline necessary for devising improvements or safety measures against 'School Zone' in the future. And, this is expected to be useful for managing and controlling safety each local facility about elementary schools.

  • PURPOSES: This study proposes a novel method based on microscopic simulation models to evaluate bicycle passing ways in mixed traffic flow conditions at signalized intersections. METHODS: Both operational efficiency and safety are taken into consideration in the evaluation. A widely used performance measure, delay, is used for evaluating the operational efficiency. Regarding the safety evaluation, surrogate safety measures (SSM) to represent traffic conflicts and the level of crash severity, DeltaS and Max.DeltaV, are applied in the proposed method. RESULTS: Extensive simulations and statistical tests show that an integrated bike-box way is identified as the best in terms of operational efficiency and safety. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed method and outcomes of this study will be valuable for bicycle traffic operations and facility design.

  • This study proposes an innovative measure for evaluating the performance of text clustering. In using K-means algorithm and Kohonen Networks for text clustering, the number clusters is fixed initially by configuring it as their parameter, while in using single pass algorithm for text clustering, the number of clusters is not predictable. Using labeled documents, the result of text clustering using K-means algorithm or Kohonen Network is able to be evaluated by setting the number of clusters as the number of the given target categories, mapping each cluster to a target category, and using the evaluation measures of text. But in using single pass algorithm, if the number of clusters is different from the number of target categories, such measures are useless for evaluating the result of text clustering. This study proposes an evaluation measure of text clustering based on intra-cluster similarity and inter-cluster similarity, what is called CI (Clustering Index) in this article.

  • Most real world design evaluation and risk-based decision support combine quantitative and qualitative (linguistic) variables. Decision making based on conventional mathematics that combines qualitative and quantitative concepts always exhibit difficulty in modelling actual problems. The successful selection process for choosing a design/procurement proposal is based on a high degree of technical integrity, safety levels and low costs in construction, corrective measures, maintenance, operation, inspection and preventive measures. In this paper, a design decision support framework using a composite structure methodology grounded in approximate reasoning approach and evidential reasoning method is suggested for design evaluation of machinery space of a ship engine room at the initial stages. An illustrative example is used to demonstrate the application of the proposed framework.

  • This study performed qualitative and quantitative risk assessment of equipment for evaluating the protocol of hydrogen refueling stations and suggested measures to improve safety. Hazard and operability study was performed for qualitative risk assessment, and Hy-KoRAM was used for quantitative risk assessment. Through a qualitative risk assessment, additional ventilation devices were installed, simultaneous venting of the storage container was prohibited, and the number of repeated refilling of the evaluation equipment was identified to manage the number of fillings of the container. Through quantitative risk assessment, the area around the device was set as a restricted area when evaluating the station, and measures were suggested to reduce the frequency of accidents.

  • 본 연구에서는 첨단교통모델도시건설사업 대상 도시에 구축된 ITS 시스템들을 대상으로 운영효율 평가 척도를 개발하고 또한 이들을 시스템 운영효율 평가에 적용하는 방법론을 개발하여 실제 운영효율 평가에 적용함으로써 이들의 향후 구축될 ITS 시스템 운영효율 평가에의 활용 가능성을 검토하였다.

이상자료가 연안 환경자료의 통계 척도에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Outliers on the Statistical Measures of the Environmental Monitoring Data in Busan Coastal Sea)

  • The statistical measures of the coastal environmental data are used in a variety of statistical inferences, hypothesis tests, and data-driven modeling. If the measures are biased, then the statistical estimations and models may also be biased and this potential for bias is great when data contain some outliers defined as extraordinary large or small data values. This study aims to suggest more robust statistical measures as alternatives to more commonly used measures and to assess the performance these robust measures through a quantitative evaluation of more typical measures, such as in terms of locations, spreads, and shapes, with regard to environmental monitoring data in the Busan coastal sea. The detection of outliers within the data was carried out on the basis of Rosner's test. About 5-10% of the nutrient data were found to contain outliers based on Rosner's test. After removal (zero-weighting) of the outliers in the data sets, the relative change ratios of the mean and standard deviation between before and after outlier-removal conditions revealed the figures 13 and 33%, respectively. The variation magnitudes of skewness and kurtosis are 1.36 and 8.11 in a decreasing trend, respectively. On the other hand, the change ratios for more robust measures regarding the mean and standard deviation are 3.7-10.5%, and the variation magnitudes of robust skewness and kurtosis are about only 2-4% of the magnitude of the non-robust measures. The robust measures can be regarded as outlier-resistant statistical measures based on the relatively small changes in the scenarios before and after outlier removal conditions.

Decision-making based on conventional mathematics that combines qualitative and quantitative concepts always exhibit difficulty in modelling actual problems. The successful selection process for choosing a design/procurement proposal is based on a high degree of technical integrity, safety levels and low costs in construction, corrective measures, maintenance, operation, inspection and preventive measures. However, the objectives of maximising the degree of technical performance, maximising the safety levels and minimising the costs incurred are usually in conflict, and the evaluation of the technical performance, safety and costs is always associated with uncertainties, especially for a novel system at the initial concept design stage. In this paper, a design-decision support framework using a composite structure methodology grounded in approximate reasoning approach and evidential reasoning method is suggested for design evaluation of machinery space of a ship engine room at the initial stages. It is a Multiple Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) or Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) framework, which provides a juxtaposition of cost, safety and technical performance of a system during evaluation to assist decision makers in selecting the winning design/procurement proposal that best satisfies the requirement in hand. An illustrative example is used to demonstrate the application of the proposed framework.

실내마감재의 친환경성능 판정기법 및 성능등급의 분류체계에 관한 연구 (A newly-established evaluation methodology of the sustainable performance degree of interior architectural finishes)

  • This paper aims to provide pragmatic application guidelines of the interior finish materials for apartment houses with newly-established evaluation methodology of the sustainable degree of interior products. With reference to the standards and criteria of domestic eco-labeling accreditation schemes for sustainable products in the area of architecture which focus on the sustainable elements classified as the health, recyclability, durability, and energy efficiency, in this study, a systematic evaluation method has been established for interior finish products with quantifiable indicators for sustainable performance. Base on the evaluation system introduced here, most interior finish products can be classified into a database and applied effectively to the realities from the perspective of the sustainability. There are the necessities of enforcement issues with the idea of revising or taking remedial measures of the current performance criteria of domestic eco-labeling accreditation to bolster their reliability. As well as already-commercialized products, hereafter, continued efforts are needed to control the whole process of manufacturing new interior finish products from their designing, constructing, consuming, recycling and to dismantling in terms of sustainability, which promises more pragmatic follow-up measures for the detail embodiment of the environment-friendly spaces.

제품의 제시 순서가 제품 평가에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (An Effect of Presentation Order on Product Evaluation)

  • The purpose of this research is to verify whether presentation order has an effect on the evaluation of products. In the empirical study, three types of humidifier and those of toaster were used. These products have 6 different sets of combination (3! = 3${\times}$2${\times}$1), and each set was evaluated by 15 subjects who were provided with two sets of images from humidifier and toaster in empirical study (N=90). Subjects completed measures assessing the five aspects: attractiveness, convenience, hygiene, efficiency and durability of the product. Each of the dependent measures was assessed on Likert-scale ranging 1 to 7. The ratings to the five aspects were added individually. Three types of humidifier and those of toaster were divided into 3 classes in terms of 'class A' which consists of the highest rated product, 'class C' which consists of the lowest rated product, and 'class B' which consists of the rest. Two main findings were discovered: First, the presentation order of both class A and class C influences the product evaluation whereas that of class B does not. As class A was presented as the last one, the subjects evaluated it the most positive. In the case of class C, on the contrary, when it is presented as the first is the best for itself; Secondly, the result shows that presented C-B-A sequence combination has a greater effect on entire evaluation than all other conditions in this study.
