In this paper, we compare and analyze the evacuation time required at a general hospital using an evacuation simulation program and propose an optimized procedure to improve safety. The paper analyzed the evacuation time of all occupants, including patients who cannot evacuate by themselves. The following four cases were analyzed in order: the width of evacuation stairs is 120cm, 130cm, 140cm, and 150cm. The results of the evacuation simulation showed that the total evacuation time is 1998s, 1796s, 1651s, and 1161s, respectively. For every 10cm increase in the width of the evacuation stairs, the evacuation time decreases by 202s, 145s, and 91s in sequence. The evacuation time decreases as the width of the evacuation stairs increases. However, the rate of reduction in evacuation time decreases. Therefore, simply increasing the width of evacuation stairs cannot significantly improve evacuation efficiency, and it is necessary to choose an appropriate width of evacuation stairs. In addition, all four cases simulations display that after 600 seconds, the evacuees are concentrated in two evacuation stairs, while there are very few evacuees in the other stairs. To solve this problem, it is necessary to disperse the movement route and consider multiple avoidance methods.

The aims of this study are to verify the relationships of evacuee speed and affections to the evacuation time according to the width of corridor and stairs in university education facilities. To achieve these purposes, the present conditions of university education facilities were analyzed, and the evacuation experiments were executed in relation to the width of corridor and stairs. The results of this study are as follows ; (1) The deviations of numbers of residents per stair is very high, and the number and width of stairs, corridors are only depend on the minimum guidelines of building code, not considering the residents' evacuation. (2) The width of corridor and stairs are affects on the evacuation speed and time. The rate of decreasing speed is large in stairs, and also the possibility of danger is increasing depend on the speed and density.
Article 36 of the Building Code Enforcement Ordinance requires that an exterior evacuation stairs be installed for the buildings of three stories and over with cultural facilities or gathering places which have over $1,000\;m^2$ floor area of public performance halls or recreational facilities. The concentration of population together with the increase of high-rise buildings in cities call for various precautionary measures to be taken against human disasters. For the past ten years high-rise buildings showed 85% of increase, marking a steep rise. This increase of high-rise buildings may lead to human disasters in urban areas and, in case of fire breakout, may cause great loss of human lives and property damages. The most difficult fire-fighting activities in high-rise building fires are those of evacuation. Because smoke spreads through the upper floors, the securement of evacuation route in high-rise buildings may be the only way to minimize loss of lives. In high-rise buildings exterior escape stairs are necessary because it is difficult to secure evacuation route with only direct stairs or interior stairs. The Building Code now in force provides insignificant coverage on the exterior evacuation route installment and therefore becomes an inadequate means for evacuation route securement in high-rise building fires. To compensate for this inadequacy the Building Code should be revised to include a mandatory clause that an exterior evacuation stairs be established for the buildings of ten stories and over which can be categorized into high-rise building group.
This study is intended to examine the effect of the evacuation guidance that used phosphorescent material for stairs in the event of smoke and failure of both the power to the lighting and illuminated sign. To achieve the purpose, the test stairs was established and 35 students(1st 20, 2nd 15) were examined the visibility, the convenience and the comfort of going up and down of stairs. The results of this study are as follows; The evacuation from stairs showed that the stair nosing and landing used phosphorescent material for was very effective in dark conditions(0 lux) because of the high visibility of stair nosing and the convenience and the comfort of going up and down of stairs. The phosphorescent material located on the stair nosing and stair landing will aid in evacuation from stairs in the event of failure of both the power to the lightings and illuminated sign.
In this study, a real-scale stairway model was constructed to analyze the evacuation safety of human life due to the change of flooded stair flow. In the experiment, the water depth and flow velocity at each stage of the stairs were measured and the specific force per unit width was calculated. Using the calculated the specific force per unit width, the evacuation safety of each steps of stairs according to the change of the flooded stair flow was presented. Finally, the depth of water measured by the experiment and the evacuation safety graph of "Ishigaki" by the specific force per unit width were combined to analyze the evacuation safety by depth. As a result, it has been found that evacuation of adult man is difficult without help at the flow depth of 0.20 m or more. And it has been found that evacuation of adult women and elderly men are difficult without help at the flow depth of 0.15 m or more. Finally, it has been found that evacuation of elderly women is difficult without help at depth of 0.13 m or more.
The purpose of this study is to present an alternative plan in order to reduce the required time to flee from the inside of the gosiwon in danger. The data were derived from changing the width of corridors and emergency exits and the number of stairs in the building EXODUS, which is computer simulation program, The analyzed conclusions from the data are following as below (1) Increasing the exits and the number of stairs are efficient to reduce the accumulated time for standing by. (2) Increasing the number of stairs is efficient to decrease the distance to get out of the building to exit. (3) Increasing the number of stairs is efficient to reduce the time to get out of the building to exit.
In the disaster prevention design, it is important point to secure escape way at event of fire which makes people away from the fire more quickly and safely. Development of construction techniques leads to build many skyscrapers, and skyscrapers contains various dangers and increase levels of disaster. At basic design stage for skyscrapers, evacuation scenario is considered that occupants are escape using escape stairs and emergency elevators simultaneously at fire, but there is no evacuation program to simulate using escape stairs and emergency elevators at the same time. In this study, evacuation simulation is performed using method of VR which is based on Virtools of 3DVIA Co., and Simulex of IES Co. for safety and effectiveness where occupants are escape using escape stairs and emergency elevators simultaneously at the fire.

According to the actual situation of a university, the emergency evacuation simulation is modeled based on the physical sign, evacuation speed and personnel ratio using the pathfinder software. The experimental construction export utilization rate is compared with the preliminary simulation scenario. The simulation results show that the utilization rate of evacuation stairs and evacuation exits is significantly improved. The optimized solution can provide the most effective evacuation passage, and the research results can provide the basis for the rational planning and management of evacuation passage in university experiment building.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the minimum effective width (90cm) of the exit of the evacuation stairway installed in accordance with the Building Act and the evacuation time of all occupants using the corresponding floor from an evacuation point of view. Method: The evacuation simulation (Pathfinder) was used to investigate how the change in doorway width affects the evacuation time of occupants. Result: It was found that as the effective width of the doorway became larger than the minimum standard of 90cm, the evacuation time to the evacuation stairs was shortened. This is also proof that the effective width of the evacuation stair entrance can be appropriately applied differently depending on the number of occupants on the floor. Conclusion: In the future, in order to secure evacuation safety of occupants, it is judged that the effective width standard for the exit of the evacuation stairway considering the total number of occupants by use is necessary. In addition, it is expected that the evacuation efficiency of occupants can be greatly increased if various effective width standards for entrances are made according to the number of occupants by use through research and experiments.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present an evacuation performance analysis model that can derive vulnerable evacuation spaces with considering the movement behavior as per the elderly groups in the event of a fire in a geriatric hospital. Methods: The evacuation characteristics of geriatric hospital users were investigated through the review of precedent studies. First, the occupant conditions and the evacuation scenario were set to analyze a study target hospital. Then, the evacuation simulation was carried out considering the group types and the density of each group. Finally, an evacuation performance analysis model according to the group type was presented based on the simulation results. Results: The results of this study are as follows: (1) The evacuation performance according to the group type is to be clarified through the suggested study model. (2) It is necessary to secure a ramp or an emergency elevator to distribute the evacuation personnel at the design stage because congestion occurs due to collisions between evacuees on the stairs and delays the evacuation time. (3) It is necessary to consider the evacuation stairs and openings of sufficient size by analyzing the frequency of congestion occurrence and the escape routes of occupants in advance to identify the space where the evacuation flow overlaps. Implications: It is expected that the study result is to be used as primary data for studies that consider the elderly and clustering evacuation behavior in the event of a fire in a geriatric hospital.
