  • The present work is concerned with the study of the influence of inhomogeneous initial stresses in a hollow cylinder containing a compressible inviscid fluid on the propagation of axisymmetric longitudinal waves propagating in this cylinder. The study is carried out using the so-called three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in bodies with initial stresses to describe the motion of the cylinder and using the linearized Euler equations to describe the flow of the compressible inviscid fluid. It is assumed that the inhomogeneous initial stresses in the cylinder are caused by the internal pressure of the fluid. To solve the corresponding eigenvalue problem, the discrete-analytic solution method is applied and the corresponding dispersion equation is obtained, which is solved numerically, after which the corresponding dispersion curves are constructed and analyzed. To obtain these dispersion curves, parameters characterizing the magnitude of the internal pressure, the ratio of the sound velocities in the cylinder material and in the fluid, and the ratio of the material densities of the fluid and the cylinder are introduced. Based on these parameters, the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses in the cylinder on the dispersion of the above-mentioned waves in the considered hydro-elastic system is investigated. Moreover, based on these results, appropriate conclusions about this influence are drawn. In particular, it is found that the character of the influence depends on the wavelength. Accordingly, the inhomogeneous initial stresses before (after) a certain value of the wavelength lead to a decrease (increase) of the wave propagation velocity in the zeroth and first modes.

  • Recently, the design of scaffolding systems has garnered considerable attention due to the increasing number of scaffold collapses. These incidents arise from the underestimation of imposed loads and the site-specific conditions that restrict the application of lateral restraints in scaffold assemblies. The present study is committed to augmenting the buckling resistance of vertical support members, obviating the need for supplementary lateral restraints. To achieve this objective, experimental and computational analyses were performed to assess the axial load buckling capacity of steel props, composed of two hollow steel pipes that slide into each other for a certain length. Three full-scale steel props with various geometric properties were tested to construct and validate the analytical models. The total unsupported length of the steel props is 6 m, while three pins were installed to tighten the outer and inner pipes in the distance they overlapped. Finite Element (FE) modeling is carried out for the three steel props, and the developed models were verified using the experimental results. Also, theoretical analysis is utilized to verify the FE analysis. Using the FE-verified models, a parametric study is conducted to evaluate the effect of different inserted pipe lengths on the steel props' axial load capacity and lateral displacement. Based on the results, the typical failure mode for the studied steel props is global elastic buckling. Also, the prop's elastic buckling strength is sensitive to the inserted length of the smaller pipe. A threshold of minimum inserted length is one-third of the total length, after which the buckling strength increases. The present study offers a prop with enhanced buckling resistance and introduces an equation for calculating an equivalent effective length factor (k), which can be seamlessly incorporated into Euler's buckling equation, thereby facilitating the determination of the buckling capacity of the enhanced props and providing a pragmatic engineering solution.

  • There is to be virtually impossible to solve the very large digits of prime number p and q from composite number n=pq using integer factorization in typical public-key cryptosystems, RSA. When the public key e and the composite number n are known but the private key d remains unknown in an asymmetric-key RSA, message decryption is carried out by first obtaining ${\phi}(n)=(p-1)(q-1)=n+1-(p+q)$ and then using a reverse function of $d=e^{-1}(mod{\phi}(n))$. Integer factorization from n to p,q is most widely used to produce ${\phi}(n)$, which has been regarded as mathematically hard. Among various integer factorization methods, the most popularly used is the congruence of squares of $a^2{\equiv}b^2(mod\;n)$, a=(p+q)/2,b=(q-p)/2 which is more commonly used then n/p=q trial division. Despite the availability of a number of congruence of scares methods, however, many of the RSA numbers remain unfactorable. This paper thus proposes an algorithm that directly and immediately obtains ${\phi}(n)$. The proposed algorithm computes $2^k{\beta}_j{\equiv}2^i(mod\;n)$, $0{\leq}i{\leq}{\gamma}-1$, $k=1,2,{\ldots}$ or $2^k{\beta}_j=2{\beta}_j$ for $2^j{\equiv}{\beta}_j(mod\;n)$, $2^{{\gamma}-1}$ < n < $2^{\gamma}$, $j={\gamma}-1,{\gamma},{\gamma}+1$ to obtain the solution. It has been found to be capable of finding an arbitrarily located ${\phi}(n)$ in a range of $n-10{\lfloor}{\sqrt{n}}{\rfloor}$ < ${\phi}(n){\leq}n-2{\lfloor}{\sqrt{n}}{\rfloor}$ much more efficiently than conventional algorithms.

  • The vehicle-track structure dynamic interaction analysis problem can be treated as sliding contact problem, and it is assumed that vehicle run at a constant speed over a rail modeled as beam elements. Unfortunately, Salome-Meca can not satisfy the compatibility condition for the beam master elements, which are consist of the elements with higher order polynomial shape function, in sliding contact problem. In this study, it is suggested to use more finer beam master element mesh as the remedy for incompatibility in sliding contact problem, and the accuracy of the solution is secured. For this, the effect of beam element mesh refinement consisting runway is analysed through simple examples, and the applicability to the dynamic interaction analysis is evaluated. Finally, the dynamic interaction analysis of railway skewed culvert transition problem is carried out to evaluate the effect of supporting stiffness due to backfill pattern changes and track irregularity due to uneven subgrade settlement.

  • In this study, the numerical method is presented, which can consider the various train types and can solve the equations of motion for a vehicle-bridge interaction analysis by non-iteration procedure through formulating the coupled equations of motion. The coupled equations of motion for the vehicle-bridge interaction are solved by the Newmark ${\beta}$ of a direct integration method, and by composing the effective stiffness matrix and the effective force vector according to a analysis step, those can be solved with the same manner of the solving procedure of equilibrium equations in static analysis. Also, the effective stiffness matrix is reconstructed by the Skyline method for increasing the analysis effectiveness. The Cholesky's matrix decomposition scheme is applied to the analysis procedure for minimizing the numerical errors that can be generated in directly calculating the inverse matrix. The equations of motion for the conventional trains are derived, and the numerical models of the conventional trains are idealized by a set of linear springs and dashpots with 16 degrees of freedom. The bridge models are simplified by the 3 dimensional space frame element which is based on the Euler-Bernoulli theory. The rail irregularities of vertical and lateral directions are generated by the PSD functions of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The results of the vehicle-bridge interaction analysis are verified by the experimental results for the railway plate girder bridges of a span length with 12 m, 18 m, and the experimental and analytical data are applied to the low pass filtering scheme, and the basis frequency of the filtering is a 2 times of the 1st fundamental frequency of a bridge bending.
