The baby-step giant-step algorithm seeks b in a discrete logarithm problem when a,c,p of $a^b{\equiv}c$(mod p) are already given. It does so by dividing p by m block of $m={\lceil}{\sqrt{p}}{\rceil}$ length and letting one giant walk straight toward $a^0$ with constant m strides in search for b. In this paper, I basically reduce $m={\lceil}{\sqrt{p}}{\rceil}$ to p/l, $a^l$ > p and replace a giant with an adult who is designed to walk straight with constant l strides. I also extend the algorithm to allow $2^k$ adults to walk simultaneously. As a consequence, the proposed algorithm quarters the execution time of the basic adult-walk method when applied to $2^k$, (k=2) in the range of $1{\leq}b{\leq}p-1$. In conclusion, the proposed algorithm greatly shorten the step number of baby-step giant-step.

In this paper, an Euler equation solver based on a Cartesian-grid method and non-uniform staggered grid system is applied to predict the ship motion response and added resistance in waves. Water, air, and solid domains are identified by a volume-fraction function for each phase and in each cell. For capturing the interface between air and water, the tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) scheme is used with a weighed line interface calculation (WLIC) method. The volume fraction of solid body embedded in a Cartesian-grid system is calculated by a level-set based algorithm, and the body boundary condition is imposed by volume weighted formula. Added resistance is calculated by direct pressure integration on the ship surface. Numerical simulations for a Wigley III hull and an S175 containership in regular waves have been carried out to validate the newly developed code, and the ship motion responses and added resistances are compared with experimental data. For S175 containership, grid convergence test has been conducted to investigate the sensitivity of grid spacing on the motion responses and added resistances.

This paper concerns about total dynamic analysis of integrated mining system. This system consists of vertical steel pipe, intermediate buffer station, flexible pipe and self-propelled miner. The self-propelled miner and buffer are assumed as rigid-body of 6-dof. Discrete models of vertical steel pipe and flexible pipe are adopted, which are obtained by means of lumped-parameter method. The motion of mining vessel is not considered. Instead, the motion of mining vessel is taken into account in form of various boundary conditions (e.g. forced excitation in slow motion and/or fast oscillation and so on). A terramechanics model of extremely soft cohesive soil is applied to the self-propelled miner. The hydrodynamic forces and moments are included in the dynamic models of vehicle and lifting pipe system. Hinged and fixed constraints are used to define the connections between sub-systems (vertical steel pipe, buffer, flexible pipe, miner). Equations of motion of the coupled model are derived with respect to the each local coordinates system. Four Euler parameters are used to express the orientations of the sub-systems. To solve the equations of motion of the total dynamic model, an incremental-iterative formulation is employed. Newmark-b method is used for time-domain integration. The total dynamic responses of integrated mining system are investigated.

This manuscript tends to investigate influences of nanoscale and surface energy on a static bending and free vibration of piezoelectric perforated nanobeam structural element, for the first time. Nonlocal differential elasticity theory of Eringen is manipulated to depict the long-range atoms interactions, by imposing length scale parameter. Surface energy dominated in nanoscale structure, is included in the proposed model by using Gurtin-Murdoch model. The coupling effect between nonlocal elasticity and surface energy is included in the proposed model. Constitutive and governing equations of nonlocal-surface perforated Euler-Bernoulli nanobeam are derived by Hamilton's principle. The distribution of electric potential for the piezoelectric nanobeam model is assumed to vary as a combination of a cosine and linear variation, which satisfies the Maxwell's equation. The proposed model is solved numerically by using the finite-element method (FEM). The present model is validated by comparing the obtained results with previously published works. The detailed parametric study is presented to examine effects of the number of holes, perforation size, nonlocal parameter, surface energy, boundary conditions, and external electric voltage on the electro-mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric perforated nanobeams. It is found that the effect of surface stresses becomes more significant as the thickness decreases in the range of nanometers. The effect of number of holes becomes significant in the region 0.2 ≤ α ≤ 0.8. The current model can be used in design of perforated nano-electro-mechanical systems (PNEMS).
In the present study, two phase flows around a projectile vertically launched from an underwater platform have been numerically investigated by using a three dimensional multi-phase RANS flow solver based on pseudo-compressibility and a homogeneous mixture model on unstructured meshes. The relative motion between the platform and projectile was described by six degrees of freedom equations of motion with Euler angles and a chimera technique. The propulsive power of the projectile was modeled as the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the body by the compressed air emitted from the underwater platform. Various flow conditions were considered to analyze the fluid-dynamics motion parameters of the projectile. The water level of platform and the current speed around the projectile were the main parametric variables. The numerical calculations were conducted up to 0.75sec in physical time scale. The dynamics tendency of the projectile was almost identical with respect to the water level variation due to the constant buoyancy term. The moving speed of the projectile along the vertical axis inside the platform decreased when the current speed increased. This is because the inflow from outside of the platform impeded development of the compressed air emitted from the floor surface of the launch platform. As a result, the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the projectile decreased, and injection time of the projectile from the platform was delayed.
The guideline of selecting the number of snapshot dataset, $N_s$ in proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) was presented via the analysis of Eigen values based on the singular value decomposition(SVD). In POD, snapshot datasets from the solutions of Euler or Navier-Stokes equations are utilized to SVD and a reduced order model(ROM) is constructed as the combination of Eigen vectors. The ROM is subsequently applied to reconstruct the flowfield data with new set of flow conditions, thereby enhancing the computational efficiency. The overall computational efficiency and accuracy of POD is dependent on the number of snapshot dataset; however, there is no reliable guideline of determining $N_s$. In order to resolve this problem, the order of maximum to minimum Eigen value ratio, O(R) from SVD was analyzed and presented for the decision of $N_s$; in case of steady flow, $N_s$ should be determined to make O(R) be $10^9$. For unsteady flow, $N_s$ should be increased to make O(R) be $10^{11\sim12}$. This strategy of selecting the snapshot dataset was applied to two dimensional NACA0012 airfoil and vortex flow problems including steady and unsteady cases and the numerical accuracies according to $N_s$ and O(R) were discussed.

The objective of this paper is to provide a method of optimizing are as of the members as well as shape of both truss and arch structures. The design process includes satisfaction of stress and Euler buckling stress constraints for truss and combined stress constraints for arch structures. In order to reduce the number of detailed finite element analysis, the Force Approximation Method is used. A finite element analysis of the initial structure is performed and the gradients of the member end forces are calculated with respect to the areas and nodal coordinates. The gradients are used to form an approximate structural analysis based on first order Taylor series expansions of the member end forces. Using move limits, a numerical optimizer minimizes the volume of the structure with information from the approximate structural analysis. Numerical examples are performed and compared with other methods to demonstrate the efficiency and reliability of the Force Approximation Method for shape optimization. It is shown that the number of finite element analysis is greatly reduced and that it leads to a highly efficient method of shape optimization of structures.

This paper is about the study on a newly developed small waterproofed 4-axis robot arm and the analysis of its kinematics and dynamics. The structure of robot arm is designed to have Pitch-Pitch-Pitch-Yaw joint motion for inspection using a camera on itself and the joint actuator driving capacity are selected and the joint actuators are designed and test for 10m waterproofness. The closed-form solution for the robot arm is derived through the forward and inverse kinematics analysis. Also, the dynamics model equation including the damping force due to the mechanical seal for waterproofness is derived using Newton-Euler method. Using derived dynamics equation, a sliding mode controller is designed to track the desired path of the developed robot arm, and its performance is verified through a simulation.

This study is performed to study the effect of the tray in the absorber of a flue-gas desulphurization (FGD) system by using a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) technique. Stagnant time of slurry and the pressure drop in the FGD absorber increase when a tray is used in the absorber. Stagnant time of slurry results in an increase in the desulfurization effect and a decrease in the power of the absorber recirculation pump; however, increased pressure drop requires more power of booster fan in the FGD system should be increased. The gas and slurry hydrodynamics inside the absorber is simulated using a commercial CFD code. The continuous gas phase has been modeled in an Eulerian framework, while the discrete liquid phase has been modeled by adopting a Lagrangian approach by tracking a large number of particles through the computational domain. It was observed that the power saved upon increasing the stagnant time of slurry was more than increased power with pressure drop.

The Usages of composite materials have been steadily on the rise in the industries of automobiles, air crafts, shipbuilding and other structures for transportations. Commonly required in those industries are light weight and high strength of the structures. Consequently, serious efforts in research have been focused on searching for light materials and on developments and characterizations of advanced substitutes including various kinds of composite materials. In this investigation, transversely isotropic composite materials are chosen and formed into two kinds of beams; Euler-Bernoulli beam(thin team) and Timoshenko beam(thick beam) for determinations of elastic constants. As an experimental technique Impulse Excitation Method is utilized to measure resonance frequencies of the beams of the composite materials in vibration tests. Elastic constants are evaluated from measured resonance frequencies for the two types of beams to observe and establish possible existence of effects of rotary inertia and shear deformations.
