Precipitation of Eu3+ - Yb3+ Codoped ZnAl2O4 Nanocrystals on Glass Surface by CO2 Laser Irradiation

  • We present a novel and simple method to enable spatially selective $ZnAl_2O_4$ nanocrystal formation on the surface of $B_2O_3$-$Al_2O_3$-ZnO-CaO-$K_2O$ glass by employing localized laser heating. Optimized precipitation of glass-ceramics containing nanocrystals doped with $Eu^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ ions was performed by controlling $CO_2$ laser power and scan speed. Micro-x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealed the mean size and morphology of nanocrystals, and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy showed the lateral distribution of elements in the imaged area. Laser power and scan speed controled annealing temperature for crystalization in the range of 1.4-1.8 W and 0.01-0.3 mm/s, and changed the size of nanocrystals and distribution of dopant ions. We also report more than 20 times enhanced downshift visible emission under ultraviolet excitation, and 3 times increased upconversion emission from $Eu^{3+}$ ions assisted by efficient sensitizer $Yb^{3+}$ ions in nanocrystals under 980 nm excitation. The confocal microscope revealed the depth profile of $Eu^{3+}$ ions by showing their emission intensity variation.

습식공정에 의한 형광물질 $SrAl_2O_4:Eu$ 분말 합성 및 형광 특성 (Study on the Synthesis of Phosphor, $SrAl_2O_4:Eu$ by Wet Processing and its Characteristics of Photoluminescence)

  • 본 연구에서는 수열합성법으로 $SrAl_2O_4:Eu$ 형광체 분말을 합성하여 이들의 발광 특성과 장잔광 특성 등에 대해서 고찰하였다. 증류수에 $Sr(NO_3)_2,\;Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O,\;Eu(NO_3)_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ 등의 금속염을 용해시킨 용액을 $NH_4OH$ 수용액으로 pH를 적당히 조절하고 고온 고압의 Autoclave 반응용기 내에서 반응시켰다. 이렇게 합성된 분말은 균일한 입도 분포를 나타내었으면, sub-micron 크기의 초미세 분말이었다. 합성된 $SrAl_2O_4:Eu$ 초미세 분말을 $Ar-H_2$ 가스 환원분위기에서 $1100-1400^{\circ}C$ 온도로 2시간동안 열처리시켜서 형광 특성을 나타내도록 만들었다. 분말의 여기 및 발광 특성을 측정한 길과, 발광파장을 520 nm로 고정시켜 측정한 여기스펙트럼은 $250\~450nm$의 넓은 파장영역에 걸쳐 여기가 일어났고, 발광스펙트럼은 520 nm에서 최대 피크를 나타내었다. 또한 10분간 여기 시킨 후 520 nm 파장에 대한 잔광 특성이 1000분 이상 지속되는 우수한 장잔광 특성을 나타내었다.

Impact of Sintering Gas Pressure on Deep-red EuSi2O2N2 Phosphors

  • Deep red EuSi2O2N2 phosphors were synthesized under various sintering gas pressures (1 atm, 2 atm, and 3 atm). They were in good agreement with the standard EuSi2O2N2 ICSD card # 41-6046 (a monoclinic crystal system with space group of P21/a). Their photoluminescence intensities were significantly increased with increasing the gas pressures. They showed a broad band emission peaking at 680 nm due to 4f65d1 - 4f7 of Eu2+ ion, which can be efficiently excited in the visible range up to 550 nm. The best one at 3 atm was applied for red LED based on blue chip, which showed the strong deep red emission.

  • Laser induced photoacoustic, fluorescence, and photon correlation spectroscopies were applied to the chemical characterization of radionuclides in connection with the radiowaste treatment and disposal. Their measuring principles and systems were briefly described together with their advantages over conventional spectroscopies. Also, other applications of lasers are introduced. Laser induced photoacoustic spectra were measured for a P $r^{3+}$ solution with a very low molar absorptivity. The detection sensitivity was 4.3 $\times$10$^{-5}$ c $m^{1}$ and was 100 times better than that of a UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The Eu(III) excitation spectra($^{7}$ $F_{0}$ longrightarrow $^{5}$ $D_{0}$ transition) were measured for Eu(III)-phthalate complexes using laser fluorescence spectroscopy, showing that only two species, 1:1 and 1:2 complexes, are present in the Eu(III)-phthalic acid system. The size and size distribution for colloidal humic acids and Eu(III)-humate colloids was determined using photon correlation spectroscopy. The presence of Eu(III) enhanced the aggregation of humic acids.s.

  • $Eu_2(SO_4)_3$ was synthesized by chemical precipitation method and the crystal structure was determined by Rietveld analysis. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/c. In the air environment, $Eu_2(SO_4)_3$ is stable up to $670^{\circ}C$. The sample of $Eu_2(SO_4)_3$ was examined by Raman, Fourier-transform infrared absorption and luminescence spectroscopy methods. The low site symmetry of $SO_4$ tetrahedra results in the appearance of the IR inactive ${\nu}_1$ mode around $1000cm^{-1}$ and ${\nu}_2$ modes below $500cm^{-1}$. The band intensities redistribution in the luminescent spectra of $Eu^{3+}$ ions is analyzed in terms of the peculiarities of its local environment.

  • In this article, pure $m-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ and $t-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ nanocrystals were prepared by an EG-assisted hydrothermal method with regular shapes. A series of controlled experiments showed that the pH value of a mixed solution, the volume ratio of $EG/H_2O$ and the dosage of the doped $Eu^{3+}$ all had an important effect on the sizes and shapes of the final products. Furthermore, the constitutional unit of the products changed from 0D to 2D with an increase in the EG dosage. The PL results showed that $t-LaVO_4$ doped with $Eu^{3+}$ ions had better luminescence properties than $m-LaVO_4$ due to its special structure. All of these results not only expand our understanding of the luminescence properties of lanthanide orthovanadates, but they also elucidate the principles of the crystal growth.

몇가지 희토류원소의 DC 폴라로그램에 관한 연구 (Studies on DC Polarograms of Some Rare Earth Elements)

  • 몇가지 희토류 원소의 DC폴라로그램을 여러 가지 지지전해질과 여러 pH용액에서 얻었다. $Sm^{3+}$은 0.1 M NaCl 지지전해질에서 두 단계 환원파가 -1.75 V와 -1.95 V에서 나타났고 확산 지배파였다. 0.1 M $(C_2H_5)_4NCl$ 지지전해질에서 $Eu^{3+}$은 -0.75 V와 -1.95 V에서, $Yb^{3+}$은 -1.45 V 와 -2.0 V에서 두 단계 환원파가 나타났다. $La^{3+}$$Nd^{3+}$은 -1.75 V 근처에서 단일 환원파만이 나타났다. $Eu^{3+}$, $Yb^{3+}$$Sm^{3+}$의 반파전위의 차는 이들 이온의 분리 정량을 가능하게 하였다. $Eu^{3+}$과 EDTA 및 Diethylenetriamine pentacetic acid (DTPA) 간의 착물의 생성상수를 구한 결과 문헌값과 일치 하였다.

경주 남산일대의 A-형 화강암의 암석학 및 지화학적 특성 (Petrology and Geochemical Characteristics of A-type Granite with Particular Reference to the Namsan Granite, Kyeongju)

  • 한반도 남동부 경주시 일원에 분포하는 남산화강암체에서 산출되는 A-형 화강암에 대한 암석학 및 지화학적 특성에 대하여 고찰하였다. 남산화강암체는 북부의 하이퍼솔브스 알칼리장석화강암과 남부의 서브솔브스 알칼리장석화강암 및 흑운모화강암으로 구성된다. 이들 중 하이퍼솔브스 화강암은 정동구조를 나타내며, 특징적으로 퍼다이트 조직을 나타내는 알칼리장석, 석영과 이들 사이의 간극을 충진하고 있는 철이 풍부한 흑운모와 알칼리각섬석 및 형석으로 구성되며, 석영과 알칼리장석은 종종 미문상조직을 나타낸다.남산화강암체의 하이퍼솔브스화강암 및 서브솔브스호강암은 암석기재 또는 지화학적 특징을 볼 때, 각 I-형의 불국사회강암류와 구분된다. 즉 높은 $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$, $Na_2O+K_2O$, Rb, Nb, Y, Zr, Ga, Th, Ce, U 함량을 나타내며, $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, CaO, $P_2O_5$, MnO, MgO, Ba, Sr, Eu등은 낮은 함량을 나타낸다. 또한 높은 Ga/Al비를 나타내며, 희토류원소의 전체함량이 약 293-466 ppm 으로 분화가 상당히 많이 진행된 화강암의 조성을 보여주며, 희토류원소의 변화패톤도 특징적으로 심한 Eu'-'이상(Eu/$Eu^{\ast}$=0.03~0.05)을 나타내는 편평 백립암질 물질이, 맨틀로부터 새로운 열원의 공급에 의해, 고온에서 부분용융되어 만들어진 A-형 마그마로부터 유래하였을 가능성을 나타낸다.

Continuous Nanocomposite Coatings on a Phosphor for the Enhancement of the Long-term Stability

  • [ $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ ], a red phosphor, coated with silica nanoparticles or nanocomposites composed of silica nanoparticles and polymeric materials such as PMMA and PVP was prepared via sol-gel process. Samples were prepared from four different methods coded P1, P2, P3, and P4. P1 includes a conventional sol-gel process and a dip-coating method while P2 has the same procedure with P1 except that nanocomposites containing both silica nanoparticles and polymer prepared by sol-gel process were used as coating materials. In P3 method, phosphors were dispersed in a solution containing silica precursor, i.e., TEOS and then polymerization was performed to coat onto the phosphors surface while P4 followed the same procedure with P3 except that a solution containing both TEOS and organic monomer were used in preparing coating materials. Among various coating methods examined in this study, uniform coating of phosphor could be achieved by using method P4, i.e., phosphor surface coating in a solution containing hydrophobic monomer and TEOS. Furthermore, $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ red phosphor coated with nanocomposite composed of PMMA matrix and silica nanoparticles exhibited enhanced PL intensity and long-term stability.

란탄족 원소의 전기화학적 환원에 관한 연구 (제 1 보) (Electrochemical Studies on the Lanthanides)

  • 수용액에서 가벼운 란탄족 금속이온의 전기화학적 거동을 직류 폴라로그래피, 펄스차이 폴라로그래피 및 순환 전압전류법으로 연구하였다. La$^{3+}$, Pr$^{3+}$ 및 Nd$^{3+}$의 환원은 0.1 M LiCl 지지전해질에서 3전자가 관여하는 비가역적인 반응이었다. Sm$^{3+}$의 환원은 0.1 M TMAI 지지전해질에서 1전자에 이어 2전자가 관여하는 비가역적인 반응이었으며, Eu$^{3+}$의 환원은 0.1 M LiCl 지지전해질에서 1전자에 이어 2전자가 관여하는 유사가역반응 및 비가역반응이었다. 펄스차이 폴라로그래피에 의하면 pH 4 이하에서는 수소이온의 촉매효과에 의하여 가수분해된 란탄족 금속이온 (Ln(OH)$^{2+}$)은 란탄족 금속이온(Ln$^{3+}$)보다 양전위에서 환원되었으며, 봉우리 전류의 크기는 Eu$^{3+}$ < Sm$^{3+}$ < Nd$^{3+}$ < Pr$^{3+}$ < La$^{3+}$ 순으로 증가하였다. 순환 전압전류법에서 주사속도 변화에 대한 전류함수의 크기는 [H$^{+}$]/[Ln$^{3+}$]의 비에 의존하였으며, pH 및 란탄족 금속이온의 농도가 낮을수록 수소이온에 의한 반응 또는 촉매전류가 증가하였다.
