Synthesis of the Multifunctional Core/Intermediate/Shell Nanoparticles: Tunable Magnetic and Photoluminescence Properties (자성 및 발광 특성이 조절 가능한 다기능 코어/중간체/쉘 나노 입자 합성)

  • Fe3O4/SiO2/YVO4:Eu3+ multifunctional nanoparticles are successfully synthesized by facile stepwise sol-gel processes. The multifunctional nanoparticles show a spherical shape with narrow size distribution (approximately 40 nm) and the phosphor shells are well crystallized. The Eu3+ shows strong photoluminescence (red emission at 619 nm, absorbance at 290 nm) due to an effective energy transfer from the vanadate group to Eu. Core-shell structured multifunctional nanoparticles have superparamagnetic properties at 300 K. Furthermore, the core-shell nanoparticles have a quick response time for the external magnetic field. These results suggest that the photoluminescence and magnetic properties could be easily tuned by either varying the number of coating processes or changing the phosphor elements. The nanoparticles may have potential applications for appropriate fields such as laser systems, optical amplifiers, security systems, and drug delivery materials.

  • $KSrPO_4$ and $Sr_3(Al_2O_5)Cl_2$ phosphors doped with $Eu^{2+}$ emit a blue and orange-yellow luminescence under ultraviolet (UV) excitation at ~ 400 nm, respectivel, which can be used for making white light emitting diodes.

  • 본 연구에서는 Digital radiography(DR) 의 X선 필름 제작방식인 직 간접방식의 장점을 가지는 하이브리드 X선 필름를 수행하였다. 형광체로는 Gd2O3:Eu를 제작하였고, 광도전체로는 낮은 누설전류의 특성을 보이는 PbO를 사용하여 Screen printing 방식으로 100um, 200unm, 300um의 두께를 가진 X선 필름을 제작하였다. 그 결과 200un의 두께를 가진 하이브리드 X선 검출기의 Signal 10 noise 의 값이 기존의 사용화 되고 있는 a-Se 기반의 X선 필름보다 200 이상의 SNR을 얻을 수 있었다. 아직까지 기초 단계에 있는 하이브리드 X선 필름의 제작 방식은 향후 더 많은 연구를 통해 기존의 방식을 대체 할 수 있는 신기술, 신개념의 제조공정이 될 것으로 사료된다.

Petrology of the Tertiary Basaltic Rocks in the Yeonil and Eoil Basins, Southeastern Korea (한반도 동남부 제3기 연일, 어일분지에 나타나는 현무암질암의 암석학적 연구)

  • Eoil basalt in the Eoil basin and Yeonil basalt and its related volcanic rocks in Guryongpo and Daebo area were researched and analyzed to purse the tectonic settings and magma characteristics of those Tertiary volcanic rocks in the south-east Korean peninsula. It is highly suggested that zoning, resorption and sieve texture in plagioclase and reaction rim in pyroxene indicate unstable tectonic environments and complex volcanism in the study area. Volcanic rocks from Janggi basin are identified as basalt and basaltic andesite in TAS diagram and sub-alkaline series in terms of magma differentiation. $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ show positive trend however FeO, CaO, MgO and $P_2O_5$ indicate negative trend in Harker variation diagram with $SiO_2$. Basaltic rocks from Eoil area are identified as calc-alkaline series in AFM diagram and show medium K series calc-alkaline in $K_2O-SiO_2$ diagram. Compatible trace elements of Co, Ni, V, Zn, and Sc in Yeonil basalt show negative trend with crystallization but incompatible trace element of Ba, Rb show positive trend with $SiO_2$ 0.81~1.00 of $Eu/Eu^*$ value suggests minor effect of plagioclase fractionation in Yeonil basaltic rocks. Plagioclase composition of Eoil basalt ranges from $An_{63.46-98.38}\;Ab_{1.62-32.96}\;Or_{0-3.58}$ (anorthite-labradorite) in core to $An_{40.89-82.44}\;Ab_{17.10-46.43}\;Or_{0-12.68}$ (bytownite-labradorite) in rim. $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ and 143Nd;t44Nd ranges 0.704090~0.704717 and 0.512705~0.512822 respectively. Negative linear trends in 87Sr/86Sr and $^{143}Nd/^{144}Nd$ correlation diagram indicate that magma produced Yeonil basalt and basaltic andesite has been originated as partial melting product of mantle wedge by subducting Pacific plate affected by oceanic crust with less effect of continental crust indicating calc-alkaline magma characteristics.

  • It is suggested that the bismate glass system is one of alternatives to the lead glass for barrier-ribs in PDP. Moreover it is necessary to investigate the resultant change in properties with addition of ceramic fillers. Glass frit was selected to be a $Bi_2O_3-ZnO-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$ and two fillers, ZnO and $Al_2O_3$ were added into a glass matrix with the different content. We investigated thermal, chemical properties of bismate glass system with two different fillers. We confirmed that addition of fillers effects properties of composites such as the thermal expansion coefficient, etching mechanism.

  • Several main nuclides($^{241}Am$, $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$) in radioactive waste solution were selected and examined to mutual separation with di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid by solvent extraction technique. $^{237}Np$ was extracted more than 99.9% adding the $H_2O_2$ that was a good reductant for the oxidation state control of $^{237}Np$. $^{241}Am$, $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$ could be fairly well separated one another during the different sequence stripping stages, but about 7~9.6% of the other nuclides were still remained for the $^{241}Am$ stripping solution. This result shows that the product of $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$ was good, but $^{241}Am$ may be needed to further purification process. It was also discussed on the cause of the third phase formation phenomenon that was found in the solvent regeneration.

  • 중공 발광 나노 물질은 특유의 구조적 특성(낮은 밀도, 높은 비표면적, 다공성 물질, 낮은 열팽창계수 등)과 광학적 성질을 이용하여 디스플레이 패널, 광결정, 약물전달체, 바이오 이미징 라벨 등의 다양한 적용이 가능하다. 이러한 적용에 있어 균일한 크기와 형태의 중공 입자는 필수 조건으로 여겨진다. 지금까지 합성된 중공 발광 입자에는 BaMgAl10O17 : Eu2+-Nd3+, Gd2O3 : Eu3+, $EuPO_4{\cdot}H_2O$과 같은 것들이 있으나 크기 조절이 어렵고, 그 균일성이 확보되지 못하였다. 균일한 크기의 중공 발광 입자를 만들기 위해 SiO2나 emulsion을 템플릿으로 이용하여 황화카드뮴, 카드뮴 셀레나이드 중공 입자를 합성한 예가 있으나, 양자점의 독성으로 인하여 바이오분야 응용에는 적합하지 않다. YAG는 모체로써 형광체에서 가장 많이 이용되는 물질로, 화학적 안정성과 낮은 독성, 높은 양자 효율 등 많은 장점을 갖고 있다. 특히 세륨이 도핑된 YAG형광체의 경우 WLED, 신틸레이터, 바이오산업에 적용이 가능하다. 그러나 지금까지 중공 YAG:Ce3+형광체를 합성한 예가 없었다. 본 연구에서는 단분산 수화 알루미늄 (Al(OH)3) 입자 위에 세륨이 도핑 된 이트륨 베이직 카보네이트 ($Y(OH)CO_3$)를 균일하게 코팅한 후 열처리를 하여 균일한 크기의 Y3Al5O12:Ce3+(YAG) 중공 입자를 합성하였다. 열처리 온도에 따른 고분해능 투과 전자 현미경(HRTEM), X-선 회절(XRD), 고분해능 에너지 분광법(HREDX) 분석결과, 중공 YAG: Ce3+입자는 Kirkendall 효과에 의해 형성됨을 확인하였다. 전계방사형 주사 전자 현미경(FE-SEM) 측정을 통해, 열처리 후에도 입자의 크기와 형태가 균일함을 확인하였으며, 공초점 현미경 관찰을 통해 중공 형태를 명확히 확인 할 수 있었다. Photoluminescence (PL) 분광법과 형광 수명 이미징 현미경(FLIM)을 이용한 광 특성 분석결과, 합성된 입자는 400-500 nm에서 흡수 파장 (456 nm에서 최대 강도)과 500-700 nm 범위의 발광 파장(544 nm에서 최대 강도)을 나타냈고, 상용 YAG: Ce3+(70 ns)에 준하는 74 ns의 잔광 시간(decay time)이 측정되었다. 단분산 수화 알루미늄 입자의 크기를 조절하여 최종 합성된 YAG: Ce3+의 크기를 조절할 수 있었다. 지름 약 600 nm의 Al(OH)3를 사용한 경우, $1,300^{\circ}C$에서 열처리를 한 후 평균 지름 590 nm의 중공입자를 합성하였고, 약 170 nm의 Al(OH)3를 이용하여, 더 낮은 온도인 $1,100^{\circ}C$에서의 열처리를 통해 평균지름 140 nm의 중공 YAG: Ce3+입자를 합성하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 합성된 균일한 크기의 YAG 중공입자는 LED와 같은 광전변환 소자 및 다기능성 바이오 이미징 등의 나노바이오 소자 분야에 활용될 수 있음이 기대된다.

Continuous Nanocomposite Coatings on a Phosphor for the Enhancement of the Long-term Stability

  • [ $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ ], a red phosphor, coated with silica nanoparticles or nanocomposites composed of silica nanoparticles and polymeric materials such as PMMA and PVP was prepared via sol-gel process. Samples were prepared from four different methods coded P1, P2, P3, and P4. P1 includes a conventional sol-gel process and a dip-coating method while P2 has the same procedure with P1 except that nanocomposites containing both silica nanoparticles and polymer prepared by sol-gel process were used as coating materials. In P3 method, phosphors were dispersed in a solution containing silica precursor, i.e., TEOS and then polymerization was performed to coat onto the phosphors surface while P4 followed the same procedure with P3 except that a solution containing both TEOS and organic monomer were used in preparing coating materials. Among various coating methods examined in this study, uniform coating of phosphor could be achieved by using method P4, i.e., phosphor surface coating in a solution containing hydrophobic monomer and TEOS. Furthermore, $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ red phosphor coated with nanocomposite composed of PMMA matrix and silica nanoparticles exhibited enhanced PL intensity and long-term stability.

  • Spectroscopic properties of $Eu^{3+}$, $Sm^{3+}$, $Tb^{3+}$ ions in silicate glasses have been studied. The absorption and emission properties were investigated with the wavelength and rare-earth element concentration. The results showed that the emission spectrum of $Sm^{3+}$ was a transition from $^{5}D_{o}$ excited level to ^{7}F$ ground state and $Sm^{3+}$ was from $4F_{5/2}$ to $^{6}H$ and $Tb^{3+}$ was from $^{5}D_{4}$ to ^{7}F$ The emission intensity was linearly increased with rare-earth element concentrations up to 10wt%.
