The effect of Milliwrap and Uniwrap attached to the lid on the growth and acclimation of lily growing in vitro was investigated. Milliwrap treatment increased the plant height 1.6 and 1.2 times higher than control in 'Dame Blanche' and '94-36', respectively, plant height of 'Dame Blanche' was 6.1㎝ and '94-36' line was 13.4 ㎝. Two treatments slightly inhibited the fresh weight in 'Dame Blanche', whereas Milliwrap and Uniwrap enhenced the fresh weight more than 30% in '94-36'. Leaf width (1.0 ㎝) of Milliwrap treatment was most wide, which was 2.5 times higher than that of control. In the fresh weight of bulblets, the fresh weight per bulblet of treatment was higher than control in '94-36', but the number of bulblets per scale were few in the treatment to control. In the air composition of culture vessel, ethylene content (0.03 ppm) was low in the Milliwrap treatment compared with the control. CO₂ content of control was higher than treatments as 0.11% and it was about 3 times to air condition of out side. The acclimation ratio of Milliwrap treatment was higher as 85.1% and control was similar with Uniwrap treatment.
The evolution of incipient soot particles has been examined by high resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM) and elemental analyzer in ethylene-air inverse diffusion flames. Laser Induced Incandescence(LII) and laser scattering methods were introduced for examining the change of soot volume fraction and morphological properties in combustion generated soot qualitatively. Soot particles, collected by thermophoretic sampling were analyzed by using HRTEM to examine the nano structure of precursor particles. HRTEM micrographs apparently reveal a transformation of condensed phase of semitransparent tar-like material into precursor particles with relatively distinct boundary and crystalline which looks like regular layer structures. During this evolution histories C/H analysis was also performed to estimate the chemical evolution of precursor particles. The changes of C/H ratio of soot particles with respect to residence time can be divided into two parts: one is a very slowly increasing regime where tar-like materials are transformed into precursor particles (inception process) the other is an increasing region with constant rate where surface growth affects the increase of C/H ratio dominantly (surface growth region). These results provide a clear picture of a transition to mature soot from precursor materials.
The curing behavior, mechanical properties, hot-air aging resistance, abrasion properties, thermal properties, etc., of EVM/EPM/APP (ammonium polyphosphate)/DPER (dipentaerythritol)/EG (expandable graphite) and EVM/EPM/ATH (aluminium trihydroxide) flame retarding systems in ethylene vinyl acetate rubber (EVM) blends with EPM (ethylene propylene rubber) were sequentially examined. For both flame retarding systems, the torque values increased with the content of EPM rubber and with the vulcanization time. As the content of EPM rubber increased, the scorch time became shorter, whereas the optimum cure time followed an increasing trend. For the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flameretarding system, as the content of EPM rubber increased, the hardness did not change, whereas the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased. A hot-air aging resistance test at $150^{\circ}C$ showed that the heat resistance decreased with the EPM content regardless of the kinds and contents of flame retardants. As the EPM content increased, the abrasion rate became higher and the abrasion resistance of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding systems exceeded that of the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding counterparts. In comparison with the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding systems, the thermal stability of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding system showed an increasing tendency.

This study was carried to evaluate mechanical characteristics of Poly(ethylene terephthalate) fabrics (by Kawabata evaluation system(KES)) which was systematically treated with $O_2$ low temperature plasma and chitosan acetate solution. Furthermore, surface structure was investigated by SEM, AFM, air permeability and wettability. Tensile energy(WT), shear rigidity(G) and surface roughness(MIU) properties calculated by KES-FB have increased with increasing plasma treatment time, while bending rigidity(G) and energy of compression(WC) value were decreased compared with those of the untreated. SEM photographs showed the identification of chitosan coating but did not confirm the plasma etching structure. Air permeability was decreased according to plasma treatment time with increasing concentrations of chitosan. The water absorption rate made rapid progress by chitosan treatment.

This paper presents a numerical investigation of deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) induced by shock wave and flame interaction in ethylene-air mixtures. Also shows the change of DDT triggering time by wall cooling effect. A model is consisted of the compressible reactive Navier-Stokes equations. And the effect of viscosity, thermal conduction, molecular diffusion, chemical reaction and wall effect are included. Using this model, the generation of hot spot by repeated shock and flame interaction, occurrence of detonation, and wall cooling effect of detonation confining boundaries are studied.

A high-resolution numerical study is carried out to investigate the transient process of the combustion and the shock-train developments in an ethylene-fueled direct-connect dual-mode scramjet combustor. Following the fuel injection, air-throttling is applied at the expansion part of the combustor to provide mass addition to block the flow to subsonic speed. The ignition occurs several ms later when the fuel and air are mixed sufficiently. The pressure build up by the combustion leads to the shock train formation in the isolator section that advances to the exit of the intake nozzle. Then, the air-throttling is deactivated and the exhaust process begins and the situation before the air-throttling is restored. Present simulation shows the detailed processes in the dual-mode scramjet combustor for better understanding of the operation regimes and characteristics.
The rate of vulcanization of nonpolar ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer(EPDM)/carbon black compounds was investigated by using hot air and microwave as a heating source. The present study parameters such as heating source, sample thickness, and loading of an additive. The compound thickness was the main factor in the hot air vulcanization. It was due to the poor thermal conductivity of EPDM; that is, the thicker thickness, the lower vulcanization rate. For 100% vulcanization, the compound with 3 mm thickness required 7 min at $250^{\circ}C$ in the hot air system. However, the vulcanization of EPDM compounds by microwave system was not affected by the thickness while strongly dependent on the amount of a polar additive, carbon black. A compound with 80 phr of carbon black was perfectly vulcanized within 30 sec. These results suggest that the use of microwave as a heating source is an effective method for the vulcanization of compounds including a polar component.
This research is to investigate the reaction kinetics by air-lift bioreactor using calcium hydroxide, the neutralization agent and immobilization media, for removing ethylene glycol remained after chemical pretreatment. It was found that the optimum hydraulic retention time was obtained as 24.2hours at the optimum F/M ratio of 1.32kg-$TCOD_{Mn}$/day.kg-MLVSS, and then, infiuent $TCOD_{Mn}$ and MLVSS concentration were 3,290mg/l and 2,472mg/l, respectively. During the steady state, the kinetics constants such as maximum specific substrate removal rate, half saturation velocity coefficient, yield coefficient and endogenous respiration coefficient were estimated in the base of $TCOD_{Mn}$ as substrate concentration. And they were 1.47day$^{-1}$, 3.95mg/l, 0.391 and 0.092day$^{-1}$, respectively. And also, the oxgen use coefficients for cell synthesis, a', and energy of maintenance, b', were obtained as 0.4kg-O$_{2}$/kg-$TCOD_{Mn}$ and 0.056day$^{-1}$, at the steady state by the experimental result of oxygen uptake rate.

The charcoal is known to have gas adsorption capability and is used frequently to mitigate the unpleasant smells from food and clothing. It is also used to treat water to remove dissolved organic and inorganic substances. In this paper, we applied the several different kinds of charcoals to the papers in three different ways to investigate if charcoal application method affects its gas adsorption capability. Wet end addition, making multiply, and coating method were tested. Specific ethylene gas adsorption capabilities were measured. Experimental results shows that manufacturing conditions of the charcoal itself changed its gas adsorption properties. The boxes used for agricultural produces, and the packaging paper for flowers are to be well fitted application for the charcoal added paper. Mulch paper, which needs opacity and air permeability with proper strength properties, is another candidate for the application of charcoal added paper.
