It is fair to say that there are many ethical issues concerning the publication of medical papers. To define the best practice in the ethics of scientific publishing and a proper understanding of appropriate reporting in medical papers, this review should be useful for authors dealing with ethical issues which involve the protection of human and animal rights, the protection of confidentiality and informed consent, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, author and authorship, copy right transfer, duplicate publication, conflict of interest, and dealing with misconduct cases.

The purpose of this study is to develop a Science Ethicality Test (SET) to measure students' science ethics. To secure the validity and reliability of the SET, the authors have applied Rest's Four Components Model (FCM). To develop the SET, authors have conducted the following procedures: analysis of the Korean Youth Moral Test (Kim & Lee, 2012), alteration of the KYMT; and development of the SET. Rest's FCM is consisted of moral sensitivity, moral judgment, moral motivation, and moral character. The SET is consisted of ethical sensitivity, ethical judgment, ethical motivation, and ethical character with each factor having its own elements. To secure the validity and reliability of SET, authors requested a validity assessment from five experts (two evaluators are science education experts, two others are ethics education experts, and one evaluator is a scientist), and surveyed 599 elementary school students. As a result, SET proved high levels of validity and reliability.

Purpose: Nineteen articles were analyzed to gather opinions and nursing implications about NIPT recently launched. Methods: Nineteen articles were selected from EBSCO (eBook business collection), Google Scholar, and two Korean academic d-bases with key words 'prenatal screening testing', 'prenatal genetic diagnostic testing', NIPT or 'cell free DNA (cfDNA)'. Authors developed a framework for analyzing the 19 articles including opinions and suggestions for future implications. Results: Eleven articles written by the first author affiliated with medicine or genetics, viewed NIPT as promising because of safety, accuracy, early detectability and cost effectiveness. Articles written by journalists or authors affiliated with history and ethics were concerned with the possible risk of ELSI (ethical, legal, social issues), erratic interpretation of test results, and lack of genetic counseling service. Conclusion: With consideration of Korean clinical, and legal circumstances, not only pregnant women and families but also health professionals must prepare for clinical NIPT implications including updating prenatal genetic testing, counseling services, protecting ELSI and amulticultural team approach.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine trends in duplicate publication in Korean medical articles indexed in the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS). Methods: We searched the list of papers published in Korean medical journals by using OASIS. We randomly extracted 10% of total articles (n=1,162). We searched using OASIS by entering keywords from the title and names of the first and last authors of each indexed article. After the librarian selected the candidates of duplicate publication, three authors reviewed the full texts of the articles independently. When their opinions were not in agreement, reconciliation was made by discussion. The patterns of duplicate publication, such as copy, salami slicing (fragmentation), and aggregation (imalas), were also determined. Results: A total of 1162 articles were evaluated, 24 (2.1%) index articles of which were duplicate articles. Among 24 index articles, Two were triple publications and 22 were double publications. The patterns of duplication publication were as follows; (1) copy (n=8, 33.3%); (2) salami (9, 37.5%), (3) imalas (5, 20.8%) (4) others (2, 8.3%). Conclusion: Duplicate publications have appeared in Korean medical journals in a small proportion. Education on publication ethics and authors'ethical awareness is needed.
Purpose: This research article aim is to critically examine the ethical principles that govern research publication in social sciences and to identify and analyze the everyday ethical challenges social science researchers face during the publication process. Also, the research explores the factors contributing to ethical violations in social science research publication. Research design, data, and methodology: The present research has conducted comprehensive literature analysis and the authors of this research has figured out total 24 significant prior studies in the current literature dataset for the literature review and finding section. The procedure of data obtaining included the elimination process to screen dissertation papers, conference papers, and internet sources. Results: Previous The sociologies, given their emphasis on the human way of behaving and interactions, demand heightened ethical considerations due to the potential impact of research findings on individuals and society. Therefore, understanding and upholding ethical standards are essential for researchers at all career stages. Conclusions: In order to retain the integrity, legitimacy, and societal influence of research findings, ethical issues are crucial and the necessity for flexible and comprehensive ethical frameworks is highlighted by the rapid evolution of research methodology, digital platforms, and interdisciplinary collaborations, adding new dimensions of ethical complexity.
Purpose: The experience by a researcher highlighted steps is guided by a specific ethical codes of conduct. The purpose of the current study is to discuss the fabrication and falsification of data as the key ethical misconduct committed by many researchers focus on their causes and impact in the research field. Research design, data and methodology: To obtain suitable textual resource, the current study used content analysis to closely take a look at the fabrication and falsification based on prior research in the realm of publication ethics. As a result, the current authors could collect and understand adequate textual data from appropriate prior resources. Results: The Research misconduct is a common practice in different countries across the world. Based on the findings from this study, data fabrication or falsification have a grievous impact on all the stakeholders of a study. The unethical behavior affects the parties concerned both psychologically and financially. Conclusions: It is, therefore, recommended that researchers should be held accountable. This can be done through different means, including raising awareness of vulnerability to data fabrication and falsification. The government and research institute should also advocate for effective policies guiding research studies across the world.
This article explains the relationship between open-access publications and pseudo-journals, and explores their characteristics including predatory journals and journal hijackers. Pseudo-journals and pseudo-conferences cause the disruption of academic development by spreading low quality information as well as the violation of research ethics by abusing research funds. Finally, preventive measures are described from the perspective of journal authors/researchers, institutions/funding organizations, and journal editors.
The purpose of this study was to examine the professors, who teach the dental hygiene program in Korea, their Awareness on authors determined among research ethics. Three hundred and six full time professors and four hundred and eighty four part time professors in seventy eight universities all around Korea were surveyed. The following are the results that the collected data was carried out statistical analysis by using SPSS 12.0 program. The results was as followed. 1. The present study's author makers, 95 respondents (55.6%) experienced advising professor and 67 respondents (39.2%) experienced personally. 2. As recognition about range and order decision of the authors, they expressed the biggest recognition that person who did the interpretation of the results or gave important information doesn't always become the first author of the article($2.81{\pm}.485$). 3. Between general characteristics and authorship recognition level, they were statistically significantly different with number of articles published as the first author(p<0.05). 4. Regarding the correlation between students who helped with collection of data and references also have the right to be the author of the research article and Person who did the rough draft translation also has the right to be the co-author of the research article had a statistically significant correlation of .433 which was the highest correlation factor (p<0.01). Conclusions, rules and regulations on research ethic should be more publicized through educational institutions.
Purpose: Poor anonymity and confidential strategies by a researcher not only develop unprecedented and precedented harm to participants but also impacts the overall critical appraisal of the research outcomes. Therefore, understanding and applying anonymity and confidentiality in research is key for credible research. As such, this research expansively presents the importance of anonymity and confidentiality for research surveys through critical literature reviews of past works. Research design, data and methodology: This research has selected the literature content approach to obtain proper literature dataset which was proven by high degree of validity and reliability using only books and peer-reviewed research articles. The current authors have conducted screening procedure thoroughly to collect better fitted resources. Results: Research findings consistently mentioned the confidentiality and anonymity principles are preserved and implemented as a means of protecting the privacy of all individuals, establishing trust and rapport between researchers and study participants, as a way of critically upholding research ethical standards, and preserving the integrity of research processes. Conclusions: Confidentiality and anonymity are research ethical principles that help in providing informed consent to participants assuring subjects of the privacy of their personal data. As provided by research bodies and organizations, every research process has to incorporate the principles to meet credibility.
Investigators planning to use animals in their research and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members who review the research protocols must take personal responsibility for ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties, applying the Three Rs principles of Russell and Burch. The two Korean laws introduced in 2008 and 2009 regulating animal use for scientific purposes in line with the Three Rs principles have been revised a total of 11 times over the last 6 years. Both regulatory agencies, e.g., the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, provide regular training based on the legal requirements. Based on the amended Animal Welfare Act, the IACUC appointment framework has been upgraded: appointments are now for two-year terms and require a qualified training certificate issued by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency since 2012. The authors reviewed the current curricular programs and types of training conducted by the two governing agencies through Internet searches. Our Internet survey results suggest that: a) diversity should be provided in training curricula, based on the roles, backgrounds and needs of the individual trainees; b) proper and continued educational programs should be provided, based on trainees' experiences; and c) active encouragement by government authorities can improve the quality of training curricula.
