  • In this paper, the system for monitoring process of aluminum laser welding was developed using the light signal emitted from the plasma which comes from interaction between material and laser. Photodiode for monitoring system was selected based on the spectrum analysis of light from plasma and keyhole. Behavior of plasma and keyhole was analyzed through the sensor signals. Value of sensor signal represented the light intensity and fluctuation of signal indicated the stability of plasma and keyhole. For the relation between welding condition and sensor signals, the input power and weld geometry greatly effected on the average of each sensor signals. Using the feature values of signals, estimation model for tensile strength of weld was formulated with neural network algorithm. Performance of this model was verified through coefficient of determination and average error rate.

3D Vision-based Security Monitoring for Railroad Stations

  • Increasing demands on the safety of public train services have led to the development of various types of security monitoring systems. Most of the surveillance systems are focused on the estimation of crowd level in the platform, thereby yielding too many false alarms. In this paper, we present a novel security monitoring system to detect critically dangerous situations such as when a passenger falls from the station platform, or when a passenger walks on the rail tracks. The method is composed of two stages of detecting dangerous situations. Objects falling over to the dangerous zone are detected by motion tracking. 3D depth information retrieved by the stereo vision is used to confirm fallen events. Experimental results show that virtually no error of either false positive or false negative is found while providing highly reliable detection performance. Since stereo matching is performed on a local image only when potentially dangerous situations are found; real-time operation is feasible without using dedicated hardware.

  • This paper provides an integrated view on human and system interaction in advanced and automated systems, which adopting computerized multi-functional artifacts and complicated organizations, such as nuclear power plants, chemical plants, steel and semi-conduct manufacturing system. As current systems have advanced with various automated equipments but human operators from various organizations are involved in the systems, system safety still remains uncertain. Especially, a human operator plays an important role at the time of critical conditions that can lead to catastrophic accidents. The knowledge on human error helps a risk manager as well as a designer to create and control a more credible system. Several human error theories were reviewed and adopted for forming the integrated perspective: gulf of execution and evaluation; risk homeostasis; the ironies of automation; trust in automation; design affordance; distributed cognition; situation awareness; and plan delegation theory. The integrated perspective embraces human error theories within three levels of human-system interactions such as affordance level, psychological logic level and trust level. This paper argued that risk management process should dealt with human errors by providing (1) reasoning improvement; (2) support to situation awareness of operators; and (3) continuous monitoring on harmonization of human system interaction. This approach may help people to understand risk of human-system interaction failure characteristics and their countermeasures.

선로전환기 점검주기 최적화를 위한 모니터링시스템 설계 (The Design of Monitoring System to Optimize Points Inspection Intervals)

  • 선로전환기를 제어하는 제어모듈은 첨단화되었으나 타 도시철도 운영기관의 점검주기 및 점검방식을 그대로 도입, 계전연동장치를 사용하던 시기와 동일하게 적용하여 과잉정비 및 오정비로 인한 장애를 발생시켰다. 장애복구과정에서 인적오류는 열차의 탈선 등 중대사고로 이루어질 수 있어 선로전환기 모니터링시스템을 설치하고 실시간으로 선로전환기의 운영 상태를 자동으로 감시할 수 있도록 하였다. 고장유형별 치명도, 평균고장간격(MTBF), 평균복구간격(MTTR), 가용률을 산출한 결과와, 점검항목별 유지보수요원의 의견을 반영하여 점검주기를 변경하고 유지보수를 시행한 후에 작업이 간소화되었고 연평균 11건 발생하던 고장이 4년 연속 한건도 발생하지 않았다.

  • This paper relates to a technology for monitoring a liquefied gas storage tank in the special gas field where demand is increasing owing to the continuous growth of related fields such as the semiconductor, display, and ICT convergence electronics industries. We have proposed a system for real - time monitoring using wireless sensor network technology, and implemented a system consisting of a sensor unit, transmitter module, and receiver module to be attached to a liquefied gas storage tank. The system was applied to LCO2 tanks among various liquefied gas storage tanks to verify the feasibility. The storage tanks employed in the experiments has capacities of 16,179 l and was 1,920 mm in inner diameter. Furthermore, the density was 1.03 g/l. The measured data were compared with reference data on the remaining gas level versus the $CO_2$ height of the surface, expressed using a conventional water meter, provided by an existing storage tank supplier. The experimental results show that the data is similar to the standard data provided by the tank supplier, and has a high accuracy and reliability within an error range of 0.03%.

실시간 운전 특성 모니터링 시스템을 위한 차량 환경 개발 (Development of Vehicle Environment for Real-time Driving Behavior Monitoring System)

  • There has been recent interest in intelligent vehicle technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) or in-vehicle information systems (IVISs) that offer a significant enhancement of safety and convenience to drivers and passengers. However, unsuitable design of HMI (Human Machine Interface) must increase driver distraction and workload, which in turn increase the chance of traffic accidents. Distraction in particular often occurs under a heavy driving workload due to multitasking with various electronic devices like a cell phone or a navigation system while driving. According to the 2005 road traffic accidents in Korea report published by the ROad Traffic Authority (ROTA), more than 60% of the traffic accidents are related to driver error caused by distraction. This paper suggests the structure of vehicle environment for real-time driving behavior monitoring system while driving which is can be used the driver workload management systems (DWMS). On-road experiment results showed the feasibility of the suggested vehicle environment for driving behavior monitoring system.

임베디드 센서를 위한 시계열 예측 기반 실시간 오류 검출 기법 (Real-time Error Detection Based on Time Series Prediction for Embedded Sensors)

  • 임베디드 센서는 낮은 전력량과 신호의 세기로 장애물이나 거리와 같은 공간 환경에 많은 영향을 받으며, 이러한 원인들로 인해 임베디드 센서에서는 노이즈 데이터가 빈번히 발생한다. 임베디드 센서에서 획득하는 정보는 시계열 데이터로 존재하기 때문에 지속적으로 발생하는 시계열 정보에 대한 오류 검출을 실시간적으로 수행하기는 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 임베디드 장치의 물리적 특성을 고려하여 실시간적으로 발생하는 임베디드 센서의 오류 신호를 검출하는 시계열 예측 기반 오류 검출 기법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 시계열 예측 기반 오류 검출 기법은 안정 구간 함수를이용하여 현재 발생하는 임베디드장치 신호의 오류를 판단한다. 안정 구간 함수는 임베디드장치 신호를 관측하여 오류 검출을 수행할 때 최근의 신호들에 오류 가중화를 적용함으로써 효과적으로 오류 신호를 탐지할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 기법을 Intel Lab 신호를 이용하여 실험하였으며, 실험에서 본 논문에서 제안한 기법은 중심이동평균 기법에 비해 26.25%의 정확도 향상을 나타내었다.

해상 NB-IoT 서비스를 위한 ICS RF 중계기 (ICS RF Repeater for Marine NB-IoT Service)

  • 본 연구에서는 해양수산부가 2016년 실행 계획을 발표한 전자어구 실명제를 실현할 수 있는 어구 자동식별 모니터링 시스템에서 통신 거리를 늘릴 수 있는 해상 중계기 설계와 제작에 대해 보고한다. 해상 중계기는 중계기를 구성하는 서비스 안테나와 링크 안테나 사이의 되먹임 신호에 의한 발진을 제거할 수 있는 ICS (interference cancellation system) 방식의 RF 중계기로 설계 제작하였다. ICS RF 중계기 설계에 있어 링크 안테나와 서비스 안테나 간 이격을 30 dB 확보하였다. 시험을 통한 검증 결과 ICS RF 중계기의 출력 신호 일부가 입력으로 되먹임되는 신호 레벨이 중계기 이득보다 15 dB 이상 낮을 때 발진에 의해 발생하는 EVM(error vector magnitude)이 성능 기준인 6%보다 낮게 얻어지는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 개발된 ICS RF 중계기를 어구 자동식별 모니터링 시스템 등의 해상 IoT 네트워크에 적용하면 서비스 영역이 늘어날 것으로 기대된다.

High-temperature ultrasonic thickness monitoring for pipe thinning in a flow-accelerated corrosion proof test facility

  • In order to monitor the pipe thinning caused by flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) that occurs in coolant piping systems, a shear horizontal ultrasonic pitch-catch waveguide technique was developed for accurate pipe wall thickness monitoring. A clamping device for dry coupling contact between the end of the waveguide and pipe surface was designed and fabricated. A computer program for multi-channel on-line monitoring of the pipe thickness at high temperature was also developed. Both a four-channel buffer rod pulse-echo type and a shear horizontal ultrasonic waveguide type for high-temperature thickness monitoring system were successfully installed to the test section of the FAC proof test facility. The overall measurement error can be estimated as ${\pm}10{\mu}m$ during a cycle from room temperature to $200^{\circ}C$.

인적 요인을 중심으로 한 해양사고 분석 및 예방 연구 (예부선 사고사례를 중심으로) (A Study on the Analysis and Prevention of the Human-related Marine Accidents)

  • Despite the development of the various navigational equipment, such as GPS, ARPA, ECDIS, AIS, VDR, and hull monitoring system, marine accidents are still a leading concern in shipping industry. For all accidents over the reporting period, approximately 60 to 80% of the accidents was involved in human error. It means that in each case, some events which were associated with human error initiated an accident, and those failures of human performance led to the failure to avoid an accident or mitigate it's consequences. However, the improvement and the effort on the maritime human error are still limited in an elementary step. The objective of this paper is to propose a modified Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) model in order to analyse the collision accidents of tug-barge ship.
