Modification of the Sloan치s Substepping Scheme for the Numerical Stress Integration of Elasto-plastic Constitutive Models (탄소성 구성 모델의 수치 응력 적분을 위한 단계분할 절차에 관한 연구)

  • Elasto-plastic finite element analysis of geotechnical boundary value problems necessitate the stress integration for the known strain increments. For the elasto-plastic constitutive model, the stress integration is generally achieved by numerical schemes, because analytical integration is impossible for general strain path. In this case, the accuracy of numerical stress integration has an important role on the overall accuracy of nonlinear finite element solution. In this study, the Sloan's substepping method which is one of explicit integration methods has been adopted and iris applicability has been checked. The unstability and inaccuracy of ifs results initiated from initial stress level were revealed. So. a new modified numerical integration method which employs the basic concept of modified Euler scheme for error control is proposed and accuracy and stability of the solutions are confirmed by triaxial test simulation.

  • It has been recognized unsaturated soil behaviour playing an important role in geomechanics. Up to now, only a few experimental data are available for the technical difficulties related to both volume changes and suction measurements. In this study, the volume changes of unsaturated compacted silty soil were monitored with proximeter (i.e. non-contactable transducer) during various triaxial compression tests, which gave a realistic estimation in the volume changes of unsaturated soil sample. The measurement of volume changes were performed with 0.5% of the maximum error under the axial strain ratio of less than 10%. The experimental results have revealed that the mechanical behaviour of unsaturated soil can be significantly affected by the matric suction. During the shearing processes, the level of maximum deviator stress under the initial suction pressure of 50kPa was higher than that under the initial suction pressure of 10kPa. On the other hand, the volume changes became smaller under the increase in the initial suction pressure.

  • In this research, We connect the terrestrial magnetism sensor of the Philips to a bluetooth communication system and measured 360 degree of the azimuth change the angle with an incline of 5 degrees to an order direction. The value of the azimuth to be measured sent to the Bluetooth communication system and analyzed the measuring value in the 100m as moved. Using the bluetooth, we could send the measuring value of the azimuth without the bearing error in the plain without an electric wave obstacle within a distance in straight line 100M. We got the value of the azimuth have 98% reliability to maintain at a level with the terrestrial magnetism sensor. Based on this research. We send the measuring value of the azimuth which the accuracy is improved to a mobile intelligent robot moving a land inclined equipped with this system and can track the azimuth of it.

  • We propose a weighted time-reversal prefilter for indoor wireless communication systems. In the indoor wireless communication environments, the bit error rate (BER) performance is significantly degraded by the delay spread. The conventional schemes have complex receivers to recover deterioration of the BER. The proposed time-reversal prefilter simplifies the structure of receivers, minimizes the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and maintains the peak power level of the received signal. The simulation results show that the weighted time-reversal prefilter improves the BER performance in comparison with the conventional time-reversal prefilter.

  • The high efficiency power management IC(PMIC) for Moblie application is proposed in this paper. PMIC is controlled with PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. The saw-tooth generator is made to have 1.2 MHz oscillation frequency and full range of output swing from ground to supply voltage(VDD:3.3V). The comparator is designed with two stage OP amplifier. And the error amplifier has 70dB DC gain and $64^{\circ}$ phase margin. DC-DC converter, based on Voltage-mode PWM control circuits, achieved the high efficiency near 95% at 100mA output current. DC-DC converter is designed with LDO in stand-by mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency.

  • In this paper we analyzed, using Markov modeling, the performance of CSMA/CD over the wireless channel which is characterized by near-far effect, shadowing and Rayleigh fading. The analysis shows that throughput of CSMA/CD is degraded by channel error. However, if capture effect which arises from the randomness of power level of received signal due to the fading phenomena of electromagnetic waves is taken into consideration, the system performance is much improved and the system stability is also made better.

  • The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump (for seawater lifting) by inverse design method and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3$/h. Finite volume method with structured mesh and realized k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head, brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the design data. The simulated results are good agreement with the design data less 3% error.

Performance Analysis of Pulse Positioning Using Adaptive Threshold Detector (ATD)

  • This paper describes the measurement of pulse positioning (input time) to calculate a time of arrival (TOA) that takes from transmitting a signal from the target of multilateration (MLAT) system to receiving the signal at the receiver. In this regard, this paper analyzes performances of simple threshold method and level adjust system (LAS) method, which is one of the adaptive threshold detector (ATD) methods, among many methods to calculate pulse positioning of signal received at the receiver. To this end, Cramer-rao lower bound (CRLB) with regard to pulse positioning, which was measured when signals transmitted from a transponder mounted at the target were received at the receiver, was induced and then deviation sizes with regard to pulse positioning, which was measured with simple threshold and LAS methods through MATLAB simulations, were compared. Next, problems occurring according to a difference in amplitude of signals inputted to each receiver are described when pulse positioning is measured at multiple receivers located at a different distance from the target as is the case in the MLAT system. Furthermore, LAS method to resolve the problems is explained. Lastly, this study analyzes whether a pulse positioning error occurring due to the signal noise satisfies the requirement (6 nsec. or lower) recommended for the MLAT system when using these two methods.

  • Uranium radionuclides are electrodeposited on inexpensive stainless steel cathode from a mixed oxalate-chloride electrolyte. The factors affecting the optimum condition for the deposition are determined by studying the effects of deposition time, initial current, electrode spacing, pH of electrolyte and uranium concentration in the electrolyte at fixed cathode area. The experiment which was repeated 3 times at each uranium concentration with 60 minutes of deposition time, gave an error of less than 4% standard deviation at the 90% confidence level with average yield greater than 99%.

  • Place recognition for LBS (Location Based Service) has been one of the important techniques for user-oriented service. FLANN (Fast Library for performing Approximate Nearest Neighbor) of place recognition with image features is fast, but it is affected much by environmental condition such as occlusions. This paper presents a place recognition method using quad vocabulary tree with SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features). In learning stage, an image is represented with spatial pyramid of three levels and vocabulary trees of their sub-regions are constructed. Query image is matched with the learned vocabulary trees in each level. The proposed method measures homography error of the matched features. By considering the number of inliers in sub-region, we can improve place recognition performance.
