  • For performance prediction and diagnostics of gas turbine engines, linear and non-linear gas path analysis are applied. In order to find optimal instrument parameters to detect the physical faults such as (outing, erosion and corrosion, non-linear gas path analysis is used. A typical industrial gas turbine engine, TB5000, is used to study the effect of physical faults on engine performance. Through comparison of RMS error between linear and non-linear gas path analysis, the optimal instrument parameters can be defined. As a result, it is found that the linear GPA has the level of error introduced by the assumption of the linear mode: can be of the same order of magnitude as the fault being soughtwhile the non-linear GPA can be solved the non-linear relationships between dependent and independent parameters using an iterative method such as the Newton-Raphson method with sufficient accuracy.

  • An iterative scheme for computing the three-dimensional position and the surface orientation of an opaque object from a singel shaded image is proposed. This method demonstrates that calculating the depth(distance) between the camera and the object from one shaded video image is possible. Most previous research works on $'Shape from Shading$' problem, even in the $'Photometric Stereo Method$', invoved the determination of surface orientation only. To measure the depth of an object, depth of the object, and the reflectance properties of the surface. Assuming that the object surface is uniform Lambertian the measured intensity level at a given image pixel*x,y0becomes a function of surface orientation and depth component of the object. Derived Image Irradiance Equation can`t be solved without further informations since three unknown variables(p,q and D) are in one nonlinear equation. As an additional constraints we assume that surface satisfy smoothness conditions. Then equation can be solved relaxatively using standard methods of TEX>$'Calculus of VariationTEX>$'. After checking the sensitivity of the algorithm to the errors ininput parameters, the theoretical results is tested by experiments. Three objects (plane, cylinder, and sphere)are used. Thees initial results are very encouraging since they match the theoretical calculations within 20$\%$ error in simple experiments.> error in simple experiments.

  • In this study, the effect of formaldehyde to phenol (F/P) molar ratios, catalyst wt%, and reaction temperature on the chemical structure was studied utilizing a two-level full factorial experimental design. The effect of three variables on the chemical structure was analyzed by using three-way ANOVA of SPSS. Concentration of methyrol-substituted phenols after 300 min addition reaction increased with higher the F/P mole ratio, lower the reaction temperature and lower the catalyst wt%. Resol catalysed by barium hydroxide showed higher addition of formaldehyde onto ortho positions of phenolic rings. A simplified elementary reaction model for resole type phenolic resin formation which do not consider the dissociation of phenolic compounds and the fraction of formaldehyde in the form of methylene glycol was proposed and compared with Zavitsas' type models. Elementary reaction model showed error of 2.79% compared to the error of 3.27% in Zavitsas' type models. It was thought that the elementary reaction model could be used to predict the behavior of addition reaction in resol formation.

  • This paper compares the equalization algorithm of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and FC-MMA (Fast Convergence-Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of channel's distortion in transmitting the 2 dimensional 16-QAM signals. The CR-MMA adaptive equalizer use the error signal by reduce the nonconstant modulus signal to constant modulus signal in order to updates the tap coefficient, and the FC-MMA adptive equalizer use the error signal applying the modified dispersion constant considering the number of symbol level instead of signal point reduction. These two algorithm are known to its superior to the convergence characteristic among the MMA series equalizer. In this paper, the other equalization performance including the convergence characteristic was compared by computer simulation. As a result of computer simulation, FC-MMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion and SER performance than CR-MMA, but not in convergence speed.

  • The purpose of this study is to forecast the seaborne trade volume during January 1994 to December 2014 using the multiplicative seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) along with intervention factors and an artificial neural network (ANN) model. Diagnostic checks of the ARIMA model were conducted using the Ljung-Box Q and Jarque-Bera statistics. All types of ARIMA process satisfied the basic assumption of residuals. The ARIMA(2,1,0) $(1,0,1)_{12}$ model showed the lowest forecast error. In addition, the prediction error of the artificial neural network indicated a level of 5.9% on hidden layer 5, which suggests a relatively accurate forecasts. Furthermore, the ex-ante predicted values based on the ARIMA model and ANN model are presented. The result shows that the seaborne trade volume increases very slowly.

  • In this paper, on-chp atomatic tuning circuit, using proposed integration level approximation technique, is designed to tuning of the variation of RC time-constant due to aging or temperature variation, etc. This circuit reduces the error, the difference between code values and real outputs of integrator, which is drawback of presented dual-slope tuning circuit and eliminates modulations of processing signals in integrated circuit due to fixed tuning codes during ordinary operation. This system is made up of simple integrator, A/D converter and digital control circuit and all capacitors are replaced by programed capacitor arrays in this system. This tuning circuit with 4 bit resolution achieves $-9.74{\sim}+9.68%$ of RC time constant error for 50% resistance variation.

  • In order to manage energy efficiency by analyzing the amount of energy, it would determine the nature of the factors involved in the energy utilization. Therefore, accurate measurement of the energy consumption data is an important factor in the energy management. In this study, we are aware of the importance of the data measurement, and proposes the accuracy assessment of electric energy monitoring system. According to conventional statistical methods it is proceeded as follows; i)the measurement error value would be determined by a random variable, ii) setting the confidence interval to consider the distribution of the statistic and determines the confidence level of the measurement accuracy. And using the t-distribution CDF is used to facilitate even small sample data.

  • In this paper, high efficiency power management IC(PMIC) with DT-CMOS(Dynamic threshold voltage Complementary MOSFET) switching device is presented. PMIC is controlled PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. The DT-CMOS switch with low on-resistance is designed to decrease conduction loss. The control parts in Buck converter, that is, PWM control circuit consist of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference(BGR) circuit, an error amplifier, comparator circuit, compensation circuit, and control block. The saw-tooth generator is made to have 1.2MHz oscillation frequency and full range of output swing from supply voltage(3.3V) to ground. The comparator is designed with two stage OP amplifier. And the error amplifier has 70dB DC gain and $64^{\circ}$ phase margin. DC-DC converter, based on current mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency nearly 96% at 100mA output current. And Buck converter is designed along LDO in standby mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency. Also, this paper proposes two protection circuit in order to ensure the reliability.

  • The proper position of a multi-leaf collimator (MLC) is essential for the quality of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) dose delivery. Task Group (TG) 142 provides a quality assurance (QA) procedure for MLC position. Our study investigated the QA validation of the mechanical leaf gap measurement and the maintenance procedure. Two $VitalBeam^{TM}$ systems were evaluated to validate the acceptance of an MLC position. The dosimetric leaf gaps (DLGs) were measured for 6 MV, 6 MVFFF, 10 MV, and 15 MV photon beams. A solid water phantom was irradiated using $10{\times}10cm^2$ field size at source-to-surface distance (SSD) of 90 cm and depth of 10 cm. The portal dose image prediction (PDIP) calculation was implemented on a treatment planning system (TPS) called $Eclipse^{TM}$. A total of 20 VMAT plans were used to confirm the accuracy of dose distribution measured by an electronic portal imaging device (EPID) and those predicted by VMAT plans. The measured leaf gaps were 0.30 mm and 0.35 mm for VitalBeam 1 and 2, respectively. The DLG values decreased by an average of 6.9% and 5.9% after mechanical MLC adjustment. Although the passing rates increased slightly, by 1.5% (relative) and 1.2% (absolute) in arc 1, the average passing rates were still within the good dose delivery level (>95%). Our study shows the existence of a mechanical leaf gap error caused by a degenerated MLC motor. This can be recovered by reinitialization of MLC position on the machine control panel. Consequently, the QA procedure should be performed regularly to protect the MLC system.

  • Underwater acoustic communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of underwater channel causes signal distortion and error floor. In order to improve the performance, it is necessary to employ an iterative coding scheme. Among the iterative coding scheme, turbo codes, LDPC codes and convolutional code based on BCJR algorithm are dominant channel coding schemes in recent. Therefore this paper analyzed the performance of iterative codes based on turbo equalizer with the same coding rate and similar codeword length. The performances of three kinds of iterative codes were evaluated in the environment of underwater acoustic communication channel that are real data collected in Korean east sea. The distance of transmitter and receiver was 5Km and data rate was 1Kbps. As a result, convolutional code based on BCJR algorithm has better performance in underwater channel than turbo codes and LDPC codes.
