Face Recognition Using a Neuro-Fuzzy Algorithm (뉴로-퍼지 알고리듬을 이용한 얼굴인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a face recognition method using a neuro-fuzzy algorithm. In the preprocessing step, we extract the face part from the background image by tracking face boundaries. Then based on the a priori knowledge of human faces we extract the features such as widths of eyes and mouth, and distances from eye to nose and nose to mouth. In the recognition step. We use a neuro-fuzzy algorithm that employs a fuzzy membership function and modified error backpropagation algorithm. The former absorbs the variation of feature values and the latter shows good learning efficiency. Computer simulation results with 20 persons show that the proposed method gives higher recognition rate than the conventional ones.

  • Advances in sensors, actuators, and computers and developments In information systems offer unprecedented opportunities to implement highly ambitious automation, control and decision strategies. There are also new challenges and demands for control and automation in modern industrial practices. There is a growing need for an active participation from the information systems in industrial, manufacturing and process industry environments because currently there are many control problems. This paper provides pattern recognition to the monitoring system for solvent manufacturing process and shows performance in real-time response with multiple input signals. Data is teamed by a multilayer feedforward network trained by error-backpropagation. The two kinds of test results show that the trained network has the ability to show the current system status with different input data sets.

Nonlinear Compensation Using Artificial Neural Network in Radio-over-Fiber System

  • In radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems, nonlinear compensation is very important to meet the error vector magnitude (EVM) requirement of the mobile network standards. In this study, a nonlinear compensation technique based on an artificial neural network (ANN) is proposed for RoF systems. This technique is based on a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) with one hidden layer and three neuron units in this study. The BPNN obtains the inverse response of the system to compensate for nonlinearities. The EVM of the signal is measured by changing the number of neurons and the hidden layers in a RoF system modeled by a measured data. Based on our simulation results, it is concluded that one hidden layer and three neuron units are adequate for the RoF system. Our results showed that the EVMs were improved from 4.027% to 2.605% by using the proposed ANN compensator.

  • Evolutionary programming is mainly characterized by two factors; one is the selection strategy and the other the mutation rule. In this paper, a new mutation rule that is the same form of well-known backpropagation learning rule of neural networks has been presented. The proposed mutation rule adapts the best individual's value as the target value at the generation. The temporal error improves the exploration through guiding the direction of evolution and the momentum speeds up convergence. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed algorithm have been verified through benchmark test functions.

  • To estimate crack growth rate and cycle ratio uniquely, many investigators have developed various kinds of mechanical parameters and theories. But, thes have produced local solution space through single parameter. Neural Networks can perform patten classification using several input and output parameters. Fatigue damage model by neural networks was used to recognize the relation between da/dN/N/N(sub)f, and half-value breadth ratio B/Bo, fractal dimension D(sub)f, and fracture mechanical parameters in 2024-T3 aluminium alloy. Learned neural networks has ability to predict both crack growth rate da/dN and cycly ratio /N/N(sub)f within engineering estimated mean error(5%).

  • In this paper, a hybrid neural network is proposed to improve the learning ability of a neural network. The union of the characteristics of a Self-Organizing Neural Network model and of multi-layer perceptron model using the backpropagation learning method gives us the advantage of reduction of the learning error and the learning time. In learning process, the proposed hybrid neural network reduces the number of nodes in hidden layers to reduce the calculation time. And this proposed neural network uses the fuzzy feedback values, when it updates the responding region of each node in the hidden layer. To show the effectiveness of this proposed hybrid neural network, the boolean function(XOR, 3Bit Parity) and the solution of inverse kinematics are used. Finally, this proposed hybrid neural network is applied to the visual tracking control of a PUMA560 robot, and the result data is presented.

  • This paper proposes a method to apply the Backpropagation(BP) algorithm of MVL(Multi-Valued Logic) Neural Network to pattern recognition. It extracts the property of an object density about an original pattern necessary for pattern processing and makes the property of the object density mapped to MVL. In addition, because it team the pattern by using multiple valued logic, it can reduce time f3r pattern and space fer memory to a minimum. There is, however, a demerit that existed MVL cannot adapt the change of circumstance. Through changing input into MVL function, not direct input of an existed Multiple pattern, and making it each variable loam by neural network after calculating each variable into liter function. Error has been reduced and convergence speed has become fast.

Acoustic Impulse Method with Neural Network for Detection of Cracks in Eggshell (음향충격법과 인공신경망에 의한 파란 검출)

  • In order to develop an inspection algorithm for an automatic eggshell inspection system, acoustic impulse response with neural network method was studied. An improved error backpropagation algorithm was selected as a loaming rule of neural network, and three layer network was chosen for the neural network architecture. Acoustic signals in time domain and theirs power spectrum were studied as the input to the neural network. The classification feasibility and success rate were investigated in terms of statistical analysis and neural network approach. As a result, the success rate was 95% with the statistical model having five independent variables. Among the neural network models studied, the power spectrum of acoustic signal as the input with 64 input neurons and the two impact data showed the success rate of 95.5% which was slightly higher than of statistical analysis.

  • Error-backpropagation has been used in the bulk of Practical applications for neural networks. While an emulator, a multilayered neural network, learns to identify the system's dynamic characteristics. There is, however, no concrete theoretical results about the structure of a plant and the structure of a multilayered neural network and the learning rate. The paper investigates the relation between structure of a plant and a multilayered network and learning rate. Simulation study shows that the plant signal with a short period and a fast sam time is preferable for learning of the network emulator.

Airline In-flight Meal Demand Forecasting with Neural Networks and Time Series Models

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce a more efficient forecasting technique, which could help result the reduction of cost in removing the waste of airline in-flight meals. We will use a neural network approach known to many researchers as the “Outstanding Forecasting Technique”. We employed a multi-layer perceptron neural network using a backpropagation algorithm. We also suggested using other related information to improve the forecasting performances of neural networks. We divided the data into three sets, which are training data set, cross validation data set, and test data set. Time lag variables are still employed in our model according to the general view of time series forecasting. We measured the accuracy of our model by “Mean Square Error”(MSE). The suggested model proved most excellent in serving economy class in-flight meals. Forecasting the exact amount of meals needed for each airline could reduce the waste of meals and therefore, lead to the reduction of cost. Better yet, it could enhance the cost competition of each airline, keep the schedules on time, and lead to better service.
