Effect of N Application Rate on Fixation and Transfer from Vetch to Barley in Mixed Stands. (질소시용수준이 베치-보리 혼파 사초의 질소고정 및 베치에서 보리로 질소이동에 미치는 영향)

  • With recent interest organic farming the use of legumes including vetch and clover to provide N to adjacent crops is increasing in Korea. In the present studies, we conducted a trial to investigate the effects of the application of N rate on nitrogen fixation and transfer from vetch to barley in mixed stands. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Four different N rates(0, 75, 113 and 150/ha) was used and vetch+barley was broadcasted manually on 1.5 $\times$2 m plot in Oct. 2001. Half of urea and K$_{2}O, 200 Phosphate and 75 kg potash per ha were applied as basal dressing md half of N md 75 potash were used for topdressing to soil surface on MarctL 2002. The equivalent of 1kg ha$^{-1}$ at($^{15}$NH$_{4}$)$_{2}$SO$_{4}$ solution at 99.8 atom $\%$$^{15}$N excess was applied to the microplot in mid April. Forage was harvested from each plot at ground level and separated into barley and vetch. Total N content and It values of samples were determined using a continuous flow stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry(IsoPrime-EA. Micromass, UK.). The percentage of legume H fixed from atmospheric N2 were 95.0, 93.8, 94.4 and $84.8\%$ with increment of N levels. The percentage of N transfer from vetch to barley by N-difference method with increment of N fertilizer were from 58 to$49\%$ while 39 to $23\%$ in $^{15}$N-dilution method. The amount of transfer from vetch to barley were 87 to 68 kg/ ha with N level by N-difference moth여 and 58 to -56/ha with N application levels by $^{15}$N dilution method. The amount of nitrogen fixation per ha were from 150 kg / ha to 219 kg / ha by different method, but on the other side 49 to 105kg/ha by N$^{15}$-dilution.

Trypsin Activity in the Digestive Organs and Gastric Evacuation Rate of Litopenaeus vannamei at the Different Rearing Water Temperatures (사육수온에 따른 흰다리새우 Litopenaeus vannamei 소화기관의 trypsin 활성과 배설률)

  • Tryptic enzyme activities in the digestive glands (hepatopancreas) and digestive tracts of Pacific white shrimps Litopenaeus vannamei were assayed at three water temperature regimes. At $26^{\circ}C$, trypsin activity in the hepatopancreas was 200% higher than at $23^{\circ}C$ and 300% higher than at $20^{\circ}C$. The highest foregut trypsin activity levels showed no significant difference in the temperature regimes, but the time between peaks in foreguts and midguts shortened at higher temperature. In the midgut, the level of enzyme activity was highest at $26^{\circ}C$ regardless of the amount of ingested feed. The ratio of foregut and/or midgut dry weight to the body wet weight indicated feed movement through the digestive track directly and gave accurate account about the feeding mechanism. Maximum feed ingestion in the foregut was equivalent to 0.6% of the body weight (wet weight) at $23^{\circ}C$, 0.4% of the body weight at $20^{\circ}C$, and 0.5% of the body weight at $26^{\circ}C$. In view of the temperatures chosen for this study, although maximum ingestion was observed at $23^{\circ}C$, the shrimps showed highest enzyme activity, but lowest feed retention time at $26^{\circ}C$ and lowest enzyme activity, but highest retention time at $20^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Heat Treatment Conditions of FeC2O4·2H2O on the Formation of Fe3O4-δ (FeC2O4·2H2O의 열처리 조건이 Fe3O4-δ 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • A general synthetic method to make $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ (activated magnetite) is the reduction of $Fe_3O_4$ by $H_2$ atmosphere. However, this process has an explosion risk. Therefore, we studied the process of synthesis of $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ depending on heat-treatment conditions using $FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ in Ar atmosphere. The thermal decomposition characteristics of $FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ and the ${\delta}$-value of $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ were analyzed with TG/DTA in Ar atmosphere. ${\beta}-FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ was synthesized by precipitation method using $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ and $(NH_4)_2C_2O_4{\cdot}H_2O$. The concentration of the solution was 0.1 M and the equivalent ratio was 1.0. ${\beta}-FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ was decomposed to $H_2O$ and $FeC_2O$4 from $150^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. $FeC_2O4$ was decomposed to CO, $CO_2$, and $Fe_3O_4$ from $200^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$. Single phase $Fe_3O_4$ was formed by the decomposition of ${\beta}-FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ in Ar atmosphere. However, $Fe_3C$, Fe and $Fe_4N$ were formed as minor phases when ${\beta}-FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ was decomposed in $N_2$ atmosphere. Then, $Fe_3O_4$ was reduced to $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ by decomposion of CO. The reduction of $Fe_3O_4$ to $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ progressed from $320^{\circ}C$ to $400^{\circ}C$; the reaction was exothermic. The degree of exothermal reaction was varied with heat treatment temperature, heating rate, Ar flow rate, and holding time. The ${\delta}$-value of $Fe_3O_{4-{\delta}}$ was greatly influenced by the heat treatment temperature and the heating rate. However, Ar flow rate and holding time had a minor effect on ${\delta}$-value.

Effect of Mahuang on Heart Rate Variability in Adults : a Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Randomized Trial (마황 복용이 정산인의 심박변이도에 미치는 영향에 대한 무작위배정 이중맹검 임상연구)

  • Objectives : Mahuang (Ephedra sinica), well known as an herbal medicine in the East and West, contains a relatively high percentage of ephedrine known as sympathomimetic alkaloid. We investigated the effects of Mahuang on sympathetic nervous system with heart rate variety (HRV). Time and frequency domain analysis of HRV is a noninvasive technique capable of providing information on autonomic modulation of the sinus node. Methods : We investigated 57 healthy volunteers consisting of 37 subjects in the Mahuang group and 20 subjects in the placebo group. Study form was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial. The 37 subjects in the Mahuang group took 3 Mahuang capsules (1 capsule equivalent to 2g herb Mahuang) twice a day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.,., while the 20 subjects in the placebo group took 3 placebo-capsules filled with glutinous rice powder at the same times. Mahuang medicine and placebo medicine were made into opaque capsules. We measured HRV at 3 p.m. 1 or 2 days before medication and at 3 p.m. after medication. Results : Mean-RR and SDNN of the Mahuang group significantly decreased compared with that of the placebo group, but the heart rate of the Mahuang group significantly increased compared with the placebo. HRV-Index, RMSSD and SDSD of the Mahuang group significantly decreased compared with that of the placebo group, but PNN50 of the Mahuang group significantly increased compared with placebo. Ln(TP), Ln(VLF), Ln(LF) and Ln(HF) of the Mahuang group significantly decreased compared with those of the placebo group. There were no significant differences in normalized LF, normalized HF and LF/HF ratio between the Mahuang and placebo groups. Conclusion : The results suggest that Mahuang in healthy adults tends to reduce the autonomic nervous system within the normal range.

Studies on the Taste Sensitivity and Eating Habits of Koreans (한국인(韓國人)의 맛에 대한 감도(感度)와 식습관(食習慣)에 대한 연구(硏究))

  • In order to provide basic data for food processors and to improve eating habits and healthy diets, four primary tastes and hot taste threshold of Koreans, physio-chemical properties of foods and food preference were investigated. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The recognition threshold concentration of four primary tastes was 0.016 % of salt, 0.245${\sim}$0.249 % of sweet, 0.004${\sim}$0.008 % of sour and 0.008${\sim}$0.012 % of bitter. Threshold concentration of hot taste was 170,000${\sim}$600,000 Scoville Heat Unit(S.H.U.) 2. The most acceptable tastes were 0.3 % saltiness in 0.375 % broth(at $60^{\circ}C$), 6 % sweetness in 2 % instant coffee(at $60^{\circ}C$) and 19.3 sugar-acid ratio(16.8 brix/0.8736 % citric acid) in 100 % valencia orange juice(at $20^{\circ}C$). 3. The salt concentrations of soup were 1.127 % in average. S. H. U. (scale of hot taste) of soybean sprout soup and spinach bean paste soup ranged between 12,500 and 47,500 equivalent to oleoresin capsicum content of 1.990${\sim}$5.911 (mg %). 4. 'Jigae' (Korean style stew) was the most favorable food and it was revealed that the father influences the formation of his children's eating habits.

  • Simulated acid rain (pH 4.0, pH 2.0) containing sulfuric and nitric acid in the ratio of 60:40 (chemical equivalent basis) diluted with underground water, and underground water (pH 6.5) as control were treated on potted Pines koraiensis seeds during the growing season (May 1 to August 31) in 1985. The regime of artificial acid rain, in terms of spray frequency and amount per plot, was simulated on the basis of climatological data averaged for 30 years of records. The seedling growth, contents of chemical substances in needles and chemical properties of the tested soil were compared among the various pH levels of acid rain on October 31, 1985. Following results were obtained. 1. With decreasing pH levels of acid rain, S and $K_2O$ contents in leaf tissue were increased, but MgO and $P_2O_5$ contents were decreased. 2. Soil pH was dropped, and exchangeable aluminum content in the tested soil was dramatically increased as the pH levels of acid rain decreased. 3. Exchangeable calcium, magnesium, potassium contents, and base saturation degree of the soil were significantly decreased with decreasing pH levels of acid rain. 4. Sulfate concentrations in the soil were significantly increased as rain pH decreased, but total nitrogen and available phosphate contents were not influenced by acid rain.

Reliability of Nonlinear Direct Spectrum Method with Mixed Building Structures (복합구조물에 대한 비선형 직접스펙트럼법의 신뢰성)

  • Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. Seismic evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. The nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) among various nonlinear analysis methods is the most accurate to compute seismic performance of structures, but it is time-consuming and necessitate more efforts. The nonlinear approximate methods, which is more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures, are extensively studied. Among them, the capacity spectrum method(CSM) is conceptually simple, but the iterative procedure is time-consuming and may sometimes lead to no solution or multiple solutions. This paper considers a nonlinear direct spectrum method(NDSM) to evaluate seismic performance of mixed building structures without iterative computations, given dynamic property T from stiffness skeleton curve and nonlinear pseudo acceleration $A_{y}$/g and/or ductility ratio $\mu$ from response spectrum. The nonlinear response history analysis has been performed and analyzed with various earthquakes for estimation of reliability and practicality of NDSM with mixed building structures.

Miniaturization and Transmission Efficiency Improvement of Resonant Aperture Structure (공진 개구 구조의 소형화 및 투과 효율 개선)

  • As a method of the transmission efficiency improvement of an aperture smaller than the wavelength, we modified the conventional H-shaped resonant aperture to lower the resonance frequency of resonant aperture, and the transmission efficiency of resonant aperture was improved more than the conventional aperture. The maximum transmission cross section(TCS) calculated using the equivalent circuit tends to be almost equal to the maximum TCS from the small resonant aperture modified to improve the transmission efficiency. The transmission characteristics of resonant apertures can be quantified as the TCS, and the transmission efficiency of that can be compared. The modified resonant aperture has a maximum TCS increased by about 2.87 times from $846mm^2$ to $2,431mm^2$ compared to the H-shaped aperture, and the resonant frequency decreased from 5.06 GHz to 2.92 GHz, and the length-to-wavelength ratio of the aperture was reduced from 0.178 to 0.103.

Bending behavior of shape memory alloy bar and its application of seismic restrainers for bridges (형상기억합금의 휨거동 및 교량변위제어장치적용 연구)

  • The goal of this study is to perform several bending tests on a shape memory alloy bar and to analyze the characteristics of the bending behavior. The other goal is to verify the seismic performance of an SMA bar bending application. Single and double bending tests were conducted with varying loading speeds and maximum displacement. The loading and the unloading stiffness were estimated from the force-displacement curves and the equivalent damping ratio of each test was also assessed. In single bending, the SMA bar showed the stiffness hardening after the displacement of 32 mm. It is assumed that this phenomenon is due to the stress-induced-martensite hardening. The increasing loading speed did not influence on the stiffness of the single bending SMA bar. The stiffness of the double bending bar is about 5 times of that of the single bending. This study introduced a seismic application of SMA bending bars as seismic restrainers for bridges and showed its practicality. SMA bars in bending are used for seismic restrainers in a three-span-simply-supported bridge. They showed the effectiveness to reduce the responses of the bridge and the applicability for a seismic restrainer. The significance of this study is to provide basic knowledge of SMA bending and its seismic applications.

Wind-sand coupling movement induced by strong typhoon and its influences on aerodynamic force distribution of the wind turbine

  • The strong turbulence characteristic of typhoon not only will significantly change flow field characteristics surrounding the large-scale wind turbine and aerodynamic force distribution on surface, but also may cause morphological evolution of coast dune and thereby form sand storms. A 5MW horizontal-axis wind turbine in a wind power plant of southeastern coastal areas in China was chosen to investigate the distribution law of additional loads caused by wind-sand coupling movement of coast dune at landing of strong typhoons. Firstly, a mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mode was introduced in for high spatial resolution simulation of typhoon "Megi". Wind speed profile on the boundary layer of typhoon was gained through fitting based on nonlinear least squares and then it was integrated into the user-defined function (UDF) as an entry condition of small-scaled CFD numerical simulation. On this basis, a synchronous iterative modeling of wind field and sand particle combination was carried out by using a continuous phase and discrete phase. Influencing laws of typhoon and normal wind on moving characteristics of sand particles, equivalent pressure distribution mode of structural surface and characteristics of lift resistance coefficient were compared. Results demonstrated that: Compared with normal wind, mesoscale typhoon intensifies the 3D aerodynamic distribution mode on structural surface of wind turbine significantly. Different from wind loads, sand loads mainly impact on 30° ranges at two sides of the lower windward region on the tower. The ratio between sand loads and wind load reaches 3.937% and the maximum sand pressure coefficient is 0.09. The coupling impact effect of strong typhoon and large sand particles is more significant, in which the resistance coefficient of tower is increased by 9.80% to the maximum extent. The maximum resistance coefficient in typhoon field is 13.79% higher than that in the normal wind field.
