Modeling and Analysis of SEIG-STATCOM Systems Based on the Magnitude-Phase Dynamic Method

  • This paper proposes an analysis method based on the magnitude-phase dynamic theory for isolated power systems with static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). The stability margin of an isolated power system is greatly reduced when a load is connected, due to the disadvantageous features of the self-excited induction generators (SEIGs). To analyze the control process for system stability and to grasp the dynamic characteristics in different timescales, the relationships between the active/reactive components and the phase/magnitude of the STATCOM output voltage are derived in the natural reference frame based on the magnitude/phase dynamic theory. Then STATCOM equivalent mechanical models in both the voltage time scale and the current time scale are built. The proportional coefficients and the integral coefficients of the control process are converted into damping coefficients, inertia coefficients and stiffness coefficients so that analyzing its controls, dynamic response characteristics as well as impacts on the system operations are easier. The effectiveness of the proposed analysis method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

내부 구속 중공 CFT 기둥의 내진 성능 평가 (Evaluation of Seismic Performance for an Internally Confined Hollow CFT Column)

  • 새로운 형식의 기둥인 내부 구속 중공 콘크리트 충전 튜브 기둥(내부 구속 중공 CFT 기둥, ICH CFT column ; Internally Confined Hollow CFT Column)의 내진 성능 평가 실험을 수행하였다. 준정적 실험을 통하여 2가지 종류의 ICH CFT 기둥과 일반 중실 RC 기둥의 내진 성능을 비교 평가 하였다. 각각의 기둥 시험체에 대해 최대 하중과 변위의 관계를 측정하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 연성도, 소산에너지, 등가 감쇠비, 손상 지수가 계산되었다. 실험 결과 ICH CFT 기둥은 중실 RC 기둥에 비해 약 2배의 모멘트에 저항을 하였으며, 에너지의 흡수와 소산에서도 1.5배 정도의 성능을 보여주어, ICH CFT 기둥이 일반 중실 RC 기둥보다 더 뛰어난 성능을 가짐을 보여주었다.

재구성 점토의 반복전단강도 및 전단탄성계수의 재하 주파수 의존성 (Loading Frequency Dependencies of Cyclic Shear Strength and Elastic Shear Modulus of Reconstituted Clay)

  • In the present study, the loading frequency dependencies of cyclic shear strength and elastic shear modulus of reconstituted clay were examined by performing undrained cyclic triaxial tests and undrained cyclic triaxial tests to determine deformation properties. The result of undrained cyclic triaxial test of reconstituted and saturated clay shows that a faster frequency leads to higher stress amplitude ratio, but when the frequency becomes fast up to a certain point, the stress amplitude ratio will reach its maximum limit and the frequency dependence becomes insignificant. And also, the result of undrained cyclic triaxial deformation test shows a fact that a faster loading frequency leads to higher equivalent shear modules and smaller hysteresis damping ratio, and confirms the frequency dependence of cohesive soil. Meanwhile, the result of the creep test shows that continuing creep is created in the undrained cyclic triaxial test with slow loading frequency rate, and since loading rate becomes slower at the vicinity of the maximum and the minimum deviator stress due to sine wave loading, the vicinity of the maximum and the minimum deviator stress shall be more influenced by creep.

  • Electro-Mechanical Actuator installed on aircraft consists of a decelerator which magnifies the torque to rotate an axis connected with aircraft control surface, a control section which controls the motor assembly through receiving orders from cockpit and a motor assembly which rotates the decelerator. EMA controls aircraft attitued, position, landing, takeoff, etc. It is important part of a aircraft. Aircraft maneuvering make vibration of EMA. Vibration may cause the vibration fatigue. For that reason, it is necessary to analyze the system safety. In this paper, first EMA is modeled in finite element method and analyzed the response from input vibration. second EMA is tested and analyzed from modal experimental data. third EMA Fe model is updated and re analyzed. and EMA is verified safety with $3{\sigma}$ stress and S/N curves.

액체 추진 로켓 터보 펌프용 플로팅 링 실에 대한 해석 및 실험 결과의 비교 연구 (Comparison of Theoretical Analysis with Test Results of Floating Ring Seals for the LRE Turbo Pump)

  • The floating ring seal has an advantage to find the optimum position by itself, which is used in the turbo pump of a liquid rocket. The main purpose of seals is to reduce the leakage. Especially, seals of the turbo pump for the liquid rocket engine are operated under the serious conditions such as high pressure above 10 MPa, very low temperature about $-180^{\circ}C$ and high rotating speed above 25,000 rpm. So, rotordynamic stability is very important for the system stability. In this paper, the leakage and dynamic characteristics of floating ring seals were investigated by a experimental and analytical method. The theoretical results of the leakage performance for the floating ring seal showed much higher than that of experimental results. On the other hand, the results of stiffness and damping characteristics showed similarity each other. As the shaft speed was increasing, the whirl frequency ratio was increased in the experimental results.

Vibration isolation with smart fluid dampers: a benchmarking study

  • The non-linear behaviour of electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) dampers makes it difficult to design effective control strategies, and as a consequence a wide range of control systems have been proposed in the literature. These previous studies have not always compared the performance to equivalent passive systems, alternative control designs, or idealised active systems. As a result it is often impossible to compare the performance of different smart damper control strategies. This article provides some insight into the relative performance of two MR damper control strategies: on/off control and feedback linearisation. The performance of both strategies is benchmarked against ideal passive, semi-active and fully active damping. The study relies upon a previously developed model of an MR damper, which in this work is validated experimentally under closed-loop conditions with a broadband mechanical excitation. Two vibration isolation case studies are investigated: a single-degree-of-freedom mass-isolator, and a two-degree-of-freedom system that represents a vehicle suspension system. In both cases, a variety of broadband mechanical excitations are used and the results analysed in the frequency domain. It is shown that although on/off control is more straightforward to implement, its performance is worse than the feedback linearisation strategy, and can be extremely sensitive to the excitation conditions.

붕괴하중을 받는 건물에 설치된 마찰감쇠기의 등가감쇠비 (Equivalent damping ratio of a friction damper installed in a structure under collapse load)

  • 본 논문에서는 마찰감쇠기가 설치된 건물이 붕괴하중을 받을 때의 에너지소산능력을 고려하여 등가감쇠비를 유도하였다. 마찰감쇠기는 주로 지진과 같은 수평하중에 대한 에너지를 소산하기위해 설치된다. 마찰감쇠기를 대각 가새형으로 설치하면 수평하중에 대한 저항력뿐 만아니라 수직하중에 대한 저항성능도 발휘된다. 건물에 설치된 마찰감쇠기는 외력의 크기에 따라 정지와 운동의 상태를 반복하여 외부 입력에너지를 소산시키기 때문에 외력과 응답관계가 비선형이다. 건물은 고유의 점성감쇠를 가지므로 마찰감쇠기가 설치된 건물은 마찰과 점성감쇠를 동시에 고려해야하므로 해석적인 정해를 구하기가 어렵다. 에너지 평형을 이용하여 등가감쇠비를 구하고 운동방정식을 등가선형화하면 쉽게 저항 성능을 파악할 수 있다. 우선 건물에 영향을 미치는 것은 감쇠이므로 감쇠의 영향력을 마찰력비, ${\gamma}_c$로 나타내었다. 둘째, 정해를 마찰력비로 표현하여 유도하고 응답특성을 파악하였다. 셋째, 에너지 균형식을 통해 등가감쇠비를 산정하였다. 마지막으로 등가감쇠비를 검증하기 위하여 등가감쇠비를 이용하여 등가선형화한 응답과 실제 마찰감쇠기를 설치하여 비선형 수치해석한 결과와 비교, 검증하였다.

Optimal placement and tuning of multiple tuned mass dampers for suppressing multi-mode structural response

  • The optimal design of multiple tuned mass dampers (multiple TMD's) to suppress multi-mode structural response of beams and floor structures was investigated. A new method using a numerical optimizer, which can effectively handle a large number of design variables, was employed to search for both optimal placement and tuning of TMD's for these structures under wide-band loading. The first design problem considered was vibration control of a simple beam using 10 TMD's. The results confirmed that for structures with widelyspaced natural frequencies, multiple TMD's can be adequately designed by treating each structural vibration mode as an equivalent SDOF system. Next, the control of a beam structure with two closely-spaced natural frequencies was investigated. The results showed that the most effective multiple TMD's have their natural frequencies distributed over a range covering the two controlled structural frequencies and have low damping ratios. Moreover, a single TMD can also be made effective in controlling two modes with closely spaced frequencies by a newly identified control mechanism, but the effectiveness can be greatly impaired when the loading position changes. Finally, a realistic problem of a large floor structure with 5 closely spaced frequencies was presented. The acceleration responses at 5 positions on the floor excited by 3 wide-band forces were simultaneously suppressed using 10 TMD's. The obtained multiple TMD's were shown to be very effective and robust.

Inelastic displacement ratios for evaluation of stiffness degrading structures with soil structure interaction built on soft soil sites

  • In this study, inelastic displacement ratios are investigated for existing systems with known lateral strength considering soil structure interaction. For this purpose, SDOF systems for period range of 0.1-3.0 s with different hysteretic behaviors are considered for a number of 18 earthquake motions recorded on soft soil. The effect of stiffness degradation on inelastic displacement ratios is investigated. The Modified Clough model is used to represent structures that exhibit significant stiffness degradation when subjected to reverse cyclic loading and the elastoplastic model is used to represent non-degrading structures. Soil structure interaction analyses are conducted by means of equivalent fixed base model effective period, effective damping and effective ductility values differing from fixed-base case. For inelastic time history analyses, Newmark method for step by step time integration was adapted in an in-house computer program. A new equation is proposed for inelastic displacement ratio of system with SSI with elastoplastic or degrading behavior as a function of structural period ($\tilde{T}$), strength reduction factor (R) and period lengthening ratio ($\tilde{T}$/T). The proposed equation for $\tilde{C}_R$ which takes the soil-structure interaction into account should be useful in estimating the inelastic deformation of existing structures with known lateral strength.

Pulsating fluid induced dynamic stability of embedded viscoelastic piezoelectric separators using different cylindrical shell theories

  • This paper deals with nonlinear dynamic stability of embedded piezoelectric nano-composite separators conveying pulsating fluid. For presenting a realistic model, the material properties of structure are assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin-Voigt model. The separator is reinforced with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) which the equivalent material properties are obtained by mixture rule. The separator is surrounded by elastic medium modeled by nonlinear orthotropic visco Pasternak foundation. The separator is subjected to 3D electric and 2D magnetic fields. For mathematical modeling of structure, three theories of classical shell theory (CST), first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT) are applied. The differential quadrature method (DQM) in conjunction with Bolotin method is employed for calculating the dynamic instability region (DIR). The detailed parametric study is conducted, focusing on the combined effects of the external voltage, magnetic field, visco-Pasternak foundation, structural damping and volume percent of SWCNTs on the dynamic instability of structure. The numerical results are validated with other published works as well as comparing results obtained by three theories. Numerical results indicate that the magnetic and electric fields as well as SWCNTs as reinforcer are very important in dynamic instability analysis of structure.
