Three different types of additives, thiokol, epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) and epoxidized linseed oil (ELO), were dispersed in an epoxy matrix before being used in glass fiber (GF) composites, and their effects on the mechanical and dielectric properties of epoxy resin and glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites (GF/EP) were examined. The addition of each of 7 phr ENR, 9 phr ELO and 5 phr thiokol into the epoxy resin increased the fracture toughness significantly by 56.9, 43.1, and 80.0%, respectively, compared to the unmodified resin. The mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of the GF/EP at propagation was also improved by 26.9, 18.3 and 32.7% when each of 7 phr ENR, 9 phr ELO, and 5 phr thiokol, respectively, was dispersed in the epoxy matrix. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the additives reduced crack growth in the GF/EP, whereas their dielectric measurements showed that all these additives had no additional effect on the real permittivity and loss factor of the GF/EP.
The studies of particulate reinforced composites have been conducted for many years. The nanocomposites to be studied vigorously in recent years are one of them. We fabricated and studied multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT)/epoxy composites which may be useful as matrix for continuous fiber-reinforced composites. We investigated tensile properties of MWNT/epoxy composites as a function of MWNT concentration, which were prepared by the fabrication method established in this study. Tensile stiffness and strength increased 19% at 0.5 wt% and 12% at 0.2 wt%, respectively. We observed the reaggregation phenomenon of MWNTS during curing, which should be controlled to obtain higher tensile properties.

In this paper, various kinds of epoxy based nanocomposites were made and AC breakdown properties of nano-$TiO_2$ and micro-silica filler mixture of epoxy based composites were studied by sphere to sphere electrode. Moreover, nano- and micro-filler combinations were adopted as an approach toward practical application of nanocomposite insulating materials. AC breakdown test was performed at room temperature $(25^{\circ}C)$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$. The result shows breakdown strength about non-filled, nano-scale $TiO_2$, micro-scale silica and nano-$TiO_2$, micro-silica filled epoxy composites.

In this paper, the dielectric properties of epoxy composites used for transformers are studied. The dielectric permittivity and loss of specimen are measured at the frequency range of 30[Hz]∼1[MHz] about temperature 20[$^{\circ}C$],100[$^{\circ}C$] and 140[$^{\circ}C$] respectively from a series of experiments. When the filler is added, between epoxy and silica is formed interface. Therefore, observed higher values of dielectric permittivity and loss in filled epoxy are attributed to MWS polarization effect. Also, glass transition temperature was shifted to higher temperature and value of dielectric permittivity and loss were decreased due to 2nd curing. Deformation of interfacial state is improved and value of dielectric permittivity and loss were decreased at low frequency region by the surface treatment of fillers with silane coupling agents.

Nano particles (10nm $SiO_2$) were silane-treated in order to modify the surface characteristics in a epoxy nanocomposite. Then, micro particles ($3{\mu}m$ SiO2) were poured into the epoxy nanocomposite using various mixing process and epoxy/micro-and-nanomixed composites (EMNC) were prepared. The thermal (Tg) and mechanical (tensile and flexural strength) properties were measured by DSC, DMA and UTM and the data was estimated by Weibull plot.

The Low dielectric properties of epoxy/Annealing $SiO_2$ composites using Annealing new material of nanosized amorphous particles were investigated as function frequency, temperature and filler contents composition. The dielectric constant decrease with increasing frequency and also increase with increasing ambient temperature. The dielectric constant decrease with increase annealing filler contents for epoxy base. The result of x-ray diffraction could obtained single crystal of annealing $SiO_2$ from 500nm amorphous $SiO_2$ powder.
We looked at how the damping qualities of epoxy composites changed when different amounts of graphite nanoplatelets (GNP) were added, from 0% to 6% by weight. A mix of free and forced vibration tests helped us find the key GNP content that makes the damper ability better the most. We also created a Representative Volume Element (RVE) model to guess how the alloys would behave mechanically and checked these models against testing data. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was also used to guess how these compounds would react to motion. With proper hyperparameter tweaking, the ANN model showed good correlation (R2=0.98) with actual data, indicating its ability to predict complex material behavior. Combining these methods shows how GNPs impact epoxy composite mechanical properties and how machine learning might improve material design. We show how adding GNPs to epoxy composites may considerably reduce vibration. These materials may be used in industries that value vibration damping.
Epoxy composites with concentrations of 5-70 wt% of silica particles were prepared in order to improve mechanical property and poor thermal stability. The mechanical and thermal properties were investigated and compared to the corresponding properties of neat epoxy composite. Furthermore, the effects of silane compound treatment on silica particles were observed by the experimental results of the tensile strength, glass transition temperature, and thermal stability of epoxy composite. Tensile strength of epoxy composites was measured by universal testing machine (UTM) and after that, the structure and morphology analysis of epoxy nanocomposites were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The increased solid content of CA0030 particle improved the tensile strength of epoxy/ modified composites to give 30-50 MPa. The thermal expansion coefficients (CTE) of neat epoxy resin and epoxy/silica composites measured with a thermomechanical analyzer (TMA) showed that the incorporation of silica particles was helpful to reduce the CTE of neat epoxy resin.
Over the past decade, liquid crystalline epoxy (LCER) has attracted much attention as a promising matrix for the development of efficient heat dissipation materials. This study presents a comprehensive study including synthesis, preparation and chacterization of polymer/inorganic composites using typical 4,4-diglycidyloxybiphenyl (DP) epoxy among LECR. To confirm the thermal conductivity of composite materials, we have prepared composite samples composed of epoxy resin and single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) as a filler. In particular, DP composites exhibit higher thermal conductivity than commercial epoxy composites that use the same type of filler due to the highly ordered microstructure of the LCER. In addition, the thermal conductivity of the DP composite can be controlled by controlling the amount of filler. In particular, the DP composite containing a SWCNT content of 50 wt% has the highest thermal conductivity of 2.008 W/mK.
The epoxy composites are prepared with mixing temperature of epoxy/montmorillonite (MMT) melt master batch and the dielectric properties of the composites are also compared with intercalation of MMT. The exfoliation mainly occurrs iii the low content of MMT composites, while in the composites with high content of MMT the interspacing distance increases as the mixing temperature of epoxy/MMT master batch is increased. Class transition temperature of the composite which the MMT are effectively exfoliated is increased with the appropriate postcuring condition. Since the orientation polarization of dipoles in the epoxy molecules is restricted by the clay nanolayers exfoliated, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the composites are reduced. Furthermore, the dielectric properties could be improved by controling the mixing temperature and time of epoxy/MMT master batch as well as postcuring condition.
