  • Tourism is often considered as one of the main industries to promote development and modernization in small South Pacific islands countries. In Fiji, this was recognized in the 1960s, and resulted in large-scale resort based tourism development in coastal areas. While tourism has obvious advantages to the economy, a lot of problems such as exclusive foreign control of the main hotels and resorts, considerable overseas leakage of earnings, the limited participation by indigenous resource owners, and localized environmental damages to reefs and mangroves are emerging. For sustainable tourism development, it is needed to set growth objectives and targets for tourism in terms of benefits to Fiji, and to concentrate support on 'Rural Tourism' such as community-based tourism that have lower leakage and put more into local economies. Through case study in this paper, to develop rural tourism at the local level, several recommendations are as follows: 1) to introduce various rural tourism programs such as experiencing Fiji's traditional culture, participating in activities, picking fruits and harvesting agro-products, 2) to enhance aggressive promotion and marketing strategies, 3) to build the capacity of local communities for improving the quality of tourism services, and 4) to provide the infrastructure for tourism business such as road accessing, water supply and disaster prevention.

  • Many various kinds of tourism resources have been distributed along the Nakdong river basin. Previous researches have focused mainly on environmental studies, including water quality control, industrial use of water, biodiversity, etc, with little research done in the field of tourism studies. Central to this study, therefore, is the identification and analysis, from the perspective of cultural tourism, of the area's distribution and characteristics of cultural properties registered by the MOCT. Review of related literature reveals : 1) spatial range bound with the jurisdiction of the river basin like DREO and NRBEO ; 2) analytical subjects limited to cultural properties designated by the three different administrative units of government, city and province. Along with the DREO's predominance over the NRBEO in the total number of cultural properties, the result finds that two cities, Andong and Gyeongju of Gyeongbuk are assigned ownership of most of the cultural properties under the jurisdiction of DREO, while Gyeongnam that of most of the ones under the NRBEO. However, those findings suggest the simple number of cultural properties with no significant level of importance and rarity value reflected. Therefore, future studies need to develop quantified modelling keeping cultural variables in mind and create cultural indices of the competitiveness of the local governments.

  • Based on a survey of citizens and data analysis on the environmental status of the Miyun Reservoir watershed, China, the environmental awareness of citizens residing in the watershed and the impacting factors are discussed. The contingent valuation method was used to evaluate the willingness of villagers to pay (WTP) for abatement of the rural domestic pollution and to assess the intensity level of the villagers' desire for improving environmental conditions in the Miyun Reservoir watershed. It was found that rural watershed residents had a fundamental cognitive understanding of the pollution status and protection measures of the Miyun Reservoir. However, based on the survey, local residents had only a small interest in their participation to improve the environmental status of the reservoir, despite their general attitude to protect the reservoir being very positive. Gender and family income were closely associated with the overall attitudes of the population. Public media are the most preferable means for conveying knowledge of environmental protection to people living in the watershed. Increasing the educational level, along with income, are the best ways to enhance the desire of the villagers to improve the environmental quality and management.

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate how much customers' environmental consciousness and perception of environmental marketing in the fast food company affect their purchasing intention. Out of 420 questionnaires, 394 were analyzed by SPSS/WIN12.0 for the study. The results are as follows: the more environmental consciousness customers have, the more consumers understand environmental efforts of fast food companies. Second, consumers agree that fast food companies have a responsibility for environmental problems. Third, significant factors related to environmentally friendly marketing are found out. In other words, social psychological factors are more useful than demographic factors drawn from previous studies. Therefore, the empirical study would provide evidence for customers being interested in environmental marketing and valuable data for marketers who will approach environmentally friendly fast food market in the future.

  • In this study, the characteristics of rural tourism image perceived by urban residents were analyzed through text analysis of blog data. In order to examine the images related to rural tourism, blog data written with the keyword "Gochang-gun travel" was used. LDA topic analysis, one of the text mining techniques, was used for the analysis. In the tourism image of Gochang-gun, 9 topics were derived, and 112 major places appeared. This was divided into 3 main activities and 5 object spaces through the review of keywords and the original text of blog data. As a result of the analysis, the traditional main resources of the region, Seonun mountain, Seonun temple, and Gochang-eup fortress, formed topic. On the other hand, world heritage such as dolmen and Ungok wetland did not appear as topic. In particular, the farms operated by the private sector form individual topics, and the theme farm can be seen as an important resource for tourism in Gochang-gun. Also, through the distribution of place keywords, it was possible to understand the characteristics of travel by region and the usage behavior of visitors. In the case of Gochang-gun, there was a phenomenon in which visitors were biased by region. This seems to be the result of Gochang-gun seeking to vitalize local tourism focusing on natural, ecological, and scenic resources. It is necessary to establish a plan for balanced regional development and develop other types of tourism resources. This study is different in that it identified the types and characteristics of rural tourism images in the region perceived by visitors, and the status of tourism at the regional level.

  • This study analyzed the relationships among perceptions of uncertainty, environmental characteristics and strategy maker\`s actual decision such as resource allocation in different organizational subunits by focusing on the hotel general managers in two different countries Korea and Japan. The results show that managerial perceptions of the environment would vary across organizations within an industry but it was surprising to fad that managerial perceptions did not vary more substantially across countries. General managers in both countries perceived government regulator\`s actions to be the most uncertain environmental factor. Hotels in Japan were more geared toward external effectiveness than were hotels in Korea. The findings of this study also suggest that when the organization faces high environmental uncertainty, it places greater emphasis on extemally oriented functions such as market research and product development.

  • Recently, new concept and paradigm of 'Environmentally-Friendless' is taking a growing interest in environmental planning and design. This study is to develop the new approach of sustainable development, and to establish the indicators for environmentally-friendliness of "Tourism Farms" in rural areas. A questionnaire survey was conducted for deputy manager group and expert group. The environmentally-friendliness of tourism farms is composed of three categories, conservation of global environment(Low Impact), friendliness to surrounding nature(High Contact), and environmental health and amenities (Health '||'&'||' Amenity). Four indicators, such as saving of energy and water resource, reduction and reuse of garbage, natural purification of sewage disposal, and utilization of natural energy, were affecting the first category, i.e., conservation of global environment(Low Impact). And, friendliness to surrounding nature (High Contact) is affected by 3 indicators, such as contact to nature and diverse green areas, water intimate '||'&'||' contact areas, and natural ecology observation by biotope. Finally, the dimension of environmental health and amenity is affected by 3 indicators, such as nature affinity by farming experience, environmental-friendliness of soil '||'&'||' crops by organic farming, campaign and education programs of environmentally-friendliness. From the result of Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA) for 10 indicators, environmentally-friendliness was recommended as 'Concentrate Here'. And, the content validity of 10 indicators for 3 categories was examined by factor analysis. The result showed as the same as hypothetical model, which proved the validity of hypothetical model.

A questionnaire is self-administered to local residents using a systematic sampling method in Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam. The results indicate community satisfaction and government trust are core factors of support for tourism development. The study highlights that to attain community satisfaction and government trust, the policy makers should especially increase positive socio-cultural and environmental impacts and minimize negative economic impacts on the community simultaneously.
