  • Electroluminescent Display(ELD) will be the innovative ideas to replace existed electricity illumination systems that consider to under effectiveness and environmental pollution generators in the commercial caves because ELD has less heat and low electricity consumption by the new illumination materials. Characteristics of the ELD are as following: it is a proper matter for the small merchandise ads due to its thickness is only below 3oo micoron, electricity consumption of ELD is less (1/3) than LED, ELD that is a whole face illumination system is much brighter than LED that is a dot illumination system, ELD is longer life than others due to its less light generation systems, ELD is any problems to bend, and it is a best device to use a light board ads. ELD has advantages on conservation of cave biosystems and reduce pollution when ELD is installed in touring spots and emergency corridors of weak illuminated cave internal areas by less heating and low electricity consumption using the indirect illumination of the ELD. Therefore when the high technologic ELD is installed in the commercial caves in Korea, it will be innovating cave environmental systems, saving budgets, and increasing tours.

  • It is an attempt to suggest the standard valuation method of the environmental illumination for the bridges across the Han-river from an aesthetic point of view, deviating from the technical and traditional viewpoint. In Korea the current evaluation criterion to verify the value of bridge design has a partiality for the technical and structural safety rather than the sentient beauty on the whole. However, the recently cultural reform of Korean mass society with the elevation of the standard of living forces the engineering designers for bridges to focus not only on competing physical structures but also on enhancing the formative beauty including the illumination effects for night view. Additionally, the new policy, which transforms the environments around the Han-river into the major tourist attractions has been executing strongly by the city authorities to revitalize the symbolic, historic, and cultural identity of the capital city with the introduction of the high-quality environmental illumination for the bridges. As a result, It becomes necessary to establish the manual and standardization of the environmental illumination planning for the city in terms of the formative beauty, and this study is to suggest the valuation model method of the environmental illumination for the bridges as the initial step of the standardization. In the study, the valuation items of the standard questionnaire are selected by the documentary records and the consultation of various experts in architecture, design, fine art, urban planning and even administration to verify the essential elements of the aesthetic beauty with the local amenity and the environmental harmony for the chosen bridges across the Han-river.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and analyze the distribution of night illumination level at urban neighborhood parks and to show its characteristics. And this is used basic data ensuring safety and satisfying aesthetic and psychological desires of people who use urban neighborhood parks at night. To research and analyze the distribution of illumination level at urban neighborhood parks at night. To research and analyze the distribution of illumination level at urban neighborhood parks, I selected 8 urban neighborhood parks as the subject of research in this study, set the measuring standard of illumination level, and measured the illumination level by the measuring standard. The results of this study are as follows; 1. Currently, total average illumination level of urban neighborhood parks was lower than the minimum standard of illumination level I KS A 3011-1993. 2. Average illumination level of each place in urban neighborhood parks appeared variously from low level to high level. But this was lower than the minimum standard illumination level in KS A3011-1993 like total average illumination level. 3. The higher was total average illumination level of urban neighborhood parks, the more various was brightness of places. Although users' aesthetic and mental desire or behavioral aspect relate with safety cannot be found by only survey and analyses of illumination level, it is judged that first, illumination level of the standard of the lightness should be analyzed to find user's mental states and behaviors in external space at night. Therefore, it is considered that this study, which analyzed characteristics illumination level as basic data, has a significance. The study continuing for other illuminative environmental factors suitable in the place is required because the brightness of places may not be measured by only illumination level. And the proper illumination level in outdoor places should be showed in considering psychological and behavioral aspects of human as people may have their own sense of brightness.

  • Digital image recognition has been used for steel bridge surface assessment since late 1990s. However, the non-uniform illumination problems such as shades, shadows, and highlights are still challenges in image processing to date. Therefore, this paper develops a new approach to tackle the non-uniform illumination problem for rust image adjustment. The inhomogeneous illumination problem is divided into shades/shadows and highlights in this paper. The proposed BEMD-morphology approach (BMA) utilizes the bidimensional empirical mode decomposition to mitigate the shade/shadow effect, and the morphological processing to detect and replace the highlight area. Finally, the rust image processed with the BMA will be segmented by the K-Means algorithm, one of the most popular and effective methods, to show the effectiveness of illumination adjustment.

  • The black pollution that was able to include green pollution to appear for the intensity of light by an illumination institution is what after all I cannot ignore, and it may be said that chase thing damage by the isolation action that is white pollution done a long story in this outside a certain range by air quality change, dried present situation is really the environmental disruption by development and a damage phenomenon. If I am replaced in winker and I install a sensor light in the outlet by addition and use the electricity illumination that I installed for a tourist in the cave, it is expected that I can be available all the time that it is possible for electricity reduction more than the present and watches tourist passage plan private business Electric illumination in the cave for the environmental save in the cave because it is possible for more electricity reduction to be particularly off-season than on-season.

  • In 15 schools where were chosen each location (East, West, South, North, Central) of Seoul area, 9 items were measured such as thermo circumstance(temperature, relative humidity, air current, intensity of illumination) particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide being based on the school indoor environment standard. It was showed that indoor temperature, relative humidity and air movement were suitable in comparison with school indoor environment standard. Intensity of illumination was suitable in comparison with all schools, only exception 2 schools. In all investigated schools were adequate for carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, in which each indoor environment standard (10ppw, 0.25ppm/hr, 0.15ppm/hr), but in 5 schools the carbon dioxide were exceeded for standard limit 1,000ppm of Korea. Indoor concentration of dust(PM-10) induced from respiration dust the standard of Korea ($150{\mu}g/m^3$) at all schools.

  • Impact of artificial illumination on zooplankton dynamics has been studied in Tongyong marine ranch during the period from August 1998 to August 1999. Monthly sampling has been carried out to collect zooplankters from both natural waters and artificially illuminated waters at night. A total of 48 taxa of zooplankton occurred during the study. Copepods showed the prosperity in species number with 21 species. Every sample from illuminated waters consisted of move than 15 species except February while less than 15 species in samples from natural waters during the winter. Benthic amphipods occurred abundantly in illuminated waters. Zooplankton abundance was revealed to be increased in illuminated waters mainly due to the gathering of amphipods (4,500 indiv. $m^{-3})$ in September and October. Twenty times of zooplankton abundance was recorded in illuminated waters when compared with that in natural ones in September due to the gathering: of amphipods and ten times by the explosion of N. scintillans in August 1999. However, no distinct difference in the abundance was observed between two waters in the winter. Zooplankton gathering with artificial illumination seemed to be effective in amphipods, while copepods were hardly affected by the artificial illumination at night.
