This study introduces an environmental noise evaluation procedure and results for a wind turbine (W/T) system. Test and evaluation are required by the international standard IEC 61400-11 in the aspect of environmental effect. Test and evaluation are performed on U-50 WT model which is first developed by the domestic W/T manufacturer. W/T test model is under operation in Daekwanryung wind test site. An integrated monitoring system in the test site is utilized for the evaluation. With the noise signal, meteorological data and W/T operational data are monitored in real time by the integrated monitoring system using LabVIEW. From the measured noise data, acoustic power level are estimated and compared with those of other similar size WT under the wind speeds required by international standard.

This study proposes an integrated technique of Genetic Algorishim (GA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) for designing the water quality monitoring networks. To develop solution scheme of the integrated system, fitness functions are defined by the linear combination of five criteria which stand for the operation objectives of water quality monitoring stations. The criteria include representativeness of a river system, compliance with water quality standards, supervision of water use, surveillance of pollution sources and examination of water quality changes. The fitness level is obtained through calculations of the fitness functions and input data from GIS. To find the most appropriate parameters for the problems, the sensitivity analysis is performed for four parameters such as number of generations, population sizes, probability of crossover, and probability of mutation. Using the parameters resulted from the sensitivity analysis, the developed system proposed 110 water quality monitoring stations in the Nakdong River. This study demonstrates that the integrated technique of GA and GIS can be utilized as a decision supporting tool in optimized design for a water quality monitoring network.
As of September 2008,45 Automatic Water Quality Monitoring Systems (AWQMS) have been installed at different sites on the 4 rivers to detect early the presence of pollutants in water and to issue an alarm. We count the number of issuing alarms by AWQMS, however, we will find the alarm has hardly been issued. The reasons for the scarcity of alarm issue are extensively being examined. The National Institute of Environmental Research attributes wrong alarm criteria for each AWQMS station to one the reasons. In this study, a suggestion has been made to modify the current alarm criteria to correspond with characteristics of river water quality. The current system with only two criteria (low and high) should be replaced as four-criteria systems (low, medium, high, and severe) based on cases of other advanced countries and stream conditions of Korea. The highest value of data collected for 5 years was suggested as the alarm criteria for each parameter. Meanwhile the alarm criteria for VOCs, phenol and heavy metals were established as same as drinking water quality criteria.
Environmental monitoring analysis were analyzed for the period from 1988 to 2007 near King Sejong Station. Extreme environment structure behaviors(Marine Biology Lab.) were evaluated using monitoring sensors developed commercial sensors. Also when installing the sensors ambient environment of the King Sejong Station, to analyze the measured data and the comparative behavior of the structure were analyzed. As a environmental monitoring analysis result at King Sejong Station temperature, sensors were installed to withstand about $-25.6^{\circ}C$ or less and 49.5m/s. They were needed that the height of 225.0cm or more to be installed during the installation. For several monitoring sensors used in Antarctic, temperature, snow and strong winds were very sensitive to the atmospheric environment. Quite often a camouflage(animals and humans) would make it necessary to provide housing for monitoring sensors. Therefore, protection system developed for these sensors were to protect the sensors and data logger. Protection system the newly developed, is economical, easy to install even in harsh environments. Based on the measurement result of the one year, consider electrode applicability of the protection system, it was confirmed that the behavior of the structure is also predictable.

The Monitoring System developed in this study was designed to help manage the recreational forests by gathering data on visitors' profiles and their opinions about recreational use and related facilities, This data could identify for changing situations in forest recreation demand as well as providing information on planning the management and use of the forest areas in advance. The standardized questionnaire had contained visitor profiles, activities, distribution of use by area, distribution us by time, duration of the visit, expenditure of visitors and information on visitor satisfaction and motivation. Also, the questionnaire had included the evaluations visitors' perception of facilities in order to identify the importance and performance of the various facilities, such as recreational and educational facilities, accomodations, directional signs as well as infrastructure. The monitoring system was developed in the object-oriented programming (OOP) environment. Microsoft Visual Basic 6,0 for the program language, Microsoft Access, and Excel program were used to develop the system. The monitoring system was composed of data input, database, and data analysis system, Once data were put into data input system, it automatically transferred to database, and it eventually produced the results of statistical analysis with one step procedure. This study was integrated with facilities and visitor monitoring system to identify the visitor impact at the recreational forests. In addition, this monitoring system would provide necessary and useful background information for management on recreational use of natural resources in a practical manner.
Now global climate change is changing environmental factors, such as temperature and precipitation, which have a great effect on crop yields. Accordingly, crop yield forecast is becoming more important to global food supplies and sustainable development of rural areas. Worldwide, many countries, such as USA, China, Canada, and institutions, such as FAO, USDA, NASA, maintain the cooperative relationship to operate the crop monitoring system at both the national and global scale. This paper aims to investigate the current developments of crop monitoring systems in terms of information level, remotely-sensed data, and biophysical parameters, and to propose the direction of the advanced corp monitoring system based on remote sensing.
General citizens can be a valuable resource for various types of environmental monitoring when they are well-trained and managed. Successful use of volunteer monitors depends on understanding that citizens are partners sharing expanded roles as the guardians of their local environment. Citizen volunteer monitoring programs are developed for three reasons: 1) to supplement environmental data collected by professional staffs in governmental agencies and scientific institutions; 2) to educate the public about local environmental problems; 3) to build a constituency of citizen to practice sound environmental management at a local level and build public support for environmental protection. All three goals can be achieved with a well-organized program which provides useful and credible data. Initial step in planning a successful volunteer monitoring project is to clearly identify the use to be made of the data. Technical advice from the identified potential user groups should be convened early in the planning stage to refine the program objectives and determine if volunteers can provide the level of expertise required. Data users must have confidence in the representativeness, consistency, and accuracy of data collected by volunteers. Effective quality assurance and quality control(QA/QC) procedures are essential to ensure the utility of environmental monitoring data. Volunteers must be trained in advance to carry out specific environmental monitoring tasks. Another components of successful volunteer monitoring programs is to give the volunteers praise and feedback as well as to encourage experienced volunteers to impose increased responsibilities. The increase of volunteer monitoring programs in Korea will play a major role in developing a participatory system in which the people are "empowered" to make decisions and make a difference.
Particularly in research related to seawater intrusion the change of fluid electrical conductivity is one of major concerns, and effective monitoring can help to optimize a water pumping performance in coastal areas. Special considerations should be given to the mounting of sensors at proper depth during the monitoring design since the vertical distribution of fluid electrical conductivity is sensitive to the characteristics of seawater intrusion zone. This tells us the multi-channel electrical conductivity monitoring is of paramount consequence. It, however, is a rare event when this approach becomes routinely available in that commonly used commercial stand-alone type sensors are very expensive and inadequate for a long term monitoring of electrical conductivity or water level due to their restricted storage and difficulty of real-time control. For this reason, we have developed a real-time monitoring system that could meet these requirements. This system is user friendly, cost-effective, and easy to control measurement parameters - sampling interval, acquisition range, and others. And this devised system has been utilized for the electrical conductivity monitoring in boreholes, Yeonggwang-gun, Korea. Monitoring has been consecutively executed for 24 hours, and the responses of electrical conductivity at some channels have been regularly increased or decreased while pumping up water. It, with well logging data implemented before/after pumping water, verifies that electrical conductivity changes in the specified depths originate from fluid movements through sand layer or permeable fractured rock. Eventually, the multi-channel electrical conductivity monitoring system makes an effective key to secure groundwater resources in coastal areas.
In this paper, to promote the production of agricultural products, it is goal to design and implement the growth environmental management monitoring system. Based on the IT convergence technology, it consists of four components such as sensor nodes to sense environmental factors, sink nodes to communicate with sensors, gateway to link sinknodes to monitoring system, and monitoring software. With monitoring process for temperature and humidity, we can obtain the bast growth environment to be maintained deviation value 10% for temperature and humidity.
An indoor environmental monitoring system using IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network is proposed to monitor the amount of pollutant entering to the room from outside and also the amount of pollutant that is generated in indoor by the building materials itself or human activities. Small-size, low-power wireless sensor node and low power electrochemical sensor board is designed to measure the condition of indoor environment in buildings such as home, offices, commercial premises and schools. In this paper, two query models, the broadcasting query protocol and flooding query protocol, were designed and programmed as a query-based routing protocol in wireless sensor network for an environment monitoring system. The flooding query routing protocol in environment monitoring is very effective as a power saving routing protocol and reliable data transmission between sensor nodes.
