  • Atopic disease is caused by a complex combination of environmental factors and genetic factors, and studies on influence of exposure to various environmental factors on atopic diseases are continuously reported. However, the exact cause of atopic dermatitis is not yet known. Our study was conducted to analyse the association of SNPs with the development of atopic disease in a small cohort. Samples were collected from the Mothers' and Children's Environmental Health (MOCEH) study and 192 cord blood DNA samples were used to identify incidence of atopy due to influence of exposure to environmental factors. Genetic elements were analysed using a precision medicine research (PMR) array designed with various SNPs for personalized medicine. Case-control analysis of atopy disease revealed 253 significant variants (p<0.0001) and SNPs on five genes (CARD11, ZNF365, KIF3A, DMRTA1, and SFMBT1) were variants identified in previous atopic studies. These results are important to confirm the genetic mutation that may lead to the onset of foetal atopy due to maternal exposure to harmful environmental factors. Our results also suggest that a small-scale genome-wide association analysis is beneficial to confirm specific variants as direct factors in the development of atopy.

  • Promoting low carbon transportation adoption is important for energy saving. Some prior studies have discussed on environmental values affect low carbon transportation commuting is inconclusive. This study has constructed the environmental values, utility value, and social influence-based low-carbon transportation adoption model through the theory of the technology acceptance model and VBN model and the IS success model. Through the SEM model and stepwise regression analysis, we have found that environmental values positively affect utility value, and utility value also positively affects the behavior adoption of low carbon transportation. The utility value as mediating effect in the relationship between environmental values and low carbon transportation commuting behavior. Besides, we also have found that social influence positively impacts the behavior adoption of low carbon transportation. It better enhances the level of household residents' environmental values and utility values, and social influence for promoting the adoption of low carbon transportation. This present research provides theoretical guidance and suggestions for promoting the development of low-carbon transportation innovation.

  • As the occurrence of a crime is dependent on different factors, their correlations are beyond the ordinary cognitive range. Owing to this limitation, systems face difficulty in correlating various factors, thereby requiring the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) to overcome such limitations. Therefore, AI has become indispensable for crime prediction. Crimes can cause severe and irrevocable damage to a society. Recently, big data has been introduced for developing highly accurate models for crime prediction. Prediction of night crimes should be given significant consideration, because crimes primarily occur during nights, when the spatiotemporal characteristics become vulnerable to crimes. Many environmental factors that influence crime rate are applied for crime prediction, and their influence on crime rate may differ based on temporal characteristics and the nature of crime. This study aims to identify the environmental factors that influence sex and theft crimes occurring at night and proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict sex and theft crimes at night in random areas. The crime data of A district in Seoul for 12 years (2004-2015) was used, and environmental factors that influence sex and theft crimes were derived through multiple regression analysis. Two types of crime prediction models were developed: Type A using all environmental factors as input data; Type B with only the significant factors (obtained from regression analysis) as input data. The Type B model exhibited a greater accuracy than Type A, by 3.26 and 9.47 % higher for theft and sex crimes, respectively.

  • Objectives: The correlation between the size of a leak hole, the volume of the leakage, and the range of influence was investigated for a hydrochloric acid tank-lorry. Methods: For the case of a tank-lorry chemical accident, KORA (Korea Off-site Risk Assessment Supporting Tool) was used to predict the leak rate and the range of influence according to the size of the leak hole. The correlation was studied using R. Results: As a result of analyzing the leak rate change according to the leak hole size in a 35% hydrochloric acid tank-lorry, as the size of the leak hole increased from 1 to 100 mm, the leak rate increased from 0.008 to 83.94 kg/sec, following the power function. As a result of calculating the range of influence under conditions ranging from 1 to 100 mm in size and 10 to 60 minutes of leakage time, it was found that the range spanned from a minimum of 5.4 m to a maximum of 307.9 m. As a result of multiple regression analysis using R, the quadratic function model best explained the correlation between the size of the leak hole, the leak time, and the range of influence with an adjected coefficient of determination of 0.97 and a root mean square error of 22.33. Conclusion: If a correlation database for the size of a leak hole is accumulated for various substances and under various conditions, the amount of leakage and the range of influence can easily be calculated, facilitating field response activities.
