The wireless sensor network system has the advantage of confirming the behavior of the entire facility by improving the disadvantages of conventional monitoring system. As a result, it is widely proposed as safety diagnosis and measurement of structures, water management systems, and management systems for dam structures. However, there is a lack of research that can evaluate the condition of facilities such as safety at the same time as monitoring. In this study, it is proposed a wireless sensor network system which can evaluate the behavior characteristics of facilities and evaluate the safety status for improving the technical disadvantages on conventional monitoring system. The geotechnical risk factors for the reservoir dam facility were evaluated and the limit values for the risk factors causing the failure of the facility were set. In other words, the system was set up so that the risk factors can be measured and the limit status can be evaluated immediately for each factor. In this study, numerical analysis is carried out for seepage and slope stability analysis using the typical cross section for reservoir dams. The stress-porewater coupling finite difference numerical analysis is performed for establishing the limit displacement for reservoir dam structures. It is developed a system that can estimate the time to reach the critical value by regression analysis using the measured datas.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the long-term habitat morphological alteration resulting from a large dam and weirs in the Tamjin River. To achieve this, we carried out a hydrograph analysis and a substrate size distribution analysis. We also estimated the channel width, bar area and vegetation encroachment using aerial photographs taken before and after the construction of the dam and weirs. The result of the hydrological analysis showed that flooding downstream was greatly reduced with small peaks occurrence after the dam construction. Interestingly, normal hydrographs in the main channel appeared just after tributary conjunction. There was a similar pattern in the substrate size analysis. Despite coarsened substrate just downstream of the dam site, more sand appeared again after introduction of the tributary. However, there was an increase in the bar area downstream of the dam's channels with most bars covered with vegetation. The channel width increased at the upper area of weirs through impoundment, but decreased downstream because of vegetation encroachment. This study indicate that unregulated tributary plays an important role in restoring hydro-physical habitat conditions in mainstream channels below a large dam. However, numerous weirs could be a causal factor to accelerate habitat deterioration in the dam downstream channels.
The ground-structure interaction of the bridge foundation has been pointed out as a major factor influencing the behavior of the bridge during earthquakes. In this study, the effect of characteristics of ground and bridge foundation on the earthquake vulnerability is investigated. From the pseudo-static analysis, it is confirmed that non-linearity becomes lesser and horizontal load becomes greater when surcharge is considered. It is also found that as the ground worsens and the size of foundation decreases, horizontal load reduces. To derive reasonable structural model for bridge foundation, fragility curve is obtained considering four conditions (fixed condition, equivalent linear condition, non-linear without surchage condition, non-linear with surcharge condition) and compared. Seismic analysis is performed on single pier with Opensees. From the earthquake vulnerability analysis, it is found that shallow foundation can be assumed as fixed condition. In conservative approach, stiffness of spring can be obtained based on Korean highway bridge design code for pile foundation which can consider the ground condition.

The operational modal analysis (OMA) technique, which extracts the modal parameters of a structural system using ambient vibrations, has been actively developed as a field of structural health monitoring of cable-supported bridges. In this paper, the short and long-term modal parameters of a cable-stayed bridge were evaluated using the acceleration data obtained from the two ambient vibration tests (AVTs) and three years of continuous measurements. A total of 27 vertical modes and 1 lateral mode in the range 0.1 ~ 2.5 Hz were extracted from the high-resolution AVTs which were conducted in the 6th and 19th years after its completion. Existing OMA methods such as Peak-Picking (PP), Eigensystem Realization Algorithm with Data Correlation (ERADC), Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) and Time Domain Decomposition (TDD) were applied for modal parameters extraction, and it was confirmed that there was no significant difference between the applied methods. From the correlation analysis between long-term natural frequencies and environmental factors, it was confirmed that temperature change is the dominant factor influencing natural frequency fluctuations. It was revealed that the decreased natural frequencies of the bridge were not due to changes in structural performance and integrity, but to the environmental effects caused by the temperature difference between the two AVTs. In addition, when the TDD technique is applied, the accuracy of extracted mode shapes is improved by adding a proposed algorithm that normalizes the sequence so that the autocorrelations at zero lag equal 1.

Due to frequent occurrences of concentrated heavy rainfall caused by abnormal climate conditions in recent years, collapses of steep slopes have been occurring frequently due to surface erosion and increased pore water pressure. Various methods are being applied to prevent slope collapses, such as increasing the resistance to movement and reducing pore water pressure. Research on these methods has been consistently conducted as they provide an efficient response to slope collapses by satisfying both the conditions of resistance to movement and pore water pressure simultaneously. Therefore, in this study, we propose an upward slope reinforcement method by burying drainage materials with an upward slope inclination, instead of the conventional horizontal application. This approach aims to satisfy both slope reinforcement and drainage functions effectively, offering a comprehensive solution for slope stabilization. Furthermore, to determine the optimal burial angle that exhibits the most effective reinforcement and drainage effects of the proposed method, we investigated the reinforcement and drainage effects under conditions where the horizontal drainage materials were set at angles ranging from 0° to 60° in increments of 10° on a representative cross-section. Additionally, indoor model experiments were conducted under the conditions of 40°, which showed the most outstanding drainage effect, and 20°, which exhibited the highest safety factor, to validate the numerical analysis results. The results showed that the burial angle of 40° exhibits a relatively higher drainage effect as with the numerical analysis results, while the angle of 20° results in inadequate drainage and observed slope collapse.
Since the urbanization process has been taking place, negative outcomes such as environmental pollution and traffic congestion have produced as well. Reflecting the phenomenon, our study assumed that physical structure of urban form were implicit in relation to both economic performance and cost. It can be interpreted that as the urban space has been growing bigger, economic performances such as regional product output, economy of scale and the effect of agglomeration economies are increased. On the contrary, the negative effects such as environmental pollution and traffic congestion were incurred as economic loss and expenses. It means that even though economic performance can help increase regional product output, we should consider the loss on economic expenses which are paid for social problems such as environmental pollution and traffic congestion, which are caused by urbanization. Therefore, this study aims to statistically validate the relationship between traffic congestion as the most representative economy costs and physical characteristics of urban in a large city such as Seoul and to suggest its implications. As a result of model development for empirical analysis, GRDP(0.604), the population(0.582), employment GINI coefficients(0.296), population GINI coefficients(0.254) in order led to congestion cost. We can come to the conclusion that in case of scale factor such as the population, if the population tends to concentrate, urban becomes more crowded and that if GINI coefficients (the population, employment) which are variable on inequality according to region have the disparity with surrounding areas, congestion cost is caused a lot on account of movement related with employment. In addition, this phenomenon was caused if both the population and employment were geographically biased on one side.
Onsan Industrial Complex located in a nearby the Ulsan Petrochemical Complex and in the east of the coast. For this reason, air pollution substances emitted by Onsan Industrial Complex especially tend to have an effect on meteorological factors such as sea breeze. In this study, we assessed the frequency of sea breeze and mist using the meteorological data, and analyzed potential temperature and upper wind condition for assessment of atmospheric pollution concentration influenced by meteorological phenomena in a nearby the Onsan industrial complex. From an analysis results, when mist and sea breeze happened, each higher concentration phenomenon of $PM_{10}$ and $SO_2$ appeared each 57.2%, 71.8% and 46.6%, 57.7% respectively. Hence, we confirmed that meteorological phenomena such as mist and sea breeze had an effect on high concentration of air pollution substances in the research area. Analytical result of meteorological data in upper layer using potential temperature and wind condition, we confirmed that advection of air pollution substances emitted in Ulsan Petrochemical Complex by sea breeze have an effect on high concentration in Onsan Industrial Complex and nearby the residential area. In particular;concentration in Onsan Industrial Complex were higher than the average concentration by a factor of more than over 1.5 times when sea breeze by stable condition in atmospheric layer appeared.
The environmental behavior of $SO_2$ was investigated in terms of the factors affecting the temporal variabilities by analyzing the data sets obtained from the Yongsan district in Seoul from 2004 till 2013. To this end, the relationship between $SO_2$ and relevant parameters including particulate matters (such as $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{10}$, and TSP (total suspended particulates)) and gaseous components ($CH_4$, CO, THC (total hydrocarbon), NMHC (non-methane hydrocarbon), NO, $NO_2$, NOx, and $O_3$) was investigated in several aspects. Over a decade, the annual mean concentrations of $SO_2$ varied in the range of $4.36-5.86nmole\;mole^{-1}$ (min-max) which was about five times lower than the regulation guideline set for the air quality management in Korea. In fact, this pattern greatly contrasts with some other air pollutants of which concentrations exceeded their guideline values significantly. According to our analysis, $SO_2$ was strongly correlated to the temperature and other relevant parameters. The overall results of this study confirm that the administrative regulation of $SO_2$ levels has been made effectively relative to other airborne pollutants.
This study was carried out to propose the criteria for the prediction of landslide occurrence through analysis the influence of each factor by using the quantification theory. The results obtained from this study are summarized as follows. From a stepwise regression analysis between the landslide area($m^2$) and environmental factors, the factors strongly affecting the landslide sediment($m^2$) were the Parents rock (igneous), cross slope(complex), coniferous forests (forest type) and slope gradient ($21{\sim}30^{\circ}$). According to the range, it was shown in order of Cross slope (0.2922), Parents rock (0.2691), Forest type (0.2631) and Slope gradient (0.2312). The range of prediction score of landslide occurrence has been distributed between score 0 and score 1.0556, the median value was score 0.5278. The prediction for class I was over 0.7818, for class II was 0.5279 to 0.7917, for class III 0.2694 to 0.5278 and for class IV was below 0.2693. The prediction on landslide occurrence appeared relatively high accuracy rate as 72% for class I and II. Therefore, this score table for landslide will be very useful for judgement of dangerous slope.

Because of the continuous increase in the demand for and importance of marine space, marine exploration and survey activities are being actively conducted in Korea actively. Because the marine survey vessels used for these activities have special operational patterns depending on the purpose and probe vessels, research on maritime traffic risk is required. In this study, an attempt was made to determine the correlation of each factor with the effect of marine exploration and survey vessel operation on maritime traffic. The status of ocean exploration and survey vessels in operation in Korea was identified, as well as the special operational conditions of some of the ocean physical probes. Generally, the number of exploration and survey vessels involved per hour, total vessel length(including exploration equipment), operation, interval distance of exploration as per plan, and marine traffic conditions(traffic volume and speed) can be classified as operating factors. To compare the results of the environmental stress, a maritime traffic flow simulation based on the "ES" Model was performed with each of the identified operating factors as independent variables. The results of the analysis confirmed that the environmental stress significantly changed in the order of traffic volume, ship length and speed. In addition, it was confirmed that the environmental stress is reduced when the operation course is set at an angle with the nearby maritime traffic flow. Accordingly, it can help reduce the operator's burden if the survey vessel operator understands nearby maritime traffic conditions and reflects them in the operation method when setting the operation plan.
